Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Unveiled to the World in Epic Grand Opening Ceremony at Disneyland Park

The Walt Disney Company celebrated the momentous dedication of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge tonight in an epic ceremony at Disneyland Park.

ANAHEIM, California, May 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Walt Disney Company celebrated the momentous dedication of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge tonight in an epic ceremony at Disneyland Park. Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger unveiled the largest and most technologically advanced single-themed land expansion ever in a Disney park, which is set to open to the general public at Disneyland Park on May 31, and also at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida on Aug. 29.

The Walt Disney Company celebrated the momentous dedication of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge tonight in an epic ceremony at Disneyland Park.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is absolutely amazing and we are thrilled to finally share it with the world,” said Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “Now, for the first time, fans will be able to immerse themselves in the iconic stories that have captured audiences’ imaginations for decades and live their own Star Wars adventures in the most creative, innovative and ambitious land we’ve ever built.”

To dedicate Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Iger was joined in front of the Millennium Falcon by Star Wars icons including George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams. In a ceremony set to the soaring John Williams score composed especially for the land, global media and invited guests were the very first to see the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy roar to life.

“With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney is redefining the theme park experience and setting a new bar for experiential storytelling,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. “From each authentic detail to the land’s jaw-dropping scale, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge exceeds every expectation.”

When it opens to the public at Disneyland Resort on May 31 and at Walt Disney World Resort on Aug. 29, guests will be transported to the remote planet of Batuu*, full of unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes. Guests can become part of the story as they sample galactic food and beverages, explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

Phase two, opening later this year, will feature Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined, which will place guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality. In light of tremendous demand, Disney made the decision to open the land in phases to allow guests to sooner enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences that make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so spectacular.

Once guests step foot on Batuu, they will be part of the action as it unfolds around them, and their interactions with the Play Disney Parks mobile app** will deepen their engagement with the land – the first land within a Disney park designed to integrate with the app. They may choose to aid a smuggler, join the Resistance or pledge their loyalty to the First Order. This depth of storytelling is part of the total immersion that will distinguish the two, 14-acre lands from any other themed land in history.

The new lands build off decades of collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm Ltd., a global leader in film, television and digital entertainment production, including the Star Wars franchise. The work on Star Wars between these two creative powerhouses dates back to 1987, when the groundbreaking Star Tours attraction opened at Disneyland Park in California.

Reservations are required to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park between May 31 and June 23.*** Guests visiting during this time will need valid theme park admission and a reservation to enter the new land. After June 23, reservations will no longer be required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

* Admission into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be subject to capacity, and joining the virtual queue will not guarantee entrance to the land. Visit Disneyland.com for more information.

** Message, data and roaming rates may apply. Availability subject to handset limitations and device settings and features may vary by handset, service provider or otherwise. Coverage and app stores not available everywhere. If you’re under 18, get your parents’ permission first. Some features require separate theme park admission. Some experiences require in-app purchases.

***Reservations required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge from May 31 to June 23 at Disneyland Park in California. At this time, general reservations are no longer available, but reservations are still available for guests staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel between May 31 and June 23. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during this time will receive a designated reservation to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest; valid theme park admission required). Guests may book a stay at Disneyland.com/Hotels or call (714) 520-5060. If the hotel reservation is cancelled, the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation will be cancelled. After June 23, 2019, theme parks, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and its experiences are subject to capacity.

Homecoming Community Event highlights Paradise Medical Group’s commitment to serve Paradise and the greater Butte County community

PARADISE, California, May 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Paradise Medical Group (PMG), with financial and in-kind support from Blue Shield of California, has returned to Paradise to help restore, enhance and transform health care delivery in the region following California’s deadliest blaze last fall. The milestone also includes the availability of “PMG Connect,” a new virtual care platform that allows patients to see PMG providers via mobile phone, tablet or personal computer.

Left to right: PMG patient Bradford Ogden, Richard Turner, M.D., Susan Mallory, M.D., Jason Vance, M.D., James Logan, M.D., Richard Thorp, M.D., Rep. Doug LaMalfa, Blue Shield of California Vice President Robin Singh, M.D., Paradise Mayor Jody Jones, California Medical Association CEO Dustin Corcoran and Teladoc Health Vice President Chad Baugh cut the ribbon on May 24, 2019

Health care services for the town of more than 26,000 residents also was badly damaged by the Camp Fire, forcing many to drive long distances to see a doctor.

“Having Paradise Medical Group re-establish its presence back in Paradise is welcome news and we’re grateful that they are committed to serving and helping our community rebuild,” said Paradise Medical Group patient Bradford Ogden, 65. “As a patient I’m excited to try some of the new technologies such as PMG Connect, which will be a huge help especially for those of us who live outside Paradise.”

More than 100 dignitaries, community leaders and PMG staff gathered on Friday, May 24 at PMG’s Paradise clinic on Pentz Road, for a “Homecoming Community Event” to mark the occasion.

“The Camp Fire has exacted a heavy toll on our community in Northern California, but with each passing day, we grow one small step closer to a sense of normalcy,” said Rep. Doug LaMalfa, who represents Paradise in Congress. “Paradise Medical Group’s return will reintroduce experienced doctors into their facilities in Paradise while the introduction of new technology to allow displaced residents to see a physician remotely will be a game changer. It’s no secret that a long road to recovery still lies ahead, but I’m grateful to Blue Shield of California and PMG for their commitment to helping Butte County recover.”

PMG’s return is part of the community’s long road to recovery and renewal. The fire left more than 85 dead and over 18,000 buildings destroyed, including PMG’s main clinic building. Blue Shield has played a key role in supporting PMG since its physicians and staff were displaced after the wildfire. The work has included a collaboration with Teladoc Health to build PMG Connect, a much-needed service for PMG providers to care for their patients, many of whom have dispersed into neighboring communities, and helping reopen the Paradise clinic.

Blue Shield’s assistance was part of the nearly $2 million in support the nonprofit health plan provided to help restore health care delivery and other services in response to the wildfires throughout California last Fall.

“In the wake of the Camp Fire, we were engulfed in how to reconnect phones and medical records, answer phones and renew destroyed medical supplies and medications when we quickly realized that we had the possibility of going bankrupt as we continued to provide care for our community,” said Richard Thorp, M.D., President of Paradise Medical Group. “In an answer to prayer, Blue Shield of California with the encouragement of the California Medical Association extended gifts of financial and operational support that pulled PMG back from the brink of collapse.”

Thorp added: “Blue Shield has provided and continues to provide unwavering support which has allowed PMG to return to Paradise, provide care to our patients who have evacuated to distant communities via PMG Connect and given us the opportunity to reinvent the future of primary care in Paradise. PMG would not be in a position to face a new future without the financial and operational assistance of Blue Shield.”

When the Camp Fire raged across the tinder dry hills of Butte County last fall, doctors and staff at PMG were among the last to leave their town. One pediatrician sent his family to safety while he helped moms and their newborn babies evacuate a nearby hospital while another staff member risked his life to save patient records on disk drives, bundling them frantically and fleeing on his motorcycle just moments before the flames arrived.

“In the aftermath of such tragedy, Paradise Medical Group’s courage and commitment to the Paradise and the larger Butte County community are simply inspirational, and Blue Shield of California is honored to support them in a meaningful way,” said Jeff Bailet, M.D., Executive Vice President, Blue Shield of California. “At Blue Shield, we are passionate about providing people access to care that is worthy of our family friends, and our collaboration with Paradise Medical Group helps us make that a reality for residents in this region.”

After the fire, PMG, which serves about 10,000 area residents, relocated temporarily to rented space in the nearby city of Chico, where the practice’s doctors will continue to see their patients. The largest of their three original buildings in Paradise was destroyed in the fire and the remaining two buildings have limited clinic space. In order to help the medical group return to Paradise more quickly, Blue Shield is assisting in renovating the remaining facilities to maximize the clinic capacity.

“The reopening of this clinic is a testament to what is possible when community and health care leaders work together,” said David. H. Aizuss, President of the California Medical Association. “Thanks to the dedication and perseverance of the physicians and staff of PMG, and an unprecedented partnership with Blue Shield, we are not only creating a better future for the people of Paradise but reimagining what is possible for rural communities and health care practices across California.”

PMG Connect will serve all Paradise Medical Group patients, regardless of their health plan. Patients can now see PMG providers using their mobile phone, tablet or computer no matter where either is located, and receive diagnosis and treatment for an array of conditions.

Doctors will be able to treat medical issues such as upper respiratory infections and other breathing illnesses fire survivors experience, as well as many other everyday care needs. For Blue Shield of California members, the service will be available with no additional cost to the member.

Attorney Dan Newlin Presents Global Superstar Pitbull and World-Famous Artist Nacho for a FREE Concert, Honoring A National Hero, Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia.

ORLANDO, Florida, May 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Florida Attorney Dan Newlin’s free community concert starring Global Superstar Pitbull, Nacho, and DJ Vice is now only days away.  If you have not seen or heard about Attorney Dan Newlin’s free community concert on one of the thousands of TV ads, morning radio DJ shows talking about it for a month, or the many billboards throughout Central Florida, then you might be living under a shell. Attorney Dan Newlin has blasted the TV airwaves, radio airwaves and social media channels to let all Central Florida residents know they can come out and enjoy a great night of free entertainment, all in honor of Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia and his family.

Attorney Dan Newlin Presents Global Superstar Pitbull and World-Famous Artist Nacho for a FREE Concert, Honoring A National Hero, Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia.

Mr. Newlin stated recently, “Between concert tickets and parking costs, the cost of taking your girlfriend, wife, or family to a concert is simply not affordable to many families. I remember when I was a teenager I really wanted to see Lionel Richie in concert. My father, a steelworker, told me that it was just too expensive. Later that year, REO Speedwagon came to town for a local festival and played for free. It was intense, and it was free. I was first in line with my dad, and we had a great time and, today, it is a lasting memory.  I am really excited, knowing that so many families and fans of Global Superstar Pitbull, Nacho, and DJ Vice will be able to enjoy a fabulous night of live music for free. What better way to give back in honor of Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia.”

Adding an Additional Element of Community to the Concert

This year Attorney Dan Newlin is producing the concert in honor of Officer Kevin Valencia of the Orlando Police Department. Officer Valencia was born in Cali, Colombia but raised in Florida by his parents. He later went on to serve in the U.S Army National Guard and later joined the Orlando Police Department where he served as a patrol officer.  On June 10th, Officer Valencia was dispatched to an emergency call involving a domestic disturbance. While trying to make contact with the residents at the home, Officer Valencia was ambushed and shot in the face.  Officer Valencia sustained a serious brain injury as a result of this shooting and has undergone multiple surgeries and remains in a coma today.

Mr. Newlin said, “When this shooting first happened, we were asked to help with a small donation, of course, we helped. There was a lot of news coverage for months, but things slowly dropped off, and you did not hear much about Officer Valencia any longer. Then, one day a few months ago, I was reading the paper online, and there was a small article maybe a few sentences with the title: Officer Comes Home. The article was on page six of the paper and said that Officer Valencia was moved to a new medical facility near Orlando.” Attorney Newlin continued, “I thought ‘How can this be? How can this man – a hero – still in a coma, be a back-page news story? That is so wrong.’ That is when it hit me to reach out to Orange County Sheriff Mina, Orlando Police Chief Colon, and Mrs. Valencia to see if we could turn this back-page story into a front-page story again for life. When I met with Mrs. Valencia, I knew instantly we had to do something spectacular to help keep Officer Valencia’s story front and center forever. Awareness brings support and hope. I also knew that I had to work behind the scenes to help raise money, so Mrs. Valencia could have the additional monetary resources to best care for her husband.” Newlin said he did not want people attending the concert to give any money but only bring their love and support. According to Mr. Newlin, he and his law firm have personally knocked down doors raising money to help the Valencia family, which will be given to the Valencia family the night of the concert.  Attorney Dan Newlin said, “My goal was to do great for Mrs. Valencia and her family, and I am going to do just that, better then great, no one deserves it more!”

Finally, Newlin reminds all to arrive at the Central Florida Fairgrounds early on June 1st. “Bring the family, bring your friends, bring your neighbors, and enjoy what will be an amazing spectacular free night of Grammy-winning artists and live music. I’ll see all of you at the concert,” says Attorney Dan Newlin.

Disruptive Media Producer Adam Kidron Releases “Nuestro Himno,” the 34th Installment of The Bad Seed, his hit online satire of the Trump Presidency.

0

BRONX, New York, May 24, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Influential disruptive media producer and early-stage investor Adam Kidron, who co-wrote and produced the seminal 2006 release of “Nuestro Himno” (“Our Anthem”), a Spanish-language version of the United States national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner;” today released the 34th chapter of his hit online novel The Bad Seed, which parallels and satire’s President Trump’s presidency, which Kidron and the novel’s tens of thousands of fans consider to be illegitimate.

The novel, which features extraordinary neo-noir illustrations by Catalan artist Ivan Cuadros, has already reached more than five million people online who share its insights and images on social media. Kidron sees the novel as a new front in the fight against Trump, by setting the stage for a “revolution” of sorts – a new style of resistance primarily driven by art and storytelling – sure to get under President Trump’s skin.

In chapter 34 of The Bad Seed, Elia Degas, a bold but disillusioned Bronx lawyer, who previously learned that he is the disinherited half-brother of the President (and is determined to take him down and “save us from ourselves”) is threatened by a direct message from President that terrible things will happen if his girlfriend, Joy Alicia Lopez continues to campaign to become a congresswoman, representing the Bronx and Queens. Degas tells his audience that we must confront creeping fascism by changing our resistance and by being agile:

“A few hundred air-traffic controllers can bring the entire country to a halt by having an extended coffee break. A few sanctuary cities can break ICE. And a few enlightened states can protect the environment as who wants to manufacture a car that cannot be sold in California or New York. Today, our rebellion is the macro sum of hundreds of thousands of micro acts of resistance; like the Warriors, brown skinned Red Sox, and Eagles refusing to meet and greet the President at one of his Big Mac orgies; the cast of Hamilton calling out the Vice President in person at the end of the show; Stephanie Wilkinson, the owner of The Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, refusing to serve, the President’s misinformation director, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and asking her to leave. These small acts of resistance combined by our connectivity make us ungovernable”

Upon Kidron’s 2006 release of “Nuestro Himno”, the song was criticized by President George W. Bush, who said “I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English. And they ought to learn to sing the anthem in English.” With the re-release of “Nuestro Himno“, Kidron may once again provoke outrage – this time from President Trump himself – who will likely see the overall effort as more “fake news” and “presidential harassment.”

The Bad Seed is published weekly at BadSeedBook.com.

A new multimedia campaign promotes the use of life jackets among Latino families

WASHINGTON, May 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — For the third consecutive year, the Water Sports Foundation (WSF) of the United States launches in partnership with Hispanic Communications Network (HCN), a new edition of its successful multimedia educational campaign, to promote the use of life jackets among members of Latino families across the country.

With public service messages on radio and social networks, the campaign coincides with the completion of the National Week of Safe Navigation (NSBW), from May 24 to 31, which is part of an international effort focused on improving the safety of activities aquatic life through the use of a lifejacket at all times.

“The goal is to make the use of life jacket a habit, when doing aquatic activities. To emphasize that point, one of the visual messages shows Latino families wearing the life jacket at unique moments, such as a wedding or with the dentist. It’s a way of saying: always wear the life jacket …” said Jim Emmons, Non-Profit Outreach Grants Director of Water Sports Foundation (WSF)

Another of the activities of the NSBW includes going one day to work with life jackets, in order to highlight the importance of using the vest as other security elements that are already part of our daily life, such as the safety belt in cars.

Official statistics show that 8 out of 10 deaths during activities in the water have a tragic element in common: The victims did not wear a lifejacket. In the same way, many of the boats involved in accidents did carry the lifebuoy, but the occupants did not use it for different reasons. “Unfortunately, our Latino community has one of the highest percentages of people, especially children, who can not swim. It is proven that the use of vests saves lives. In the case of Latino families, that benefit is more important than among any other group,” said HCN President Alison Rodden.

But despite its positive impact on safety, many Latinos avoid using life jackets because they consider it uncomfortable, even when there is a new generation of less restrictive and more comfortable vests. The new campaign seeks to continue efforts to inspire a culture of maritime safety among the Spanish-speaking public, through Public Service Messages in the network of affiliated stations of HCN, in the programming of shows of the Hispanic Network, as well as messages multimedia on their sites on social networking platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Experts in maritime safety will be available to the media, in order to provide detailed information on the benefits of the use of vests, how to choose the appropriate vest based on size and weight, and the appropriate way to use it to take advantage of its benefits of protection and security. The campaign will be broadcast from May 24 to 31 at the national level. To arrange interviews, call Mercy Padilla 202.360.4112.
