Cal/OSHA Reminder to Employers: Post Annual Work-Related Injury and Illness Summaries Starting February 1

0

OAKLAND, California, Jan. 31, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Cal/OSHA is reminding employers in California of the requirement to post their 2018 annual summaries of work-related injuries and illnesses. The summaries must be posted each year from February 1 through April 30.

Instructions and form templates can be downloaded for free from Cal/OSHA’s Record Keeping Overview. The overview gives instructions on completing both the log (Form 300) and annual summary (Form 300A) of work-related injuries and illnesses. The annual summary must be placed in a visible and easily accessible area at each worksite. Current and former employees, as well as employee representatives, must be allowed to review the summary in its entirety.

The definitions and requirements for recordable work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses are outlined in the California Code of Regulations, Title 8, sections 14300 through 14300.48. Employers are required to complete and post Form 300A even if no workplace injuries occurred.

Posting the summary may reveal patterns or potential hazards that need to be addressed and helps ensure workers are aware of work-related injuries and illnesses that occurred the previous year. More information on posting requirements or how to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses is available on the DIR’s Employer Information webpage.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, or Cal/OSHA, is the division within the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) that helps protect California’s workers from health and safety hazards on the job in almost every workplace. Cal/OSHA’s Consultation Services Branch provides free and voluntary assistance to employers to improve their safety and health programs. Employers should call (800) 963-9424 for assistance from Cal/OSHA Consultation Services.

Employees with work-related questions or complaints may contact DIR’s Call Center in English or Spanish at 844-LABOR-DIR (844-522-6734).

Members of the press may contact Erika Monterroza or Frank Polizzi at (510) 286-1161, and are encouraged to subscribe to get email alerts on DIR’s press releases or other departmental updates.

The California Department of Industrial Relations, established in 1927, protects and improves the health, safety, and economic well-being of over 18 million wage earners, and helps their employers comply with state labor laws. DIR is housed within the Labor & Workforce Development Agency. The new book by Rosendo Garpar Ramos, “Cuba, Obsession and Sea” is a seductive work about the love of a good man for a cynical woman during difficult times

VINELAND, New Jersey, Jan. 31, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Rosendo Garpar Ramos, a writer, poet and sociologist with several postgraduate degrees in Russia and Cuba in psychology and sexology, and a columnist of the newspaper Panorama Latin News in Pennsylvania, entered the world of letters guided by writers and poets such as José Ramón Calatayud, Heberto Padilla, Nicolás Guillen and Miguel Barnet.  A lover of classical Russian literature, Rosendo’s writings have marked influences from the prose of Martí and Cubanism, the style of Dulce Maria Loynaz, linked to the romantic classical story of Pushkin and Lermontov. He brings us his new work “Cuba, Obsession and Sea,” where he shows us a love in the Cuba of the 1990s, between illusions, lies and even the consequences of the political regime that reigns in that country.

The author offers readers a reality of life, which highlights the naive nature of human beings, as well as their ability to do evil. It is a short novel, which delves into the lives of Cubans in the 1990s. In it, Cuba is the main plot and the thread that teaches us what the country was like in those times, including the censorship and oppression of the communist regime, and the obsession of a man in the government for a female dissident of the totalitarian system who entangles him in passion and lies.

The sea is the solution, the outcome of a fictitious plot, but at the same time real, since it has been the story of several, joined together in one person’s life.

The emotions and feelings that the reader can feel will be authentic, because they happened with the same cruelty and vileness in the life of those who in the end form the psychology and thought of Arturo, the protagonist.

Published by Page Publishing in New York City, the work of Rosendo Garpar Ramos, “Cuba, Obsession and Sea,” is a story of love, betrayal, disappointment and reconciliation with life. It is a wonderful story that takes the reader to the Cuba of the 90s.

For readers who wish to live a romantic experience full of adventure and intrigue, they can do so through this wonderful work, specifying the purchase of “Cuba, Obsession and Sea” in any bookstore, or the online stores of Apple iTunes, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes & Noble.

Toyota Production in North America Nearly 2 Million in 2018

Toyota built nearly 2 million vehicles in 2018, including the Camry, which is manufactured in Kentucky.

PLANO, Texas, Jan. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In 2018, Toyota built 1,935,230 vehicles at its North American vehicle assembly plants. Since 1986, Toyota’s total vehicle production in North America has reached more than 38 million.

Toyota built nearly 2 million vehicles in 2018, including the Camry, which is manufactured in Kentucky.

Toyota’s philosophy is to build where we sell and buy where we build. Positive economic factors such as low fuel prices, continued stability in the overall economy and strong customer demand for trucks and SUVs were all key drivers for 2018 production.

“Every part and every vehicle that rolls off the line reflects our commitment to safety, quality, value and, above all, our passion for exceeding customer expectations,” said Chris Reynolds, chief administrative officer, Manufacturing and Corporate Resources, Toyota Motor North America. “Our ongoing success is due to the hard work and dedication of team members at our 14 manufacturing plants in North America.”

Toyota’s 15th manufacturing plant, a joint venture with Mazda, is scheduled to open in Huntsville, Alabama, in 2021.

2018 Milestones

In 2018, five of the company’s 10 U.S. manufacturing plants continued to roll out a $373.8 million hybrid powertrain investment announced in 2017. The investment also included the implementation of the company’s Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama, plant. Other aspects of the investment include:

  • Production of hybrid transaxles at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia
  • Expansion of 2.5-liter engine capacity at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky
  • Increased production of 2.5-liter engine blocks at Bodine’s Troy, Missouri, plant
  • Production of hybrid transaxle cases and housing, 2.5-liter engine blocks at Bodine’s Jackson, Tennessee, facility

Continuing investments also were under way at: Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, which is implementing a $600 million TNGA investment to increase production of the Highlander; and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, where $1.33 billion is earmarked for TNGA upgrades and an all-new paint shop.

Other achievements:

  • Bodine’s plant in Jackson, Tennessee, celebrated its 15th anniversary in September.
  • Toyota Motor Manufacturing, San Antonio, celebrated its 15th anniversary in October.
  • Ground breaking on Toyota’s $1.6 billion joint venture plant with Mazda in Alabama. The plant will have a capacity of 300,000 and employ 4,000. (Toyota’s investment is $800,000 with plans to build 150,000 Corolla.)
  • JD Power Plant Quality Awards: Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Cambridge North, Ontario, Canada (Corolla line) received the “Gold” JD Power Plant Award for Initial Quality, along with Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (Lexus ES line), representing TMMK’s 14th JD Power Plant Quality Award. Additionally, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Cambridge South, Ontario, Canada, (Lexus RX line) received a “Bronze” JD Power Plant Award as well as Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, for its Highlander and Sequoia line.

Toyota produces 13 models in North America including: Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Lexus RX 350, Lexus ES 350, Yaris and Yaris iA. Toyota directly employs more than 47,000 people.

CVS Health Expanding Free Wellness Screenings Statewide in California

CVS Health (PRNewsFoto/CVS Health) (PRNewsFoto/CVS Health)

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — As part of its commitment to building healthier communities across the country, CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) today announced it is expanding its free health and wellness screening campaign statewide in California throughout 2019, including in Fresno, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego and San Francisco.

CVS Health (PRNewsFoto/CVS Health) (PRNewsFoto/CVS Health)

Project Health, which provides access to care in multicultural communities with a large number of uninsured or underinsured Americans, will take place at select CVS Pharmacy locations in the greater Los Angeles and Fresno areas beginning Thursday, January 31.

“Better health starts at the community level, and Project Health delivers affordable and convenient access to free services that help identify health concerns and risk factors for our neighbors who may not have otherwise sought preventative care,” said Troyen A. Brennan, M.D., M.P.H., Chief Medical Officer, CVS Health. “Chronic conditions, which can often be life-threatening, can be treated very effectively when identified early at screenings such as Project Health, and can help to improve a patient’s overall health and well-being.”

Project Health offers an array of free comprehensive health assessment screenings, including blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), glucose and total cholesterol screenings, which can help detect risk for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

The expansion of Project Health will also do more to screen for social determinants of health that affect personal health and communities. About 60 percent of life expectancy is driven by behavioral, social and environmental factors – including family, education, housing, and access to fresh food. Project Health events have a proven track record of improving patient engagement and ultimately, healthier outcomes.

Since it was founded in 2006, Project Health has delivered more than $127 million in free health care services to nearly 1.7 million Americans. More than 87 percent of patients who attend Project Health events report following-up with their primary care physician and were significantly more likely to proactively discuss their blood pressure, BMI and blood sugar levels, according to the company’s own metrics. Additionally, 95 percent of participants said they would recommend Project Health to a family member or friend.

A total of 256 events will take place throughout 2019, including year-round in Los Angeles, and will begin in San Francisco in March, Sacramento in May and San Diego in July. Project Health events, which will be held on Thursday – Sunday in rotating stores across each city, are open to everyone and do not require an appointment.  For a full calendar of event, please visit cvs.com/projecthealth.

“We are proud to offer Project Health in more CVS Pharmacy locations across California this year,” said Hank Casillas, Divisional Vice President, CVS Health. “The free health screenings are a simple and local way for people to access much-needed health services, and are just one more way we are delivering on our company’s purpose of helping people on their path to better health.”

Once screened, patients have access to on-site consultations with bilingual nurse practitioners or physician assistants who will analyze results and refer patients who require additional medical care and follow up to no-cost or low-cost medical facilities nearby or to their primary care physician.

Acura Marks 15th Anniversary of Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™

0
Acura is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its industry-leading Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) technology with a new video that illustrates SH-AWD®’s performance prowess and unique history.

TORRANCE, California, Jan. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Acura is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its industry-leading Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) technology with a new video that illustrates SH-AWD®’s performance prowess and unique history. Acura’s groundbreaking SH-AWD® technology has long set the bar for performance-enhancing torque vectoring AWD and is now offered on five of six Acura models in either mechanical (SH-AWD) or electric (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD) form. Additionally, Acura will surpass the one-million mark in global sales of SH-AWD®-equipped vehicles later this year.

In 2004, the first generation of Acura SH-AWD debuted on the 2005 RL sedan as the world’s first torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system. The technology, which dynamically distributes engine torque for enhanced handling and cornering performance, has been continuously advanced through multiple generations of development and deployed on Acura’s most popular models. The newest and most powerful generation of mechanical Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) debuted on the 2019 RDX in June 2018, boasting 40 percent more torque capacity at the rear axle, quicker front-to-rear torque transfer and 30 percent quicker transfer of torque between the left and right rear wheels.

Acura SH-AWD was expanded into the electrified realm with the launch of Sport Hybrid SH-AWD in the 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid. This was followed by the second generation NSX, the only electrified supercar on sale today, and 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid. Sport Hybrid SH-AWD utilizes instantly available electric motor torque to elevate dynamic performance and efficiency. The Acura MDX and RLX apply a rear-mounted Twin Motor Unit (TMU) and front-mounted gas-electric hybrid engine, while the Acura NSX features a unique mid-engine sports car configuration with a front-mounted TMU. Despite configuration differences, all three Sport Hybrid models apply the same technology and utilize many of the same components across supercar, SUV and sedan.

Acura SH-AWD: Through the Years

1st Generation SH-AWD

Applied on:

About:

RL (2005-2012)

The world’s first all-wheel drive platform that actively and continually distributes torque not only to enhance traction, but also to elevate cornering performance. By overdriving the rear wheels SH-AWD can provide an inward yaw moment while accelerating into and through corners.

2nd Generation SH-AWD

MDX (2007-2015)
RDX (2007-2012)

TL (2009-2014)

ZDX (2010-2013)

SH-AWD is enhanced with Hill Logic that automatically adjusts the front/rear torque split based on the grade of the underlying surface as well the integration of Vehicle Stability Assit (VSA) and, in 2009, Traction Control Systems (TCS). The rear differential is constantly overdriven by 1.7 percent.

3rd Generation SH-AWD

MDX (2016-Present)

TLX (2015-Present)

The 3rd generation system utilizes a 25 percent lighter rear differential with reduced friction and increased yaw effect. The rear differential is constantly overdriven by 2.7 percent, providing a greater torque-vectoring effect across a broader spectrum of driving conditions to further enhance cornering capability.

4th Generation SH-AWD

RDX (2019-Present)

The newest version of Acura’s mechanical SH-AWD is more compact than before while offering 30 percent faster response and a 40 percent increase in maximum torque capacity.

Sport Hybrid SH-AWD

RLX (2014-Present)

NSX (2017-Present)

MDX (2017-Present)

The first and still only electric torque-vectoring system in the world to enhance every element of dynamic performance – acceleration, braking and cornering – able to apply both positive and negative electric motor torque with instantaneous response on- and off-throttle.

For the Love of Pizza: Domino’s to Offer Rewards Points for Any Pizza – Even Competitors’

0
In celebration of our love for all pizza, Domino’s has launched Points for Pies - a program where Piece of the Pie Rewards members can receive loyalty points for any pizza. Yes, that is right - ANY pizza - even national competitors’.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, Jan. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Domino’s Pizza (NYSE: DPZ), the largest pizza company in the world based on global retail sales, knows for a fact that people love pizza. They love pizza from Domino’s and pizza they make at home, pizza from competitors and pizza on bagels. Even frozen pizza. And now, Domino’s is here to celebrate all that pizza love.

In celebration of our love for all pizza, Domino’s has launched Points for Pies – a program where Piece of the Pie Rewards members can receive loyalty points for any pizza. Yes, that is right – ANY pizza – even national competitors’.

Beginning on Saturday, Feb. 2, just ahead of one of the biggest pizza days of the year, Domino’s will begin awarding rewards points for ALL pizza that customers may eat through its new Points for Pies program. The process is simple: Customers download the latest Domino’s app, sign up for the Piece of the Pie Rewards® loyalty program (if not already a member), use the newly-embedded pizza identification feature to scan their pizza and voila! Customers can then earn 10 points. After a customer earns 60 points, they can redeem them for a free medium two-topping Domino’s pizza! All the details can be found at pointsforpies.com.

“Instead of advertising during Sunday’s game, we decided to invest in a breakthrough program that rewards everyone who loves pizza as much as we do,” said Art D’Elia, Domino’s senior vice president – chief brand officer. “We know everyone is asking themselves, ‘Did Domino’s just say they will award points for eating ANY pizza? Even from a competitor?’ You read that right; oh yes we did!”

Domino’s typically sells nearly 2 million pizzas and 4 million chicken wings on the biggest football day of the year – about 40 percent more pizzas than on a normal Sunday. Stores have prepared for weeks so that they’re ready to serve customers during the busiest hours – right before kickoff through the halftime show – some of the most intense pizza-ordering hours of the year. Considering Domino’s alone sold enough pizza to cover more than 5,000 football fields last year, we know there are a lot of pizza lovers out there who will be eligible to claim rewards points!

New Technology

Technology is an important element of Domino’s Points for Pies program. Domino’s internal teams developed a pizza identifier that will scan each pizza or slice and will then use artificial intelligence-driven software to identify the image as pizza, so that points can be awarded. This technology will recognize all pizza – not just Domino’s – for rewards. Sorry – it won’t give points for hamburgers, turkey sandwiches or any nonpizza item.

“This is the first time Domino’s is using AI technology like this,” said Dennis Maloney, Domino’s chief digital officer. “It will be running the pizza identification process and is already smart enough to identify all pizza, even if it is a homemade English muffin pizza, a pizza with a hotdog stuffed crust, or a high-end artisan pizza. It can even identify if it’s a dog’s squeaky pizza toy.”

New Ad Airing This Weekend

Domino’s CEO, Ritch Allison, will appear in TV commercials for the program, which begin airing on Feb. 2. Not only is it the first time that Allison has been in a Domino’s ad, it’s also the first time a Domino’s ad has been shot in a restaurant other than Domino’s.

“We knew that filming this commercial in a pizzeria that was clearly not Domino’s would really demonstrate our commitment to awarding points for all pizza,” said Kate Trumbull, Domino’s vice president of advertising. “We chose a place that was special to our CEO when he lived in AtlantaAntico Pizza, an acclaimed family-owned favorite that puts just as much love into their pizza as we do.”

The new ad can be viewed at youtube.com/dominos.

Points for Pies Program Details

Domino’s will award Piece of the Pie Rewards members with Points for Pies points when they use the latest version of Domino’s mobile app to scan a “pizza or an eligible image of a pizza” from Feb. 2 – April 28, 2019.  Customers can use the menu on the left-hand side of the of the app to navigate to the Points for Pies section.

Domino’s has committed to giving pizza lovers at least 100 million points toward free pies during the program’s 12-week duration. Members can earn 10 points through scanning one pizza per week and can earn up to a maximum of 60 points through Points for Pies. Traditional rewards points, earned through pizza purchases at Domino’s, can be combined with Points for Pies credits to earn a free Domino’s pizza.

Every day more Points for Pies credits will become available. Point availability may run out throughout the day. This doesn’t mean they’re gone forever, though. Customers can check back as more points become available. The mobile app will indicate when Points for Pies are unavailable and encourage participants to return later to claim points. Points earned through Points for Pies will expire after six months. Further details can be found at pointsforpies.com.

MANASSAS, Virginia, Jan. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Herlin Edelmin Zambrano Bonilla, born in Tegucigalpa in 1978, is a teacher of primary education, a lawyer, a technician in business administration and a writer by vocation. In 2014 he published “The lost treasure and other stories”, in 2016 saw the light novel “Who conquered?”, And in 2017 he published “I do believe” a Christian novel; now, as the consolidated author that he is, he brings us his new book “The Cachazoso and Other Stories”, a compendium of stories that reflect the simplicity and humility of the human spirit, as well as the greed and lies that surround the world in any part of the planet.

The author provides us with a world of human warmth, humility in the spirit and constant learning: “Why are the natives of Talanga called cachazosos? Discover it by reading the first story, where Henry takes us to know his town, its culture and traditions. In the remaining stories you will experience various feelings and emotions such as love, indifference, joys, sorrows, wonder, ingratitude, and even disbelief. You will know daily problems that many Honduran homes face daily. Where the technology boom pays in education and progress. However, in other cases its misuse opens the door for acts to occur against morals and good manners.

Everyone deserves respect, alive or dead. Certain relatives have gone so far as to dispute the property of the owner without the death being consummated or without waiting for the testament. The trajectory and sacrifice of the deceased is no longer respected, but the patrimony left is valued. The most astute stays with most. Finally, there are people who with their actions in life leave us a legacy of humility worthy of imitation. Being like a ladder that helps the fallen in moments of anguish. Beings endowed with strength and words to lift the spirits. An applause for those warriors, who are loved as earthly angels. “

Published by Page Publishing, based in New York City, the work of Herlin Edelmin Zambrano Bonilla, “The Cachazoso and Other Stories”, is a compilation of stories directed to children and adults, which includes several narrations happened in lands Hondurans and one on American soil.
