HOLLYWOOD, California, Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — This year, Telemundo’s Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAs) will celebrate the contributions of Latinas in music. The three-hour special will present a series of vignettes that will feature singers who have paved the way for new generations. Through key performances of the evening, the show will also focus on those artists who are reaching new heights and creating an impact in today’s music world not just by themselves but through innovative collaborations. In addition, in an unprecedented move, the entire show will be hosted by a formidable group of women, as Aracely Arambula, Becky G, Gloria Trevi, Leslie Grace and Roselyn Sanchez take center stage as the official emcees of the coveted awards show that will broadcast live on Thursday October 25, 2018 at 8pm/7c, preceded by the one-hour carpet pre-show “La Alfombra de Latin AMAs” at 7pm/6c. The show will also air simultaneously on Spanish-language entertainment cable network, Universo and in 20 countries throughout the Americas via Telemundo Internacional. Tickets to the awards show are on sale via Ticketmaster and the Dolby Theatre box office.

As part of this celebration, the hosts will also form part of a panel about the contributions of Latinas in music, which will take place October 23 at the Los Angeles Film School and will be moderated by Leila Cobo, Executive Director, Latin Content and Programming for Billboard. This movement seeks to inspire today’s female artists, so that they can continue to be true agents of change in the industry, as well as those students that are entering the field and want their voice to be heard and their own stories told.

Internationally-acclaimed Mexican star Aracely Arámbula has an artistic career that spans over 18 years as an actress, host and singer. She has starred in dozens of highly-rated novelas in Mexico and around the world, such as “Acapulco, Cuerpo y Alma” “Cañaveral de Pasiones” and “El Alma no Tiene Color.” She garnered her first leading role in “Pueblo Chico Infierno Grande,” playing the young Veronica Castro. This was followed by an antagonist role on “Rencor Apasionado” and months later the successful teen telenovela “Soñadoras,” which gave way to her leading role on “Abrázame muy fuerte” that consolidated her as an actress. “Las vias del amor” reaffirmed her success and her launch as a singer since she interpreted the theme song. Arambula launched her first album “Solo Tuya” in 2002, ranking on the Billboard Latin Music Albums chart. She joined Telemundo in 2013 with “La Patrona”, which became the highest rated 9pm series in Telemundo history. She then starred in “Los Miserables” in 2014 and “La Doña” in 2016, and she has interpreted the theme songs for each one. In 2018 she hosted “MasterChef Latino,” which garnered worldwide success.

At twenty-one years old, singer, songwriter and actress Becky G has a long list of successes in her multifaceted career, including two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Latin Airplay Charts (“Mayores” and “Sin Pijama”), starring roles in “Power Rangers” and “A.X.L.”, and guest-starring in Fox TV’s Emmy-winning “Empire” series. Becky G has toured alongside Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, J Balvin, Fifth Harmony and Jason Derulo and has recorded collaborations with Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny, Yandel, and CNCO, among others. The Mexican-American recording artist is working on two upcoming albums, one in Spanish and the other in English. Becky was recently honored by her home city of Inglewood, California for her contributions to the Hispanic community. Recognized as one of Rolling Stone’s, “18 Teens Shaking Up Pop Culture” and one of Billboard’s “21 Under 21,” Becky’s singing, acting, writing and production talents make her a major force to be reckoned with.

Mexican singer and composer Gloria Trevi is one of the most renowned names in Latin entertainment. Known for her unique and intense voice, as well as passionate lyrics, Trevi has released 13 albums and composed over 500 songs. Gloria Trevi has had 12 songs on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Four of Trevi’s albums went No.1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, Gloria in 2011, El Amor in 2015, Immortal in 2016 and Versus in 2017. In 2017, BMI recognized her with “The President’s Award” celebrating her career as a composer. At the heels of her record-breaking “Versus World Tour”, on October 18th, Gloria Trevi will be inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame at the 2018 La Musa Awards to be held at the James L. Knight Center in Miami.

Since her professional debut at 16, multi-talented singer and songwriter Leslie Grace has made a significant impact in the music industry, becoming the youngest female Latin artist to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart in 2012 for her self-titled album’s lead track “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.” This year, gearing up for the release of her second full-length album, Leslie released her new single, “Duro y Suave” featuring Noriel, which received two Platinum Record Certifications in Spain and the U.S., and its video boasted more than 100 million views. Leslie received her first RIAA Platinum Certification for her collaboration with Becky G, “Diganle,” which exceeded 110 million views on YouTube. She is the first Latin artist to collaborate with a KPop band with the single, “Lo Siento,” with Super Junior, and she has also joined forces with Becky G once again, this time recruiting Latin boy band CNCO to give fans the remix of the hit “Diganle,” which became an instant favorite and grossed over 70 million views in YouTube in its first month.

Renowned Puerto Rican actress, singer and producer Roselyn Sanchez made her movie debut in 1992 with “Captain Ron,” filmed in Puerto Rico, and starring Martin Short and Kurt Russell. Her break on TV came the same year as one of the leading dancers in variety show “Qué Vacilón.”  Her extensive Hollywood career includes acting roles in blockbusters “Rush Hour 2,” “Boat Trip,” “Basic,” “Chasing Papi,” “The Game Plan,” and “Act of Valor,” among many others. On TV she personified FBI agent Elena Delgado in “Without a Trace” in 2005. Her other TV roles include “As the World Turns,” “Kojak,” “Dragnet,” and a starring role as Carmen Luna on all four seasons of Lifetime comedy-drama series “Devious Maids.” In music, Sanchez earned a Latin Grammy nomination for “Amor Amor” in 2003, the first single of her first album Borinqueña. Most recently she was seen in a starring role in indie thriller “Traffik,” and will soon star as Gigi Cardenas in the upcoming ABC drama “Grand Hotel.”

The Latin AMAs features performances by artists that are relevant to Latinos, regardless of language, including Alvaro Soler, Anitta, Banda MS de Sergio Lizarraga, Becky G, Christian Nodal, CNCO, Daddy Yankee, Flo Rida, Farruko, Gloria Trevi, Joss Favela, La Arrolladora Banda El Limon de Rene Camacho, Lele Pons, Leslie Grace, Ludacris, Maluma, Nacho, Pitbull, Prince Royce, Tini, Wisin y Yandel and Zion & Lennox.

MIAMI, Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Spanish flamenco artist Diego el Cigala, known for blending European and Afro-Cuban traditions, has reimagined the classic salsa sound in a new documentary called “Indestructible: The Soul of Salsa.” On Tuesday, November 6th, The Orchard and Sony Music Latin will release the documentary on a global scale on digital and on demand.

Indestructible: The Soul of Salsa, a 90-minute music documentary directed by David Pareja, developed organically as a way to document the recording process and the significance behind Cigala’s Indestructible album. This album was nominated for a 2018 Grammy Award in the category of Best Tropical Latin Album. The music documentary takes audiences on a visual journey through the history of Salsa from its inception until the very moment when Cigala gives it his own flare. In the film, Diego drives his strong personality as a musician to the open roads that lead from Colombia to New York via Cuba (Havana), Puerto Rico (San Juan), The Dominican Republic and Miami. Indestructible captures an experience that reflects Cigala’s unique adventure beyond the music. By visiting places where Salsa prevails and has stood the test of time, Cigala knows it’s a powerful genre that reaches the hearts of all who love life. Indestructible will give viewers an extraordinary glimpse into the moments when Cigala encounters the greatest living legends of Salsa during his travels.

Mortgage Translations Clearinghouse Launched to Help Borrowers with English Language Barriers

0

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), Freddie Mac (OTCQB:FMCC), and Fannie Mae (OTC Bulletin Board: FNMA) together announce the launch of Mortgage Translations – a centralized clearinghouse of online resources to assist lenders, servicers, housing counselors, and other real estate professionals in serving limited English proficient (LEP) borrowers.

LEP borrowers make up a growing share of today’s mortgage market – a trend that is likely to continue in the coming decades – and lenders and other mortgage market participants are in need of tools to help them serve these consumers. FHFA, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae collaborated extensively with industry experts, consumer advocates, and other government agencies in developing the online collection of mortgage documents, educational materials, and a new online Spanish-English glossary produced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in collaboration with FHFA and the Enterprises. The glossary is expected to be particularly helpful in standardizing translations across the mortgage industry.

The first phase of the launch consists of Spanish-language documents. According to the U.S. Census, persons who speak Spanish as their primary language comprise more than 60 percent of the LEP population in the U.S. Resources in four other languages commonly spoken by LEP households – Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Tagalog –  will be added in the coming years.

“FHFA is proud to collaborate with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and so many others on this important initiative to help address language barriers that impede access to mortgage credit,” said Janell Byrd-Chichester, chief of staff at FHFA. “The Mortgage Translations clearinghouse is one part of a Language Access Multi-Year Plan and includes a number of meaningful resources to help mortgage industry professionals reach a broader range of borrowers.”

“Freddie Mac is pleased to work with FHFA and Fannie Mae on this language access multi-year plan, as it demonstrates our commitment to help make home possible for today’s borrower and the borrower of the future,” said Danny Gardner, senior vice president of single-family affordable lending and access to credit at Freddie Mac. “The materials included on this website will provide lenders, servicers, real estate professionals and housing counselors with tools to better assist, educate and engage LEP borrowers throughout the mortgage process.”

“Fannie Mae is excited to partner with FHFA and Freddie Mac to launch this central source of translated documents,” said Jonathan Lawless, vice president for product development and affordable housing at Fannie Mae. “This online resource will educate, engage and better assist LEP borrowers when shopping for a mortgage.”

DENVER, Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Discover the dynamic culture and abundant biodiversity of the Caribbean’s largest island nation in the new temporary exhibition “¡CUBA!,” opening at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on Oct. 26. This lively experience for all ages — presented in English and Spanish — inspires new perspectives and immerses Museum guests in the people, landscapes, unique species and daily life of this intriguing country. The exhibition is free with general admission.

Cuba is a place of stunning contrasts: mysterious caves and bright avenues, sweltering fields and cool forests, hard challenges and high energy. The main feature of the exhibition is a “plaza” evoking city life and lined with displays. Tabletops along the streetscape encourage guests to try activities related to Cuban dominoes, Cuban foods and coffee, local music and the nation’s obsession with baseball. A 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air on display reveals the story behind the vintage cars that famously rumble down Cuban streets.

Cuba is also one of the region’s most ecologically diverse countries, with the Caribbean’s healthiest coral reefs, most significant wetlands and largest rainforest. The exhibition features beautiful re-creations of the island’s habitats, with lifelike models representing its distinctive wildlife, both modern and extinct, and live lizards called anoles. About 50 percent of Cuba’s plants and 32 percent of its vertebrate animals are endemic, found only on the island. Highlights include the Zapata wetlands, home to the endangered Cuban crocodile, and a reconstructed cave environment.

The Museum worked with the Cuban community in Denver to enhance the experience, by adding live musical and dance performances at times during the exhibition’s run, and contributing profiles and personal mementos from local Cuban Americans.

The IMAX film “Cuba” in 2D opens in Phipps IMAX Theater on Oct. 26, and is the perfect complement to the exhibition. IMAX tickets and schedule are available at dmns.org/imax.

Daily hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Jan. 20, except on Dec. 25. For more information, visit dmns.org/cuba.

“¡CUBA!” is organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York (amnh.org), in collaboration with the Cuban National Museum of Natural History.

NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Nationally acclaimed real estate development firm Extell Development Company announced today the launch of sales for the tallest residential building in the world. A beacon of glass and steel rising 1,550 feet on famed Billionaire’s Row in New York City, Central Park Tower will be one of the most prestigious addresses in the world. Offering endless views, exquisite architecture, gracious layouts and an unprecedented level of service, Central Park Tower will be the definitive New York skyscraper.

Central Park Tower, Tallest Residential Building In The World, Launches Sales.

“Over a decade of planning and collaboration with the world’s most talented architects, engineers and designers has resulted in Manhattan’s newest iconic structure,” said Gary Barnett, Founder and President of Extell Development Company. “Central Park Tower introduces a level of design, quality and service that hasn’t been seen before. This building will stand out in New York City history as the singular residential offering that redefined luxury living.”

The tower is located on West 57th Street, New York City’s most prestigious corridor, with Central Park directly to the north and the dynamic hub of Columbus Circle to the west. Extell pioneered what is now known as Billionaire’s Row with One57, the first supertall tower on 57th Street. Located above the Park Hyatt’s five-star flagship hotel, the record-breaking glass tower overlooking Central Park is home to the most expensive residence ever sold in New York City at $100.5 million.

Central Park Tower was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), a firm dedicated to the design of high-performance, energy-efficient, striking architecture on an international scale. AS+GG has collaborated with clients across the globe to design nine of the world’s tallest and highest-performing buildings. Currently, AS+GG is responsible for the design of the next world’s tallest building, Jeddah Tower now under construction in Saudi Arabia, as well Wuhan Greenland Center and Greenland Tower Chengdu, both currently under construction in China.

With their breadth of experience, AS+GG is uniquely suited to deliver an iconic, landmark building like Central Park Tower. The building’s façade distinguishes itself from its surroundings by combining elements of glass, satin-finished stainless steel, and light-catching vertical and horizontal details that accentuate the interplay of texture and light. At a height of 300 feet from the street, the tower cantilevers to the east, creating Central Park views for all north-facing residences.

The definitive aspects of living in Central Park Tower are the extraordinary views and floor plans. The grand living and entertaining spaces are strategically positioned in the corners of the residences to maximize multiple panoramas and citywide views. Structural elements are discreetly located between the residential units, resulting in floor-to-ceiling windows, unencumbered views and gracious layouts.

“One of the greatest responsibilities of architecture is to continue to elevate experiences yet create structures that are elegant and respectful,” said Gordon Gill of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. “Central Park Tower was designed to take advantage of the spirit of the great city of New York and create an address worthy of its location on Billionaires Row and Central Park.”

The interiors of these grand residences are designed by Rottet Studio, whose credits include The Surrey Hotel in Manhattan, The St. Regis in Aspen, The Beverly Hills Hotel Presidential Bungalows and The River Oaks in Houston. Rottet’s interiors are marked by a distinguished level of detail and incorporating unique and custom finishes to create an unparalleled interior environment. Starting on the 32nd floor, the 179 ultra-luxury two-to-eight-bedroom residences range in size from 1,435 square feet to over 17,500 square feet.

Located within the tallest residential tower ever built will be one of the world’s most exclusive private clubs, Central Park Club.  The Club will offer approximately 50,000 square feet of thoroughly curated luxury amenities spread across three floors, each location providing a unique experience complemented by five-star service.

The first club level, located on the 14th floor, will feature a residents’ lounge with billiards, screening and function rooms. The centerpiece of this floor will be a 15,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with a spectacular 60-foot swimming pool, cabanas, bar, screening wall, food and beverage service, and an outdoor children’s playground. The health and wellness center on the 16th floor will include a 63-foot indoor swimming pool, state-of-the art fitness center, basketball court, regulation squash court, sauna, steam and treatment rooms. The Club will culminate on the 100th floor at an elevation of over 1,000 feet. The plans for this remarkable space are yet to be revealed.

At the base of the building will be the new 320,000-square-foot, seven-story Nordstrom NYC Flagship store that represents the company’s biggest and best statement of the brand. After a 30-year search for the optimum site, the Seattle-based fashion retailer selected Central Park Tower as the location for its largest single-project investment in its over 100-year history.

Extell is co-developing Central Park Tower with SMI USA (SMI), the US subsidiary of Shanghai Municipal Investment, a leading infrastructural investment company responsible for the esteemed Shanghai Tower, the second tallest building in the world.

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida, Oct. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — About 4,000 repair workers today continued to restore power to Duke Energy customers on the Florida Panhandle following Hurricane Michael.

Duke Energy, the nation's largest electric utility, unveils its new logo.

About 14,800 customers remained without power as of 4:30 p.m.

The company has repaired more than 62,000 outages. About 77,700 Duke Energy customers lost power during the storm.

The hurricane damaged a significant portion of the region’s electric system, including transmission towers, substations, utility poles, power lines and other major infrastructure components – all of which will need to be repaired or replaced before power can be restored to many of Duke Energy’s customers.

Customers can view an online map that provides the most current estimated power restoration times:

More information

  • In all counties, estimated times indicate when power will be restored to the majority of customers whose properties did not experience damage or flooding that would prevent electric service restoration. Many customers’ power will be restored sooner.
  • Power restoration times in isolated areas might be extended, depending on damage severity.
  • Damaged or flooded properties first might require repairs by a licensed electrician and/or an electrical inspection by local officials before electric service can be restored. This includes properties whose electric meter boxes were damaged. Though Duke Energy owns the actual meter at each customer’s home or business, the customer owns the meter box in which the meter is mounted. For safety reasons, the company cannot restore power to a property whose meter box is damaged.

Damage assessment and repairs to the electric system are continuing in all areas that crews are able to access.

The hurricane damaged numerous electric transmission and distribution facilities, including substations, utility poles, power lines and other key system components – all of which will need to be repaired or replaced before power can be restored to individual customers.

Below are power restoration details by geographical zone.

Zone 1 – Taylor, Madison, Hamilton, Suwannee, Lafayette, Dixie and Gilchrist counties. Individual power restoration times are available at https://www.duke-energy.com/outages

Zone 2 – Jefferson and Leon counties. Estimated power restoration time is 11:59 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13. Individual power restoration times will be updated as they become available. Visit https://www.duke-energy.com/outages for details.

Zone 3 This zone (described below) experienced significant, widespread damage. Duke Energy crews are assessing damage and making repairs as conditions allow. Some areas are difficult to access or totally inaccessible due to road damage, downed trees and large amounts of debris.

  • Wakulla County: The majority of customers that can receive power will have their service restored no later than 11:59 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. Individual power restoration times will be updated as they become available. Visit https://www.duke-energy.com/outages for details.
  • Franklin County communities of Carabelle, Lanark Village and Panacea: The majority of customers that can receive power will have their service restored no later than 11:59 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15. Individual power restoration times will be updated as they become available. Visit https://www.duke-energy.com/outages for details.
  • Franklin County communities of Dog Island, St. George Island, Eastpoint, Apalachicola
    and Alligator Point:
Estimated power restoration times for these areas will be available on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.

Zone 4 – Bay and Gulf counties. This zone is where the center of the hurricane made landfall, causing massive destruction. Many parts of this zone are difficult to access or totally inaccessible. Some areas will require extensive reconstruction of the electric system. Duke Energy currently is unable to provide an estimated power restoration time for this zone. The company is working hard to determine this information as soon as possible.

Duke Energy’s transmission system in this zone experienced extensive damage. Many roads are impassable because they have been either washed away or covered with downed trees and storm debris – making it difficult to access many sections of the zone.

More information

  • In all counties, estimated times indicate when power will be restored to the majority of customers whose properties did not experience damage or flooding that would prevent electrical service restoration. Many customers will be restored sooner.
  • Power restoration times in isolated areas might be extended, depending on damage severity.
  • Damaged or flooded properties first might require repairs by a licensed electrician and/or an electrical inspection by local officials before electric service can be restored. This includes properties whose electric meter boxes were damaged.
  • An estimated total of 31,000 Duke Energy Florida customers lost power due to the hurricane. Latest outage numbers can be found here.

MBC Connect Empowers Metastatic Breast Cancer Community with New Mobile App to Leverage Patient Data and Drive Research

NEW YORK, Oct. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Today, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance launched MBC ConnectTM, a free mobile and web-based tool for patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) that will build a powerful database of patient information to help drive research, discoveries, and advances for the MBC community. MBC Connect provides access to an interactive patient registry and a research portal with opportunities to explore de-identified patient data. The tool will also create a link between patients and potential relevant clinical trials and research studies.

“MBC Connect is designed to address some very serious challenges in the MBC community,” said Marc Hurlbert, Chairman, MBC Alliance. “It not only represents an opportunity to unlock the mysteries of a marginalized patient population, it also represents significant opportunity for a disease that’s only received a fraction of breast cancer research funding.”

MBC (or stage IV breast cancer) is defined as when cancer has spread beyond the breast to other organs in the body, most often bones, lungs, liver, or the brain. At stage IV, breast cancer is considered treatable but not curable. While it is estimated that up to 155,000 people in the U.S. are living with MBC, the exact number remains unknown. That’s because existing population-based cancer registries do not count metastatic recurrences. Further, fewer than five percent of adults diagnosed with cancer ever participate in a clinical trial, including those diagnosed with MBC, which leaves researchers without the robust data set necessary to drive new discoveries.

Traditionally, a patient registry is a place where patients can sign up and enter information about a specific condition or disease, which is standardized and then used to inform health research. However, most registries do not provide opportunities for patients to update their information or engage beyond initial sign up.

MBC Connect offers patients and caregivers an interactive experience where they can regularly update their information as their MBC experience changes over time. Patients and caregivers can respond to five brief surveys that capture information about who they are, their history with MBC, and their quality of life. Patients can also build a holistic treatment profile that captures information about their treatments over time. Participants will regularly receive personalized insights, including MBC news and events, and potential clinical trial opportunities.

“As a person living with MBC each day, I believe that MBC Connect – a resource developed by patients, for patients – will help accelerate research for the benefit of a community that demands progress,” said Shirley Mertz, President of the Metastatic Breast Cancer Network and a stage IV breast cancer patient. “Our goal is to make sure that patients are active and engaged partners in research – not merely subjects.”

All patient data will be de-identified, encrypted, and stored in a HIPAA-compliant database that can be accessed via the “Explore the Data” button at www.mbcconnect.org. Thus, MBC Connect provides a rare opportunity for patients to not only own and update their own information, but to analyze aggregated patient data themselves.

“MBC Connect can help patients feel connected to fellow MBC patients, and their physicians and care teams like never before,” said Timothy J. Pluard, MD, Medical Director of Saint Luke’s Hospital Koontz Center for Advanced Breast Cancer in Kansas City, Missouri. “This level of information sharing and insights will help foster a sense of confidence and knowledge among patients that strengthens the doctor-patient relationship, which is such an important part of the patient experience.”

MBC Alliance will release the tool to four more countries in 2019. The patient app is available for download in the App Store or Google Play in English and Spanish. For the desktop version of the application, click here.

About the MBC Alliance
