Scott Dixon scores Honda’s sixth IndyCar Series win of 2017

Extends his championship points lead

Charlie Kimball runs sixth in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda

ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin, June 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Scott Dixon provided a master class in Verizon IndyCar Series racecraft on Sunday at Road America, taking charge of the Kohler Grand Prix midway through the 220-mile contest and fending off all challengers to claim his first victory of 2017, and the sixth of the year for Honda.

Scott Dixon scored Honda's sixth Verizon IndyCar Series victory of 2017 Sunday at Road America.

Dixon pushed his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda from fifth on the grid to third in the opening stint of the 55-lap race, and stayed out for one additional lap during the second run to gain another position.  Dixon then passed Josef Newgarden of Team Penske for the lead on a Lap 31 restart.  Except for turning over the lead to teammate Charlie Kimball for a single lap in an exchange of pit stops on Lap 43, Dixon remained in control for the rest of the race, despite fierce pressure from Newgarden in the closing laps.

The victory was the first of the year for Dixon, but the 41st of his career, moving him to within one win of tying Michael Andretti for third in career Indy car victories.  It also extends his lead in the 2017 IndyCar Series Drivers’ Championship, with 379 points to 345 points for defending champion Simon Pagenaud.

In addition to leading a lap and running in the lead group throughout the contest, Kimball also had his best result of the season with a sixth-place run in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.  Ed Jones continued his impressive rookie season with Dale Coyne Racing with a seventh-place finish.  Graham Rahal worked an “off-sequence,” four-pit-stop strategy to his best advantage to finish eighth, with Max Chilton ninth and Mikhail Aleshin – despite missing Friday practice due to a travel Visa issue – rounding out the top 10.

Video recaps from this weekend’s Honda IndyCar Series racing activities Road America, as well as Acura Motorsports action in the Pirelli World Challenge and at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, are available on the “Honda Racing/HPD” YouTube channel. Produced by the Carolinas Production Group, the video packages can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/HondaRacingHPDTV

After a weekend at the longest track on the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule, and championship next returns to the shortest, the Iowa Speedway oval, for the July 9 Iowa Corn 300.

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started 5th, Finished 1st, 1st Indy car win of 2017, 41st career victory: “The NTT DATA car has really had pace all weekend. The Penske cars definitely had something figured out this weekend, and we knew we were going to have a battle on our hands. Then we missed the morning warmup today [due to a] a fuel pressure issue. The team worked hard to fix the car, but it was a bit of an unknown for the race.  But it held up. We had great [race] strategy and great pace today.  I couldn’t be happier for the team. We had a few races earlier this year that I felt got away from us, so this feels good and it’s good for us in the [championship] points.”

Charlie Kimball (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started 10th, finished 6th: “A really solid day for the Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing team. We had really good pace and really good fuel mileage on the first two stints. That third stint, I don’t think I managed the Firestone alternates [softer compound tires] as well as some of the guys around me. That was disappointing, because I think we could have maybe had a shot at a top five. Overall, though, to fight off some competitors for that last stint, after the final yellow, felt good and it felt good to bring it home in sixth. Pretty happy with it. Big congrats to [teammate] Scott Dixon. What a way to celebrate [team managing director] Mike Hull’s 25th anniversary with the team and get Honda and Chip Ganassi Racing their first win after coming back together this season.”

Art St. Cyr (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s Honda victory:  “Scott sure drove an awesome race!  Both his race craft and speed were on full display today.  Congratulations to Scott and the entire Chip Ganassi team.  We now have six victories this year, and at least one from each of our teams.  I believe that speaks to the strength of our 2017 lineup and it is extremely gratifying.  This is a testament to the skill of our teams and the hard work from everyone at HPD.  Let’s keep this momentum going into Iowa.”

0

SAN DIEGO, June 26, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The growth of the poly-cultural mainstream in the U.S. is changing the consumer spectrum. As such, today more than ever, marketers need an efficient way to develop integrated strategies and communications that effectively connect with today’s diverse audiences. As a solution, Culturati Research & Consulting, Inc. (Culturati) created The Cultural Mosaic™, a comprehensive Total Market consumer segmentation model that looks at today’s U.S. landscape based on two critical dimensions: cultural mindset and social values. This approach has proven to uncover growth opportunities for brands through Culturati’s Hispanic segmentation model released in 2012 and typed into Nielsen’s buy side (2015) and watch side (2016) products for elevated actionability. This highly successful framework serves as the base for The Cultural Mosaic™ which also includes a Cultural Influence Index™. The index measures how the mainstream is influenced by ethnic groups and how those ethnic groups are influenced by the mainstream, and exposes opportunity elements that drive this dynamic.

LOS ANGELES, June 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Alcohol Justice, the California Alcohol Policy Alliance, and the Los Angeles Drug and Alcohol Policy Alliance are hosting a press event to dispel any doubt that SB 384 – Wiener’s 4 a.m. Bar Bill – is bad news for everyone except those selling booze.

Alcohol Justice logo.

What:

Press Conference

When:

Tuesday, June 27, 2017 9 a.m.

Where:

Los Angeles City Hall – Steps Facing 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012

Who:

Invited Participants:

  • AADAP
  • Alcohol Justice
  • American Indians in Film and Television
  • California Alcohol Policy Alliance (CAPA)
  • California College and University Police Chiefs Association
  • Coalition to Prevent Alcohol-Related Harms in LA Metro (CoPALM)

  • Los Angeles Police Department
  • Los Angeles Department of Public Health
  • MADD
  • Poursafe
  • Santee Solutions
  • The Westside Coalition
  • Women Against Gun Violence

Why:

  • SB 384 can extend bar hours to 4 a.m., causing neighborhood noise and violence later into the night, filling emergency rooms and costing cities more in police and ambulance services
  • California already suffers more annual alcohol-related harm than any other state:
    –10,572 deaths
    –17,700 hospitalizations
    –$34 billion cost to public
    –$13.7 billion cost to government
  • SB 384 provides no extra funding to help local governments pay for increased costs of police, fire, EMS, and emergency department staff to clean up the extra harm that two more hours of alcohol consumption will cause
  • There is no ABC capacity to regulate late night bars
  • There is little or no mass transportation available in most CA cities at 4 a.m.
  • SB 384 advocates misuse the term “Local Control” which is ineffectual in controlling alcohol consumption
  • Passing SB 384 will lead to more vehicle crash injuries, emergency room admissions, and alcohol-related assault and injury
  • SB 384 is bad public policy that will only benefit those who profit from the manufacture and sale of alcohol while increasing the personal tragedies and financial costs of alcohol-related harm

Texas small land sales jump 14 percent, price per acre declines in 2016

AUSTIN, Texas, June 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Texas small land sales volume experienced strong gains in 2016, while the average price per acre declined slightly statewide, according to the Texas Small Land Sales Report released today by the Texas Association of Realtors.

Texas Association of Realtors logo. (PRNewsFoto/Texas Association of Realtors)

“As our state’s population continues to grow and the footprints of Texas cities expand, the demand for rural land will only increase,” said Vicki Fullerton, chairman of the Texas Association of Realtors. “At the same time, after consecutive years of rapid growth in real estate land prices, prices in many regions have leveled off.”

Texas small land sales volume jumped 14.2 percent annually to 6,992 small land tracts sold in 2016. During the same time frame, the average price per acre dipped 0.3 percent year-over-year to $5,647 an acre. The definition of a “small” land sale varies from region to region but generally is considered to be a land purchase of 200 acres or less. The exception is Far West Texas, where 500 to 8,000 acres qualifies as a small land sale.

Strong small land sales growth was evident throughout most regions, with small land purchases in Far West Texas, Northeast Texas and the Austin-Waco-Hill Country experiencing annual gains of more than 20 percent. Conversely, small land sales in West Texas declined 20.6 percent from 2015.

As demand for small land tracts continued to rise, the average tract size of Texas land purchased declined. In 2016, the average tract size for Texas small land purchases declined three acres from 2015 to 36 acres. Far West Texas and South Texas were the only regions that experienced declines in average price per acre, falling 64.9 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively.

Charles Gilliland, economist with the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, commented: “While the Texas land market remains strong, multiple factors are impacting land sales activity throughout the state. Rising prices of irrigated farmland and a sluggish agricultural sector are driving up land costs in the Panhandle, and residual effects of the oil and gas downturn have slowed small land sales activity in West and South Texas. Statewide, shortages in prime land are stifling land price growth as developers consider less desirable land tracts.”

Fullerton concluded: “The wise utilization of Texas land is the bedrock of our state’s economy and quality of life. As Texas continues to experience rapid population growth, it’s important that leaders across our state and within our communities take care to ensure that ongoing land segmentation and development preserves the unique culture of our state’s regions and does not harm essential industries.”

Assemblyman Travis Allen Announces Bid to Become Governor of California

0

SACRAMENTO, California, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Today, Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach) announced his bid to become the next Governor of California in November 2018.

Photo – http://mma.prnewswire.com/media/526885/Assemblyman_Travis_Allen_gov.jpg

California’s once greatest-in-the-nation status has been steadily eroded by decades of failed leadership – under 4 terms of Jerry Brown and over 40 years of Legislative control by the California Democrats,” said Assemblyman Travis Allen. “Whether it’s due to Jerry Brown’s massive gas tax, double digit increases in violent crime rates, our failing schools or our crumbling infrastructure – there is a silent supermajority in California who are waking up and demanding real change in our state.

“I am running to be the next Governor of California to take back our state for the forgotten ordinary citizens of California, who will no longer tolerate the squandering of our incredible natural abundance of people, economy, and resources by limousine liberals beholden to ravenous public sector union bosses and extremist environmentalists. The citizens of California are tired of being taken for granted, and will no longer accept the California Democrat Party’s hollow excuses for why the world’s 6th largest economy should have the nation’s highest poverty rate.”

Travis Allen’s campaign is already off to a fast start,” said Mike Johnson, Travis Allen’s campaign strategist. “He garnered national name recognition by leading the effort to place a statewide repeal of the widely unpopular gas tax increase on the November ballot.”

“The campaign has reserved a majority of the statewide slate cards and will appear on over 11 million mail pieces.  Allen already has built the largest social media reach of any elected Republican in the state and regularly reaches over 3 million Californians weekly,” said Johnson.

After 5 years of serving in the Legislature, I have had enough of the wasteful spending and dictatorial policies pushed by Jerry Brown and the Sacramento Democrats that are directly hurting hard working Californian families,” said Allen. “California residents and companies are fleeing our state by the thousands, and those that stay are beset on all sides with the nation’s highest taxes, crippling regulations, and ever more complex laws that benefit a select few. California needs new leadership that is not bought and paid for by union leaders and out of touch liberal elites. I am running for Governor to make California once again the greatest state in the country, and a place where we all can live our lives, run a business, and raise a family.”

WASHINGTON, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The March of Dimes released the following statement from President Stacey D. Stewart regarding release of the Better Care Reconciliation Act:

“The March of Dimes is profoundly disappointed that the Senate leadership has failed to protect pregnant women, infants, and families in the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA).

“The bill released today fails repeatedly to prioritize and promote the needs of pregnant women, babies, and their families.  No investment is made in promoting maternal and child health, or in ensuring that moms and infants can get the quality care they need for healthy pregnancies and a strong start in life.

“Under the BCRA, families can expect to pay higher premiums for insurance plans that fail to cover the services they need.  Medicaid coverage for up to 6.5 million women of childbearing age will be rescinded, making it harder for them to get healthy before they get pregnant.  States will be able to permit insurers not to cover maternity and newborn care, meaning women and their partners will have to purchase expensive additional coverage for pregnancy or pay all the costs out of pocket for their prenatal and maternity care.  Hundreds of billions of dollars will be slashed from Medicaid for people including pregnant women and children, requiring states to cut eligibility, services, or payments to strapped health care providers.

“This bill penalizes pregnant women, children and families at every turn.  The March of Dimes calls upon all U.S. Senators to vote against this ill-conceived package, and to go back to the drawing board to produce legislation that will support the needs of moms, babies and families.”
