Complaints filed with the Washington Attorney General, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the state officer certification board
SEATTLE, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Civil rights attorney Evan M. Oshan today called on Auburn Police Officer Andrew Bryant to resign over his October 28, 2026 use of force against Mauro Alberto Felix Valles at Auburn Way North and 37th Street NE in Auburn, Washington.
On November 4, Oshan & Associates, P.C. submitted a civil rights complaint to the Washington State Attorney General’s Wing Luke Civil Rights Division and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington. The firm also filed a complaint with the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission asking that Officer Bryant’s peace officer certification be revoked.
Recordings released by the Auburn Police Department show Officer Bryant firing his Taser at Mr. Felix Valles, who fell to the pavement. Traffic camera footage then shows the officer straddling him in the roadway and punching him in the head and face more than 20 times while drivers in stopped traffic looked on. Officer Bryant’s body camera fell from his uniform during the blows and kept recording audio. Backup officers noted that his hands were bloodied.
The Auburn Police Department told the press that Mr. Felix Valles suffered minor injuries. In fact, he suffered a mild traumatic brain injury as well as other injuries.
“The City’s own cameras recorded this,” said Oshan, managing partner of Oshan & Associates. “Mauro was on the ground. The officer was on top of him, and he kept punching him in the head. Someone who does that should not be wearing a badge. Officer Bryant should resign today.”
Officer Bryant is on administrative leave. The Renton Police Department is conducting a criminal review, and the City of Auburn has opened an internal investigation. Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus publicly identified Officer Bryant at the November 2 City Council meeting.
Mr. Felix Valles is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 8:45 AM in King County District Court, Auburn Courtroom 1, Auburn Courthouse, 340 East Main Street, Auburn, Washington. Attorney Evan M. Oshan will make a statement to the media outside the Auburn Courthouse after the hearing, and is available for interviews in person or by Zoom.
Anyone who saw the incident or recorded it is asked to contact Oshan & Associates.
