AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 6, 2026
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Competition among homebuyers eased this year, according to the 2026 Texas Homebuying Experience Report released today by Texas Realtors. The report, which presents a snapshot of members’ experiences with buyer-clients, shows that 69% of Texas Realtors had clients who did not compete against other offers, up from 57% last year. Nearly a third of respondents said their most recent client who purchased a home did so after making only one offer.

Buyers are taking their time
Agents also reported that most of their clients felt they had time to conduct their home searches, with 71% saying buyers felt they had either plenty of time or a reasonable amount of time. Only 2% of respondents said their clients felt very pressed for time.
“Buyers are benefiting from more choices and more time to make decisions, but many are facing affordability challenges,” said Jennifer Wauhob, Chairman of Texas Realtors. “A Texas Realtor can help you assess your options and find a property that will work for your situation.”
Some buyers paused the search, but not for lack of options
Among Realtors who had clients stop or pause a home search, 39% said life circumstances changed, 36% said buyers couldn’t find the specific home features they wanted, and 34% said the available homes were too expensive. Only 6% said too few homes were available.
Affordability is about more than price
Realtors reported that most buyers stayed close to their original budget, with 45% saying their most recent buyer paid about their target price. In open-ended comments, many agents described buyers who were surprised by how much property taxes, homeowners insurance, and mortgage interest rates affected what they could comfortably afford and who adjusted their expectations once they saw the full monthly payment.
“Clients can count on a Realtor to help bring the whole picture into focus,” Wauhob said, “whether that means taking a closer look at the numbers or adjusting when priorities change. There are often more options than people realize.”
