CORAL GABLES, Fla., May 21, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — BACARDÍ® rum, the world’s best-selling and most awarded rum, was the main ingredient in the iconic Cuban cocktails that toasted to Cuban culture last night at the BACARDÍ Rum Cuban Independence Day annual celebration. In the spirit and celebration of the brand’s 153 year heritage, BACARDÍ brought the spotlight to talented Cuban musicians at this year’s event which celebrates Cuba’s independence from Spain.

The 2015 BACARDÍ Rum Cuban Independence Day celebration set the stage for the premiere of UNTAMEABLE. The three-minute docu-short featuring Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez was created in partnership by one of the Bacardí family’s own musical legends, Maria Bacardi, and Edgaro Gonzalez and directed by Benjamin del Castillo, and showcases Cuba’s greatest contemporary musicians.

GRAMMY award-inning drummer, El Negro, made a special appearance last night, taking the stage with GRAMMY nominated vocalist and percussionist Pedrito Martinez, Boris Larramendi and international musical collective (U)nity featuring Xiomara Laugart and Johonatan Hoard at Manhattan’s Arena in the heart of Times Square.

“BACARDÍ is proud of its Cuban roots, and we especially appreciate the unstoppable energy that the music brings to the party,” said Maria Bacardi. “Music has always been a part of the brand’s DNA – from Prohibition parties in Havana, Cuba, in the 1920s, through a myriad of radio shows until the late ’50s. In addition to having paid homage to the gems of our Cuban past, this year we begin honoring contemporary Cuban musical legends, which approach their craft with the same relentless passion that BACARDÍ rum did then, that it does now, and that will continue to do in the future.”

Inspired by the Golden Age of Cuba, attendees enjoyed sounds of legendary Cuban artists, photo shoots with classic Havana-style cars, authentic hand-rolled Cuban cigars, and the original cocktail of freedom, the BACARDÍ Cuba Libre.

About BACARDÍ Rums
In 1862, Bacardi revolutionized the spirits industry when founder Don Facundo Bacardí Massó began producing his remarkable light-bodied, smooth rum. The unique taste of BACARDÍ inspired cocktail pioneers to invent some of the world’s most famous drink recipes including the Mojito, the Daiquirí, the Cuba Libre, the Piña Colada, and the Presidente. BACARDÍ Superior rum has won more than 550 awards for quality and taste making it the world’s most awarded rum.  Today, BACARDÍ is produced in Puerto Rico, following the production legacy set forth by Don Facundo Bacardi Massó – crafted in a five-step distillation process, mellowed in American white oak barrels, and filtered five times for unparalleled quality and smoothness. http://www.Bacardi.com
