CHCI Statement On Rita Moreno’s Selection To Receive The 2015 Kennedy Center Honors

WASHINGTON, July 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) congratulates Rita Moreno on her much deserved selection to receive a 2015 Kennedy Center Honor acknowledging her incomparable contributions to the arts.

«Rita Moreno is one of our country’s most cherished stars and is admired globally for her ground-breaking and iconic roles throughout her career,» said Esther Aguilera, President and CEO of CHCI and member of the Kennedy Center Latino Advisory Council. «Rita is only one of 12 artists and the only Hispanic to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, the four most prestigious awards in show business. We commend the Kennedy Center on her selection for the award which celebrates her extraordinary influence on American culture and artistic footprint on the world. Rita is not only a luminary on stage and on camera, she is also an author. Most importantly, she has been an excellent role model for our young aspiring Latino leaders and a caring leader in the Latino community throughout her life. Because of her success in the arts and her involvement with the Latino community, CHCI awarded her the 2005 CHCI Chair’s Award at our Annual Awards Gala during Hispanic Heritage Month. We congratulate her on the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor and wish her continued success.»
