Abelardo Pérez’s new book La Historia de un Emigrante Más, is a gripping memoir of the author’s toilful journey to the USA as an immigrant
HASKELL, N. J., Feb. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The book La Historia de un Emigrante Más was created by Abelardo Pérez. Abelardo is an author who was born in a town in Chiapas, south of Mexico City, in 1971. At eighteen years old he emigrated to the United States of America.
Pérez said this about his book: “The intention of writing this book is not just lines; it is just one more story of the dangers that we emigrants go through when crossing the border of the United States illegally. Perhaps some are no longer here to tell about it; only they know what they happened when crossing the Rio Grande, when they were lost in the desert of Phoenix, Arizona, or in those mountains of the state of Texas.
This is just a voice to raise awareness that we only seek a better future for our families. Some people will come up with bad thoughts, but most of us are just looking for a better life. I also want to remember that sometimes no matter how high the wall is or how long and arduous the journey is, you have to keep going because there will always be a light of hope at the end of the road.”
Published by Page Publishing, Abelardo Pérez’s new book La Historia de un Emigrante Más will enlighten the readers of the struggles of immigrants in a foreign country as they try to realize their hopes and dreams in life.
Consumers who wish to view and understand the poignant circumstances of an immigrant can purchase La Historia de un Emigrante Más in any bookstore or online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

José Manuel Hernández Gutiérrez’s new book Cuando las Manos Sudan en Exceso discusses the causes, symptoms, and effects of hyperhidrosis among patients that reveal their health status
MIAMI, Feb. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The book Cuando las Manos Sudan en Exceso was created by José Manuel Hernández Gutiérrez. José is an author who was born in Havana, Cuba. He graduated as a general surgeon at the same hospital that made him a doctor. He began to work on his own merit at the National Center for Minimum Access, the highest-level Cuban Institute. He is currently developing as a house physician at Baptist Hospital of Miami, Florida.
Gutiérrez said this about his book: “Why does primary hyperhidrosis remain so silent on the part of patients and underestimated by health systems when it is much more frequent than is believed and so limits those who suffer from it? Under the title Cuando las Manos Sudan en Exceso, the author wanted to answer this question, making public the experience gathered from sixteen years of professional work in this field. From the same side of the patient, understanding his limitations and the frustrations of not having the answers, this book is developed. Primary palmar hyperhidrosis is no less important than any other disease, just as it is no more. Like all the others, it requires its precise evaluation for each patient individually, as it happens with all other medical conditions.
Palmar hyperhidrosis is definitely a disease in itself, and not simply ‘a particular condition of excessive sweating in some people, probably as a result of stress’ as many think. The frustrations that patients suffer in their sociopersonal development and the variable degree of mental illness that can accompany them qualify the behavior of these patients with a tendency to hide the symptoms and not to seek help. All of the above and general recommendations at the end are developed throughout the work.”
Published by Page Publishing, José Manuel Hernández Gutiérrez’s new book Cuando las Manos Sudan en Exceso illuminates the impact of hyperhidrosis in patients that reveal the state of their physical welfare.
Consumers who wish to read and understand in-depth research on hyperhidrosis can purchase Cuando las Manos Sudan en Exceso online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

Cultural Comfort, Siloes And Stress Impacts Gen Z Trust Circles

FAIRFAX, Va., Feb. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — According to a study by the Culture Marketing Council: The Voice of Hispanic Marketing (CMC), despite a multicultural majority among the under-18 age segment, most non-Hispanic white (NHW) teens do not experience the MC majority reality in their daily lives—from their schools and neighborhoods to their friendships online and in real life. Regardless of race or background, teen stress levels are high, trust circles are tight and vary among kids and parents, depending on culture, age, and experience with organizations and institutions.

“Trust circles, cultural comfort or discomfort, and stress are all nuances that marketers must understand, as they impact brand relationships and purchase decisions,” said CMC Research Chair Nancy Tellet, founder, brand & consumer navigator at PureClarity LLC. “Trust, plays a huge role not only in the political arena and friendships, but also where we live, how we raise our kids, and in the brands we choose to buy.”
Today, two-thirds of multicultural Gen Zers grow up in families that attempt to retain most of their historical cultural values. They also take cues from modern American society, choosing which values to keep, reject and add.
A Multicultural Majority in Numbers but Not in Daily Life
Racial and ethnic segments tend to self-silo across schools, neighborhoods and friendships, both on social media and in real life. This is mostly prevalent among NHW teens and tweens ages 8-17. While non-Hispanic Blacks (NHB) and Hispanics silo less, the majority of their in real life friends are either their own segment or other persons of color (POC). When it comes to social media, however, friends are slightly more diverse for NHW & NHB but virtually same for Hispanics.
The Majority of Gen Zers and Parents Are Comfortable with All Types of People
Sixty percent of Gen Zers and parents say, “I am truly comfortable with all people.” Among the 40 percent—a sizable minority—who are uncomfortable, all segments regardless of race or ethnicity report most discomfort with “rich people” and “evangelical Christians.” Blacks and Hispanics also say they are most uncomfortable among NHWs, NHWs and Blacks share a discomfort of LGBTQ+ people, and, surprisingly, Hispanics say they are most uncomfortable around “other Hispanics.” In addition, one in five (22 percent) NHWs are uncomfortable hearing Spanish spoken in public.
The Stress is Real for Gen Zers
Across all segments, teens report “being smart and well educated” as a core value for success; however, this ambition and often, fear of failure leaves them feeling stressed and isolated. Stress among Hispanic teens is higher than other groups. The shrinking middle class has added to teen stress for all groups especially NHW teens who feel they need to “protect” their turf. Black and Hispanic teens expressed more resilience with an attitude of “Life is tough, but I am tougher,” since life was never that easy to begin with. Hispanic teen stress actually decreased during COVID, as the negative spotlight shifted from them to the pandemic and other social and political issues.
The Cultural Closet: What’s Kept, What’s Tossed and What’s Being Added
More than two-thirds of POC want to keep most of their historical cultural values. Among Hispanics and NHB, family culture “keeps you safe, sane and happy.” For Hispanics, it’s about sharing knowledge and traditions while instilling a sense of interdependence (we vs me). For NHBs, family connections not only protect and support but also serve to share knowledge and pass down tradition. Hispanics and NHBs ages 13 to 49 keep values of resilience and the importance of their communities in their cultural closet, as it is important to succeed in spite of adversity.
Hispanic and Black teens place a high level of importance on the practice of “respect” including respect for their elders and stronger parental authority, including discipline within the parent/child relationship. Among NHBs, respect is straightforward, stressing the importance of respect for oneself and receiving it from others. Among Hispanics, “respeto” is complex and more formal than what is typically expected in the U.S—with an emphasis on courtesy, including helping above and beyond when you are a guest in someone’s house or how you behave with authority figures, such as your doctor or an elder.
More than half of Hispanic and NHB teens agree that traditional gender roles have to go. In addition, six out of 10 Hispanics ages 13 to 49 would like to get rid of socio-economic and racial colorism hierarchies.
Methodology & Funders:
- This study builds on more than 20,500 consumer touchpoints to date, the CMC released the third part of a comprehensive study on Gen Z (ages 13 to 17), IT’S TIME: Ready (or Not) for the Multicultural Majority, analyzing social media consumption, streaming video habits and the escalating power of culture in content.
- The study received financial or operational support from Kantar, ThinkNow, ViacomCBS and Univision.
- Quantitative research came from 2,418 13-17s (Gen Z) and 25-49 parents of kids 8-12 (65% Millennials/ 35% Xers) with equal sample representation of Hispanics (HISP), non-Hispanic Blacks (NHB) & non-Hispanic Whites (NHW) from January 2020 to February 2020.
- Qualitative interviews with 54 respondents (36T/18P), in-home pairs (HISP/NHB/NHW) and two Gen Z multicultural workshops (HISP/NHB/NHW/Asian-American/Other)
For more information, visit culturemarketingcouncil.org and follow the CMC on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at @cmchispanic.
About CMC: Founded in 1996 as the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies, the Culture Marketing Council: The Voice of Hispanic Marketing is the national trade organization of all marketing, communications, and media firms with trusted Hispanic expertise.
“In our landmark study, IT’S TIME: Ready (or Not) for the Multicultural Majority, we learned that Gen Z teens and parents feel a sense of unity with other minority segments and understands that hate and racism are the biggest issues they face together,” said CMC Research Chair Nancy Tellet, founder, brand & consumer navigator at PureClarity LLC. “With more than half of people ages 13 to 49 having quit a culturally illiterate brand, it’s all about what role culture plays in what stays in and what gets thrown out of trust circles.”

More than 18,500 Individuals Unlawfully Detained by L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Over ICE Holds to Receive Compensation from $14 Million Settlement
MEXICO CITY, Feb. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Individuals who were held in L.A. County jail based on ICE holds in the period from October 2010 to June 2014 may be eligible to participate in a financial settlement to compensate them for rights violations committed by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). More than 18,500 people are entitled to receive restitution from the $14 million USD settlement. Class members are eligible to receive from $250 to $25,000 based on the time they were held and other details. In order to receive compensation, individuals must submit a claim — which does not require them to disclose their immigration status — no later than October 10, 2021. All information submitted by claimants will be kept confidential.
The class action suit Roy v. County of Los Angeles was brought by immigrants unlawfully detained by the LASD — sometimes for months — due to “ICE hold” requests (also known as immigration detainers). A federal court ruled that LASD violated the constitution by jailing people solely on the basis of these holds. Lee Baca was L.A. Sheriff for most of the period in which violations took place; Baca is currently serving a three-year prison term for obstructing a federal investigation.
“As immigrants, we come from different countries, and law enforcement bodies act like basic protections don’t apply to us,” said Antonia C., who was detained after being wrongfully accused of car theft. She was denied bail because of an ICE hold and kept in jail for 70 days in 2012. “They broke my family and home. When they lock you up, they break you. They hurt my physical and mental health. All of us who were affected by this arrangement between ICE and the Sheriff’s Department, we need to put our voices together. While no amount of money will ever be enough to mend our scars, this compensation fund is so important. We need to take what we’re owed and show them that what they did to us — to our families — matters.”
Antonia’s daughter, who prefers to remain anonymous, said: “These actions don’t only affect people who were jailed — think about their families. I was only 11 years old when my mom was torn away. They broke us apart. I was filled with confusion and sadness. Without my mom by my side, I felt like I didn’t have a place in this world. We lost everything. Every day that your family member isn’t there is painful. Think of everything you miss — we will never get that time back. My mom is my own personal superhero — she’s strong and kind-hearted. I’m so proud of her for bringing this case and playing an important role in establishing this compensation fund. Injustice often goes without consequence — you don’t usually get anything. But this feels different. It’s like my mom and I, and countless other families, might finally get closure and justice.”
In collaboration with the ACLU of Southern California and the law firm of McLane, Bednarski & Litt, Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, Inc. (CDM) is conducting media and public outreach to identify class members and encourage them to come forward with claims. CDM, a binational migrant workers’ rights organization has successfully identified class members and assisted in settlement distribution in high-profile immigration and migrant worker lawsuits. In this case, the organization will focus its efforts on reaching Spanish-speaking class members in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and California.
“This case embodies a pervasive practice: local law enforcement agencies bowing to ICE and undermining immigrants’ rights. This unconstitutional deference to ICE policies has brutal consequences for individuals, families and communities across borders,” said Evy Peña, CDM’s Communications and Development Director. “We have reason to believe that people may have been deported as a result of the L.A. Sheriff’s actions. While locating class members may pose a challenge, given the geographic range of our search, we see this as an opportunity. Every qualified class member who was treated unlawfully will be able to receive compensation, regardless of where they are.”
“Let this settlement be a wake-up call to all those law enforcement agencies around the country that today continue to jail people unlawfully at ICE’s warrantless requests,” said Jennie Pasquarella, co-counsel on the case, ACLU SoCal director of immigrants’ rights and senior staff attorney. “They should stop or be held liable in damages to all the people they’ve unlawfully detained.”
“For years, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the largest law enforcement agency in the United States, callously denied immigrants constitutional protections that universally apply to all other jail detainees — unjustifiably holding them without cause as prisoners,” said Lindsay Battles, co-counsel on the case, and an attorney with McLane, Bednarski & Litt. “This settlement holds the sheriff’s department accountable for thousands of unlawful incarcerations and provides a measure of compensation to every person injured by their unconstitutional policies.”
Individuals who believe they may be victims are encouraged to visit www.ICEHoldCaseLA.com or call 1-833-537-1192 to learn more about how to file a claim.
The answers to frequently asked questions can be found below.
Who is affected?
More than 18,500 people are entitled to compensation from the settlement covering ICE detainers issued from October 2010 to June 2014. There are 3 categories of people affected:
- 4th Amendment Class: Immigrants who were detained beyond the time they were due to be released from criminal custody solely based on an ICE hold (October 2010 – June 2014).
- Equal Protection Class: Immigrants whose bail was less than $25,000 who would not have been booked into jail if there was no ICE hold (October 2010 – June 2014).
- No-Bail Class: Immigrants who were denied bail because of an ICE hold (October 2010 – October 2012).
How much money can class members get?
Class members are eligible to receive from $250 up to $25,000, based on how long they were held and other circumstances:
- Class members who were not permitted to post bail will receive $250 if they qualify and file the proper sworn statement.
- Class members could receive up to $1,000 for each day they were detained solely on an immigration detainer, up to a maximum of $25,000.
It is anticipated that many class members who were detained solely on an immigration detainer will receive several thousand dollars.
Surplus funds, if any after class members are paid, will go to programs that provide legal representation to persons facing immigration consequences because of an arrest or conviction.
How to get money from the settlement?
To receive money, you must make a claim no later than October 10, 2021. You can file a claim online, by email or by mail. Go to www.ICEHoldCaseLA.com to learn more about how to file a claim form.
What are my other options?
Exclude Yourself: If you want to remove yourself from the lawsuit entirely, or if you want to be able to file your own lawsuit, or be part of a different lawsuit, then you must take steps to exclude yourself. You must mail your Exclusion Request, postmarked no later than October 10, 2021.
Object: You can remain a class member and object to any part of the settlement by October 10, 2021.
Do nothing: If you do not file a claim, you will not get money from the settlement, but you will still be bound by the terms of the Settlement.
Visit the website www.ICEHoldCaseLA.com for more detailed information.
How do I know my information will be kept confidential?
The parties in this case agree to keep confidential all information you submit in connection with the settlement. We will not tell ICE that you submitted a claim. Your contact information and family members’ contact information will not be disclosed to anyone other than attorneys for the plaintiffs and the case administrator.
How long will this process take?
The court has scheduled a hearing for November 19, 2021 to decide whether to approve the settlement. The motion for attorney’s fees and cost will be posted on the website after they are filed. You may attend the hearing at your own cost, but you do not have to. After final court approval, it will take at least two to three months or longer, to process claims, calculate the amount due to each class member, and begin payments.
This is only a summary. For more details, go to the website www.ICEHoldCaseLA.com or call 1-833-537-1192. The website has links to all settlement documents in this case, as well as the motion for attorneys’ fees.

QVC and HSN to Debut Over 60 New Women and Minority-Owned Brands Through the Big Find International Product Search

WEST CHESTER, Pa., Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Qurate Retail Group’s QVC® US and HSN®, leaders in building brands through livestream video storytelling across multiple platforms, today announced plans to introduce more than 90 emerging brands in apparel, accessories, beauty, culinary, home décor and innovations, and electronics throughout 2021. Two-thirds of the winning brands have self-identified as either women-owned or minority-owned, reflecting QVC and HSN’s commitment to developing a diverse and inclusive vendor community.

QVC and HSN discovered the brands through The Big Find®, the retailers’ second annual international search to discover entrepreneurs with the next big brand or unique product. Finalists met virtually with a panel of judges comprised of QVC and HSN merchandising leaders, program hosts, and brand founders from QVC and HSN established brands as well as return winners from The Big Find 2019, to prove that they have what it takes to bring their products to life to millions of QVC and HSN customers.
Twenty-three brands are expected to launch by the end of March, including Pili Ani and 54 Thrones (beauty); Nude Barre and Poppy + Sage (accessories); Pacific Northwest Cookie Company, Curly Girlz Candy and Pure Food by Estee (culinary); and Go Hang It! and The Strappee (home innovations). After seeing the increased demand specifically in categories like home decor, food, and electronics during the COVID-19 pandemic judges looked for product to address customers’ shifting needs as well as great storytellers who are authentic and passionate about their brand. Additional Big Find brands will launch throughout Q2 and through the rest of 2021.
“Each of these entrepreneurs have moved us with their remarkable personal stories and innovative products,” said Mary Campbell, Chief Merchandising Officer, Qurate Retail Group, and Chief Commerce Officer, QVC US. “We’re excited to give these emerging businesses a national stage to share their stories across multiple platforms and our team members are honored at the opportunity to provide mentorship and guidance in support of their growth. As The Big Find has shown once again, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the US, and around the world, and we know that our customers will be inspired by these new brands.”
QVC and HSN form one of the world’s largest video commerce platforms, reaching more than 90 million homes in the U.S. (380 million worldwide) via broadcast channels and millions more via streaming, web, mobile, and social platforms. The brands selected through The Big Find will have the opportunity to expand their reach and relevance and share their products directly with QVC and HSN customers, reaching them across all these platforms.
The 2020 Big Find search opened in July and received record-breaking interest and international reach, in part due to the virtual format of the pitch panel sessions. More than 2,400 entries from more than 60 countries were received. The search expanded in 2020 to include four new categories – home décor, home innovations, electronics, and culinary (including food and kitchen) – based on the success of the inaugural Big Find as well as recent growth in these categories. The five 2019 categories were also included: apparel, jewelry, accessories, footwear, and beauty.
In September, 270 finalists shared their brand stories and demonstrated their products virtually to the panel of judges. More than 100 finalists received a “Big Ticket,” an invitation to continue the product discovery process with QVC or HSN.
The brands launching this year follow the inaugural Big Find 2019 winners, including Mented Cosmetics, Sassy Jones, Cleo + Coco and Truth and Style, all of which sold out of items during their on-air premieres and continue to bring new products to QVC and HSN customers.
“Winning the Big Find has been an incredible experience and one that we are truly grateful for,” said Charis Jones, Owner of Sassy Jones, an accessories brand and 2019 Big Find Winner. “The QVC and HSN platforms have given us the ability to reach a large audience and share the story behind our brand. The connection that this creates with the customer is unique and one that you cannot find through other retail experiences. The QVC and HSN teams have welcomed us with open arms and we are excited to continue to grow our brand together.”
QVC and HSN are once again tapping the expertise of their vendor community to offer mentoring sessions for the winners of The Big Find. Founders and other leaders from such brands as Laura Geller, Peace Love World, Patricia Nash, and others are meeting with the up-and-coming entrepreneurs to answer questions, share insights, and offer coaching on live, authentic product storytelling.
The Big Find builds on QVC and HSN’s foundation of launching and fostering the growth of some of today’s most successful brands through the power of live video storytelling, discovery-driven shopping experiences, and loyal customer community-building. Qurate Retail Group recently announced the 2021 expansion of its Small Business Spotlight, a collaboration with the National Retail Federation (NRF) Foundation to support small businesses outside of the company’s vendor base. In 2021, QVC, HSN, and sister brand Zulily are providing on-air and/or digital exposure and various other pro-bono in-kind services to 100 entrepreneurs of diverse backgrounds.

Toyota to Debut Three New Electrified Vehicles for U.S. Market
PLANO, Texas, Feb. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced plans to debut in the U.S. market this year, three new electrified models – two BEVs and a PHEV.

“We continue to be leaders in electrification that began with our pioneering introduction of the Prius nearly 25 years ago,” said Bob Carter, TMNA executive vice president of sales. “Toyota’s new electrified product offerings will give customers multiple choices of powertrain that best suits their needs.”
The new electrified models further expand Toyota’s U.S. leadership in alternative powertrain vehicles. Toyota has over 40% share of the total alternative fuel vehicle market, which includes a 75% share of the fuel cell market and a 64% share of hybrids and plug-ins. By 2025, Toyota’s goal is to have 25% of new vehicle sales be electrified models, and by 2030 expects that to increase to nearly 70%.
Globally, Toyota hybrid vehicles sold have avoided an estimated 139 million tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) into the atmosphere. In the U.S., we have avoided approximately 38 million tons of GHG. This achievement is the result of Toyota’s long-standing commitment to the environment and creating a net positive impact on the planet and society.
Between now and 2025, Toyota and Lexus models, globally, will have an electrified option. Toyota is also developing a dedicated BEV platform, e-TNGA, that offers flexibility for all drive configurations. These initiatives are further steps toward achieving the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, introduced in 2015, the most demanding and most inspiring environmental commitments Toyota has ever made.
“We believe the fastest way to lower greenhouse gases in the transportation sector is to offer drivers lower carbon choices that meet their needs,” said Gill Pratt, chief scientist of Toyota Motor Corporation and CEO of Toyota Research Institute. “At every price point and with multiple powertrains, we can put more people in cleaner automobiles across North America to have the greatest near-term impact on total carbon emissions.”
Toyota shared highlights of new internal research evaluating the environmental impact and cost of ownership between a PHEV and a BEV. For this research, Toyota created a tool that shows the trade-off between GHG Emissions and Total Cost of Ownership. The source code for this tool is publicly available at carghg.org for others to experiment with the various input parameters and see the movement of BEVs and PHEVs on the GHG and cost plot. The research found:
- GHG of a currently available BEV model and PHEV model are roughly the same in on-road performance when factoring in pollutants created by electricity production for the average U.S. energy grid used to charge batteries.
- Manufacturing is a component of GHG emissions. Using the “Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Technologies” (GREET) model, researchers found that the production of a PHEV emits less GHG since it uses a smaller, lighter weight battery.
- The PHEV is much less expensive to buy and own, compared to the BEV. Without any incentives, the five-year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of a long-range BEV is significantly higher than the PHEV. If you include incentives available this year (2020), the TCO of a long-range BEV is much higher.
The key point is that a BEV and PHEV can provide similar environmental benefits. Each has a unique profile and can be an optimal solution in different circumstances. By having a diversified product portfolio with multiple forms of vehicle electrification, Toyota can let consumers choose the model that best suits their usage needs and cost profile while maximizing the total contribution to GHG reduction.
Toyota’s progress on Challenge 2050 in North America is measured across four key areas – reducing carbon emissions, conserving water, fostering a sustainable supply chain including waste reduction, and protecting biodiversity. Sustainability planning, strategies and actions are driven by an annual North American Environmental Action Plan, with a five-year roadmap modeled to achieve targets in Challenge 2050 and also the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Toyota is currently targeting:
- Reduction in CO2 from the company’s operations, products and vehicle lifecycle – including logistics, suppliers and dealers
- Reduction in overall water use per unit of vehicle production by 3% from a 2020 baseline
- Reduction of procurement of plastic packaging materials by 25% from a 2018 baseline
- Development of third party validated onsite habitat management policy by 2021 and begin implementation in 2022.
As proof of its commitment, Toyota recently agreed to purchase power from a future Clearway Energy Group wind farm to reduce its overall carbon footprint from electricity used from the power grid. Toyota also provided an annual update toward having a net positive environmental impact in the 2020 North American Environmental Report.
