LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — L.A. Care Health Plan and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan (Blue Shield Promise) have begun reopening their jointly-operated Community Resource Centers that were closed earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Select services are available by appointment only in a safe environment.

L.A. Care Health Plan and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan reopened their jointly-operated Community Resource Centers that were closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Located in Pomona, Lynwood, East L.A. and Palmdale staff on-site is ready to help with member services support, enrollment in local and state assistance programs and support finding a range of resources such as food and housing assistance. The centers also have a newly added feature: free Wi-Fi for anyone needing telehealth services. Select services are available by appointment only in a safe environment.

The four centers – located in Pomona, Lynwood, East L.A. and Palmdale –will have staff on-site to help with member services support, enrollment in local and state assistance programs and support finding a range of resources such as food and housing assistance. The centers also have a newly added feature: free Wi-Fi for anyone needing telehealth services.

Given the significant increase in demand for telehealth appointments during the pandemic – and the reality that many low-income individuals lack robust mobile data plans – L.A. Care and Blue Shield Promise are enhancing community members’ access to high-quality health care through telehealth hubs at each resource center location.

The centers are taking all precautions recommended by public health officials to ensure that we can provide services in a safe manner,” said Francisco Oaxaca, L.A. Care Chief of Communications and Community Relations. “While we have been offering virtual programming during the shutdown to help our communities be active, healthy and informed, we are excited to once again welcome individuals in person and by appointment for the personalized experience they deserve.”

The Community Resource Centers in Pomona and Lynwood are open now on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Community Resource Centers in East L.A. and Palmdale will open on October 1 with the same hours and days of operation. Safety is a top priority, so all who enter will undergo a temperature scan, all will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing, and there will be frequent cleanings.

“Many community members are in need,” said Kellie Todd Griffin, Senior Director, Community and Provider Engagement, Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan. “In safely reopening our centers, we are ensuring the community will have access to the support and services they need while navigating through this difficult time. The centers will serve as a resource where they can connect to their communities.”

The reopening of the centers is part of the two health plans’ collaboration to transition L.A. Care Family Resource Centers to a larger network of co-branded L.A. Care and Blue Shield Promise Community Resource Centers to serve more Angelenos.

Announced in September 2019, L.A Care and Blue Shield Promise are investing a combined $146 million as part of a five-year commitment to jointly operate 14 Community Resource Centers across Los Angeles County. This unique collaboration will help improve health outcomes in local communities and the quality of life for members of the two health plans. Improved health outcomes will also reduce health care costs over time.

The resource centers are open to members of the two health plans and the entire community. While it is not yet safe to resume the more robust in-person services that were offered prior to the COVID-19 pandemic – including fitness and nutrition classes – the centers offer on-demand virtual classes that everyone can find at YouTube.com/activehealthyinformed.

Two new Community Resource Centers in Metro LA (Koreatown adjacent) and El Monte are expected to open in the coming months.

Wearable Technology Could Prevent COVID-19 Complications And Death For People Recovering At Home

0
Montefiore

NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — A new study at Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine will compare the outcomes of people with COVID-19 who are monitored at home by wearable technology, to people who receive standard outpatient care. The investigators hope to determine if Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) can be used successfully to track symptoms and flag people at risk for getting severely ill, and why.

Montefiore

Jonathan D. Leff, M.D., FASE, vice chair, Faculty & Academic Affairs and chief, Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Montefiore and professor of anesthesiology and of cardiovascular & thoracic surgery, Einstein, is leading the study, which will include 150 people being monitored remotely by a team of medical professionals.

The team will keep a constant eye on participants’ health status in real-time, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels and temperature, all while watching for any signs of deterioration. Researchers will also enroll 150 people who get standard outpatient care, which consists of self-monitoring and follow-up phone calls from providers. The outcomes of the two groups will then be compared.

“We know that the majority of people with COVID-19 fare well recovering at home,” said Dr. Leff. “However, some people may not be comfortable managing their own symptoms or may not notice when their condition gets worse. Our study will help identify abnormal vital signs associated with declining health and hopefully prevent the development of life-threatening complications before it’s too late.”

To monitor participants, researchers are partnering with doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and wellness coaches at MonitorMe, a telehealth provider with experience managing complex care patients. People in the RPM group will be monitored 24 hours a day by the team, and will keep a daily diary of their symptoms, including cough and difficulty breathing. People being monitored have access to real-time support, they can consult a provider immediately and be admitted directly to the hospital, if necessary.

After patient data has been collected and the study is complete, the investigators will partner with Montefiore & Einstein’s Center for Health Data Innovations to build an algorithm that will predict which COVID-19 patients with mild or moderate disease are at risk for developing severe complications. This tool could potentially be used to identify people who would benefit from early intervention and enhanced treatment.

“While the COVID-positive testing rate in New York is around 1% right now, we can’t predict if there will be an uptick in cases during flu season,” said co-investigator Singh Nair, M.D., director, Anesthesiology Clinical Research Studies, Montefiore and assistant professor of anesthesiology, Einstein. “Our goal is to determine if wearable technologies can play a role in improving care outside the hospital and pinpoint who is most likely to suffer from COVID-19 complications. By doing so, we can be smarter about how we deploy resources and deliver the most informed care.”

About Montefiore Health System

Montefiore Health System is one of New York’s premier academic health systems and is a recognized leader in providing exceptional quality and personalized, accountable care to approximately three million people in communities across the Bronx, Westchester and the Hudson Valley. 2021 RDX Receives PMC Edition Treatment, Finished in Stunning Thermal Orange Pearl Paint

TORRANCE, California, Sept. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Acura’s top-selling SUV over the last two years gains a healthy dose of NSX supercar DNA with the creation of the 2021 RDX PMC Edition, the fourth vehicle hand assembled by master technicians at Acura’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Ohio. Only 360 units of the RDX PMC Edition will be built for the North American market, each bathed in stunning Thermal Orange Pearl paint shared with the electrified NSX supercar. The range topping RDX PMC Edition will carry a sticker price in the low $50,000s1 when the first customer deliveries begin this October.

Watch the Reveal Video: https://youtu.be/fBWGxJA2GSg

The RDX PMC Edition is the most well equipped RDX variant, combining the top-shelf features from the RDX Advance Package with the aggressive and sporty styling cues of the RDX A-Spec. Exclusive to the RDX PMC Edition are gloss black 20-inch alloy wheels; a body color grille surround; black chrome exhaust finishers; and gloss-black treatment for the roof, side mirrors and door handles. As with previous PMC Edition models, Acura’s industry leading torque vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) is standard equipment.

The RDX PMC Edition’s Thermal Orange Pearl exterior is complemented on the inside with color-matched orange stitching for the seats, center console, door panels, steering wheel and floor mats. Mixing A-Spec style with the Advance Package’s premium touches, the RDX PMC edition features a 10.5-inch color Head-Up Display, 16-way power Sport Seats trimmed in Ebony Milano leather and Ultrasuede®, heated steering wheel and heated outboard rear seats.

Bringing RDX PMC Edition to Life

The 2021 Acura RDX follows the unique formula established with the TLX and MDX PMC Edition models. Once the body-in-white arrives at PMC, each RDX PMC Edition is finished in Thermal Orange Pearl paint, a striking premium paint offered on NSX since 2019. The paint is applied using PMC’s advanced robotic paint system in multiple base coats to enhance color intensity. Next a mid-coat of gold and orange mica is applied giving off a pearlescent effect in the sunlight. Lastly, four layers of clearcoat are applied to increase the paint’s luster and protect the finish. Each PMC Edition undergoes the same meticulous hand inspection process given to the NSX. The total time in paint, including curing, is five days.

Immediately following the paint process, PMC master technicians begin hand assembly, starting with installation of all drivetrain and chassis components, wiring harnesses and electronics. Once completed, the PMC Edition 20-inch wheels and tires and exterior trim are added. The final step in the process is to fit the vehicle with its unique interior including an individually numbered serial plate affixed to the RDX’s center console.

After completing the hand assembly process, every RDX PMC Edition undergoes an identical quality control process as NSX, which includes a full electronic systems line-end test, expert wheel alignment, dyno run, water-leak test and final paint examination. Before exiting PMC, each vehicle is wrapped in a protective film and loaded onto an enclosed, single-car carrier for transport to an Acura dealer.

Gloria Eyzaguirre’s new book Huella Sur, a gripping collection of stories of ancient natives and their harrowing lives of slavery and cultural pressure

Gloria-Eyzaguirre

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia, Sept. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The book Huella Sur was created by Gloria Eyzaguirre. Gloria is an author and journalist—a writer, editor, and head of information for the newspapers Presencia, La Razón, and the weekly Pulso from Bolivia. She is also a recipient of a National Press Award and an International Literature Award.

Gloria said this about her book: “Through six stories from the geography of South America, Huella Sur collects the traces left by Europeans and Africans in their initial stage of arrival in these lands and reveals the pressure exerted on native cultures.

The love story was imagined around a painting that hangs on the walls of a cloistered convent in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia, while the brand of slaves travels through Callao and Cuzco in Peru as well as the waters of Colombia. With so many strangers and so much strangeness around, the natives (turned into Indians) entered the history of the world by force of whip and being ashamed. La Espera speaks of her constant efforts to bring back her ancestors and to remake herself. The world could look to the south side to know these signs.”

Published by Page Publishing, Gloria Eyzaguirre’s new book Huella Sur will open the readers’ eyes to the persecution of past native inhabitants whose lives were put in constant burden through enslavement.

Consumers who wish to feel the impassioned moments of the original inhabitants of South America and their dealings with foreigners can purchase Huella Sur in any bookstore online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

MOREIDOMOS’s New Book De La Gloria Al Exilio, An Uplifting Story Of A Woman’s Redemption From Exile In Life By The Grace And Mercy Of God

0
MOREIDOMOS

NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — MOREIDOMOS said this about her book: “MOREIDOMOS is a woman whose destiny was marked by abuse, contempt, and ignorance of the oppressors of her time. This is the story of a woman based on real life—of a girl who went from glory to exile without being prepared for that transition—who suffered all kinds of rejection, humiliation, poverty, and everything that many people today will be identified. But thanks to all those, she became a strong and courageous woman who, by putting her trust in God, gave a radical change to her life. Today, she lives, grateful to God for everything he did for her and not abandoning her in the most difficult times. It was her exile that led this woman to write this book to be shared with all those people who today are going through a situation similar to hers, and if this woman could get up, many could do it too.”

Published by Page Publishing, MOREIDOMOS’s new book De La Gloria al Exilio will uplift the readers’ hearts and instill wisdom within their minds on the empowering love of God that is manifested in a woman’s life during exile and oppression.

Consumers who wish to partake in the benevolence of God that ushers in salvation, peace, and victory from persecution and sorrow can purchase De La Gloria al Exilio in any bookstore or online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

  • Proudly assembled in West Point, Georgia alongside the award-winning Telluride SUV and the all-new K5 sedan.

The all-new fourth-generation Kia Sorento changes the game.  Again. Since its debut in 2002, the Sorento is one of Kia’s best-known and best-selling vehicles, becoming progressively more powerful, more attractive, better engineered and more technologically advanced in each new iteration. The 2021 model sets a new standard for Sorento’s sustained excellence and leadership in the compact SUV segment as the only vehicle in its class to offer the best estimated fuel economy for a 3-row SUV with 37 mpg combined.3

“Sorento has always been one of Kia’s premier products,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia Motors North America & Kia Motors America. “Its combination of style, utility, safety and comfort have made it a perennial customer favorite. This stunning new Sorento sets the bar in the compact SUV class even higher and represents the pinnacle of Kia design and engineering. We’re extremely proud to add it to our line-up of incredible automobiles.”

The 2021 Sorento is expected to go on sale later this year and pricing will be announced closer to its on-sale date.

A Sorento for Everyone
The 2021 Sorento will be offered in five trims: LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-Prestige and available with either FWD or AWD. Initially available with three powertrains, including a turbo hybrid, a PHEV will be introduced in the next model year. The hero model is the X-Line SX-Prestige AWD, a variant that further demonstrates the transformation of the Sorento into a more premium and tech-oriented SUV. The X-Line SX-Prestige AWD trim includes:

  • Standard torque-on-demand AWD with center locking differential and downhill descent control
  • Increased ride height to 8.3-in. (1.0-in. increase over standard ride height)
  • Exclusive bumper and exterior details, such as unique 20-inch alloy wheels and bridge-type roof rack

Stunning New Shapes
The exterior of the 2021 Sorento presents a study in stylish architectural structure defined by sharp, modern lines and accented with high-tech details – more authentic SUV than soft crossover. This evolution of Kia’s dynamic aesthetic is exemplified best in the following details:

  • Kia’s modernized “tiger nose,” with new “eyeline” DRL details and a wide grille extending into the headlight and hood structure
  • The hood edge wraps around the body side and integrates into the rear shoulder line, enhancing length and width
  • Standard LED headlamps and optional signature LED forward lighting includes daytime running lights. Headlamp and DRL modules are separated for a high-tech look
  • Strong side character line emphasizes muscular and athletic profile
  • Distinctive dynamic wave shape at base of the C pillar
  • Six different alloy wheel designs, from 17-inches to 20-inches, which is the largest ever for Sorento

The all-new interior continues the strong, solid and sophisticated sensibility of the exterior. Following a credo of “Refined Boldness,” the interior designers instilled the cabin with unexpected materials to cast a striking effect, including:

  • Bright satin finishes
  • Available metal texture inlays or open-pore wood inlays
  • Leather embossed quilt pattern on optional leather-equipped models
  • Eye-catching vertical center air vents impart a sense of strength and presence

A Strong Base to Build On
The 2021 Sorento is built on an all-new 3rd generation “N3” platform that is a lighter, stronger and more flexible design than previous models. Features include:

  • Increased wheelbase by nearly 1.4 inches for more interior space
  • Body-in-white weight is reduced by 5.6% and overall weight is reduced by 3.1% (119 lbs.)
  • Average tensile strength is improved by 4% compared to the previous Sorento

  • New aluminum bumper plate for improved durability
  • Distribution of impact kinetic energy forces through multi-load-path body structure
  • Versatility to accommodate alternate drivetrains, such as hybrid and plug-in hybrid (available in calendar year 2021)
