Fall into Healthier Eating Habits With FDA’s Nutrition Toolkit

Nutrition_Toolkit

SILVER SPRING, Md., Oct. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Apples and cranberries and pumpkins, oh my! Fall is the season of some delicious produce, but it’s also the season of favorite holiday treats. Luckily, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has made it easier than ever for you to help your audience make healthier food choices (even when it comes to fall treats). Whether you are a health educator, dietitian, or any healthcare or nutrition professional, the Health Educator’s Nutrition Toolkit: Setting the Table for Healthy Eating includes practical nutrition education tools to arm consumers with the knowledge they need to make informed food choices when they are shopping for food, eating at home, or eating out.

These ten tips can help your audience make healthy food choices year-round. For more tips, download the Health Educator’s Nutrition Toolkit.

While food shopping

1. Avoid shopping while hungry. If you shop while you’re hungry, you might buy items on impulse that are less healthy.

2. Use the Nutrition Facts label to compare foods and find what’s right for you. More often, choose items higher in dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and lower in saturated fat, trans fat, sodium, and added sugars.

3. Check the serving size when comparing calories and nutrients in different food products. Some containers may have multiple servings.

4. Use calorie information to compare products and to determine whether and how much of a food can fit within your diet.

When at home

5. Plan your meals ahead of time and make sure they include the five MyPlate food groups (fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy). The MyPlate Plan Menu template can help.

6. Instead of frying your food, try baking, broiling, grilling, or steaming it.

7. Start collecting simple, healthy recipes. The What’s Cooking USDA Mixing Bowl has lots of recipes (including some healthier treats) to help you get started.

When eating out

8. Look for calorie and nutrition information. Calorie information can be found on menus or menu boards of restaurants and other food establishments that are part of a chain of 20 or more locations. Many chain restaurants also include nutrition information online, so you can check restaurant websites for nutrition information before you go out.

9. Appetizers and side dishes can add many calories to a meal. Steamed, grilled, or broiled vegetables and fruit are often lower-calorie options. With calorie information, you can make the best choice for you.

10. When reading menus, keep an eye out for words like creamy, fried, breaded, battered, or buttered. Foods with these descriptions are typically higher in calories and saturated fat than foods described as baked, roasted, steamed, grilled, or broiled.

For more information on making healthy eating choices, visit www.fda.gov/nutritioneducation or download the Health Educator’s Nutrition Toolkit.

The Pop-Up Party Box brings the self-serve froyo experience to any occasion.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Orange Leaf is taking full advantage of the demand for off-premises food by putting a strong focus on Catering and Mobile Delivery over the past year. This year, Orange Leaf is up 68% in off-premises sales compared to 2018. Strategies to expand their online catering presence, get into schools, and elevate third-party delivery partnerships have been a driving force for this increase.

The Pop-Up Party Box brings the self-serve froyo experience to any occasion.

Orange Leaf’s catering opportunities range from simple delivery packs using their Pop-Up Party Box to full-service froyo pop-up shops. The Pop-Up Party Box is designed to make catering a simple set-up. It brings the self-serve froyo experience anywhere, anytime. “We’re focused on truly making life sweeter for any occasion whether big or small,” says President and COO, Kendall Ware. “The focus on off-premises has pushed us to be in our communities more to celebrate all occasions with our Guests.”

Additionally, two major partnerships have been influential in increasing catering opportunities for Orange Leaf stores – ezCater and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Smart Snacks Program.

At the end of 2018, Orange Leaf partnered with ezCater to support the off-premises initiative and to date, a majority of Orange Leaf locations now have their own page via ezCater to accept online orders. Orange Leaf has  a web page on orangeleafyogurt.com that serves to drive traffic to each store’s ezCater page and educate Guests on the different catering opportunities available.

The partnership with Alliance for a Healthier Generation for Smart Snacks took off early last year in response to Franchisee requests for more opportunities to be in schools. Smarts Snacks are a national nutrition standard for foods and beverages sold outside of the school lunch program. Orange Leaf now offers over 17 Smart Snack approved froyo flavors as well as 8 approved smoothies. These products are now listed on the Healthier Generation online tool, Smart Food Planner.

“These partnerships have been crucial to our off-premises success over the last year,” says Kendall. “Also building stronger relationships with the major players for Mobile Delivery – UberEats, DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates, and Favor – has allowed us to develop a strong mobile delivery strategy. Mobile Delivery continues to show incremental growth, but in some markets, it’s taking off driving over $40,000/year in additional revenue. Our goal is to continue supporting our Franchisees through this evolving Guest journey and focus additional marketing efforts around driving more off-premises sales to make life sweeter.”

Combate Americas Announces ‘Winner Take All’ Showdown For Title Belts

Combate_Americas_LLC_Tito_Alberto

NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Combate Americas, the world’s premier Hispanic Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) sports and media franchise, today announced the details as well as an unprecedented challenge for the most highly-anticipated fight of the year between legendary combat sports icons Tito Ortiz and Alberto El Patrón (formerly “Alberto Del Rio” of the WWE).

Ortiz, an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Hall of Fame member, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and pioneer of the sport, will square off with multiple-time WWE Heavyweight Champion, former Pan American Games Greco Roman wrestling medalist and former PRIDE MMA star, El Patrón, in a live, national Pay-Per-View television broadcast from Payne Arena in Hidalgo, Texas on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Priced from $30, tickets for the event go on sale on Friday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. CT at Ticketmaster.com.

It was also announced today that the two, who will face off at a 210-pound catchweight, have agreed to an unprecedented and historic “winner take all” title belt challenge.

If Ortiz emerges victorious in the bout, he will take possession of El Patrón’s WWE title belt. If El Patrón wins the fight, however, Ortiz will relinquish possession of his UFC title belt to his opponent.

“This is a one-of-a-kind, larger than life fight– one of the greatest MMA superstars of all-time, facing off with one of professional wrestling’s most decorated champions and an accomplished MMA fighter in his own right,” said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren. “On top of all that, these two legends are putting their belts where their mouths are. It’s the type of fight that comes around once or twice in a lifetime, and Combate Americas is going to deliver it to fans worldwide from the U.S.-Mexico border.”

One of the biggest pay-per-view television draws in MMA history, Ortiz of Huntington Beach, Calif. has produced some of the sport’s most memorable moments while facing off with nearly every major rival in his weight class and defeating the likes of Ryan Bader, Ken Shamrock, Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar.

Ortiz’s status in the sport has garnered him starring roles in three different hit reality television shows –The Celebrity Apprentice hosted by Donald Trump, and two different seasons of the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter.

Ortiz is coming off a first round knockout of fellow UFC Hall of Famer and former world champion Chuck Liddell in Los Angeles last November 24.

Born in San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico, into one of the most famous Lucha Libre family dynasties, El Patrón, who resides in San Antonio, Texas, has blazed a trail to superstardom in his own manner, establishing himself as a force in three different combat sports – Greco Roman wrestling, American professional wrestling and MMA.

El Patrón is the only athlete in history to win two of the WWE’s most coveted titles – the “Royal Rumble” and the “Money in the Bank” ladder match – in the same year (2011).

Competing under his Lucha Libre name, “Dos Caras, Jr.” and training under former UFC and Vale Tudo champion Marco Ruas, El Patrón crossed over into the world of MMA, where he fought under the promotion of the former number one MMA franchise in the world, PRIDE, and earned all of his career victories by way of (T)KO or submission.

El Patrón announced last October that he had returned to MMA training and was intent on competing for Combate Americas.

He has since re-located for training camp to Glendale, Ariz., the home of former UFC star and fellow Mexican American Javier “Chunty Boy” Torres‘ MMA camp, where El Patrón has been preparing for his MMA return with former Ortiz opponent Bader as well as with former UFC star and NCAA Division I All-American wrestler C.B. Dollaway, among others.

Since launching its live event series in 2015, Combate Americas has catapulted to the top of the food chain in the sport of MMA, consistently beating the television ratings of general market competitors in the U.S., and amassing millions of television viewers regularly across Latin America and Spain.

Combate Americas live television programming has also attracted almost an entirely new audience to the sport. According to Nielsen research produced this year, over 90 percent of Combate Americas’ television audience in the U.S. is comprised of viewers that do not watch general market MMA programming.

ABOUT COMBATE AMERICAS
Combate Americas is the premier Hispanic Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) sports franchise, rapidly becoming the number two sport after soccer, for Spanish speaking fans worldwide. The Combate Americas franchise includes live event and original shoulder programming on some of the biggest television, OTT and digital platforms in Spanish and English, including Univision and Univision Deportes Network (UDN), DAZN, ESPN, GOL, Pluto TV and Facebook Watch worldwide. The company also owns and operates a multi-platform media studio, La Jaula Studios. This event is not sponsored or affiliated with WWE or UFC.

Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren, also the co-founder/co-creator of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has been described by New York Magazine as “the marketing genius behind the UFC,” while Yahoo Sports has said he “knows more about the sport than just about anyone in it today.” With an unprecedented and cutting edge product and a blue-chip ownership and management team, Combate Americas is poised to break new ground and bring about a new era in world championship level MMA competition.

From Oscar® Winners Alex Gibney And Steven Spielberg, Discovery en Español’s Timely New Series ¿POR QUÉ ODIAMOS? Debuts Globally Sunday, October 13

0

MIAMI, Oct. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Throughout history, hate and conflict have been part of the human experience. From horrific extremes such as the Holocaust or the Rwandan genocide, when hate has fueled mass destruction, to everyday incidents like playground bullying or malicious trolling on social media, hate shapes our lives in myriad ways. And while all humans have the capacity to hate, few understand what sparks it and transforms it into a destructive force.

Executive produced by filmmaking heavyweights Alex Gibney and Steven Spielberg and directed by Geeta Gandbhir and Sam Pollard (Emmy® winners for “When The Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts”), ¿POR QUÉ ODIAMOS? explores one of humanity’s most primal and destructive emotions – hate. At the heart of this timely series is the notion that if people begin to understand their own minds, they can find ways to work against hate and keep it from spreading. The six-part series will begin airing on Sunday, October 13 at 10pm E/P on Discovery en Español, with additional episodes airing each subsequent Sunday.

State Gibney and Spielberg, “Getting to the root of the human condition is something not only fascinating, but necessary in understanding who we are. This is not a series that just documents something that’s happening; it’s an inquiry – an attempt to understand why we hate, through the science, and through an understanding of our common humanity. Hate is in our DNA. If we understand why we act the way we do, we can change the way we act. That is what we are uniquely capable of as human beings.”

Drawing on cutting-edge journalism, deep historical investigations and ground-breaking research in psychology, biology, and neuroscience, ¿POR QUÉ ODIAMOS? traces the evolutionary basis of hatred and its powerful impact on individuals and societies throughout human history. The science behind the behavior is a powerful tool to help us understand what drives conflict, enabling people to have real, tough conversations about these issues and behaviors.

Helping to unpack these complex issues in each episode are experts including cognitive scientist Laurie Santos, evolutionary anthropologist Brian Hare, journalist and author Jelani Cobb, extremism expert Sasha Havlicek, international criminal lawyer Patricia Viseur Sellers, and neuroscientist Emile Bruneau.

¿POR QUÉ ODIAMOS? works to contextualize the many instances of hate in everyday life: the violent rivalries that erupt at sports matches, the hateful rhetoric that runs rampant on social media, and the heated disagreements that flare up over political partisanship, race, religion, and social beliefs. The series follows brave individuals seeking to quell violent conflict and correct misperceptions, hears from former terrorists and architects of genocide, and allows viewers to consider lessons from some of the most brutal and enduring examples of hate throughout the world.

The series also highlights the personal stories of those who have lived a life of hatred, including a lifelong member of a hate group whose childhood memories “are of standing on a picket line telling people they were going to hell.” The series encounters people whose beliefs led them to commit acts of hate so severe they ended up in jail, but who managed, finally, to disengage from those ideologies. Along the way, it reveals contemporary links to ancient and evolutionary behaviors and uses science as a basis for unlocking the truth about hatred and human nature.

¿POR QUÉ ODIAMOS? is an Amblin Television and Jigsaw Productions in association with Escape Artists for Discovery Channel. Directed by Geeta Gandbhir and Sam Pollard. The series is executive produced by Alex Gibney, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Stacey Offman, Richard Perello, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, David McKillop, Jon Bardin, Yael Melamede, and Erica Sashin. For Escape Artists: executive producer, Steve Tisch; For Discovery Channel: executive producers, Nancy Daniels and Howard Swartz.

Zillow Offers Now Live in Sacramento

0

SACRAMENTO and SEATTLE, Oct. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Selling a home is often a complicated, time-consuming process. Starting today, home sellers in Sacramento can skip the work of preparing their home for sale and instead sell directly to Zillow through Zillow Offers. The program is also available to California residents in Riverside and San Diego.

Homeowners interested in selling their home directly to Zillow can simply enter their address on Zillow’s website or mobile app, answer a few basic questions about their home, and if their home qualifies, they will receive an initial cash offer from Zillow within 48 hours. With Zillow Offers, sellers don’t need to make any binding decisions until after their home has been evaluated in person.

If the seller accepts Zillow’s offer, they get to pick a close date that fits their timeline, anywhere from seven to 90 days out, pack up and move without dealing with cleaning or making repairs themselves like they would to sell traditionally.

After buying a home, Zillow works with local contractors to make necessary updates to ensure the home is move-in ready for the next owner, taking care of projects like a fresh coat of paint or basic landscaping, so the new owners can focus on settling into their new home.

Homeowners interested in selling their home directly to Zillow can check their eligibility by entering their address into Zillow.com. Zillow has dedicated support from English and Spanish-speaking representatives to help sellers through the process.

“Selling a home is hard, and managing the work it takes to prepare it for sale and host showings or open houses can feel like a full-time job,” said Zillow Brand President Jeremy Wacksman. “With Zillow Offers, we do that work for you. We’re really excited to bring this service to the California state capital today and take the friction out of a stressful experience.”

Not knowing the final sale price or when their home would sell was stressful for most sellers, according to a Zillow survey1. Selling through Zillow Offers eliminates these concerns, because the seller knows how much money they will walk away with, and they set the closing date.

Consumers using Zillow Offers – whether they are selling to or buying from Zillow – can experience an even simpler real estate transaction if they decide to get financing from Zillow’s owned affiliate lender, Zillow Home Loans, to get pre-approved and purchase their next home.

Zillow Offers first launched in Phoenix in 2018 and is currently available in Las Vegas, Atlanta, Denver, Charlotte, N.C., Raleigh, N.C., Houston, Riverside, Calif., Dallas, Minneapolis, Orlando, Fla., Portland, Ore., Colorado Springs, Colo., Fort Collins, Colo., Nashville, Tenn., Miami, San Diego, Austin and San Antonio.

Zillow has also announced plans to bring Zillow Offers to Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Fla., Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, Tampa, Fla. and Tucson, Ariz. by the middle of 2020.

A Sacramento-based broker will represent Zillow in each transaction. Home sellers who request a Zillow offer but decide to instead sell their home traditionally can also be connected to a local real estate agent to guide them through the process.

When Debt is the Problem, We are the Solution...

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, Oct. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — During the holidays, reducing consumer debt is top of mind at Consolidated Credit. To help consumers stay out of debt they are hosting a series of webinars on the second Wednesday of October, November and December. Each financially focused event starts at 1:00 P.M. (EST), and registration is now open to the public.

When Debt is the Problem, We are the Solution...

The first webinar, Holiday Gift Giving: Survive the Holidays without Stressing Your Finances, is focused on helping consumers to strategize and plan for the holiday season. This webinar will discuss topics such as how to find the best travel deals, “holiday etiquette” and creative saving tips. The goal is to help consumers set a budget that avoids credit card debt during what’s typically the most expensive time of year for most families.

November’s webinar is all about getting through Thanksgiving weekend, without falling victim to the typical stress of America’s busiest shopping weekend. Attendees will learn how to set a plan that helps them save their money, time and sanity. They’ll learn how to prep, save and shop for a Thankful Thanksgiving. Special events such as Friendsgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday will all be covered.

“Consumers also encounter retailers offering Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals – legit or not – on days around the actual sale days,” explains April Lewis-Parks, Education Director for Consolidated Credit. “Last year, retailers started offering Black Friday door busters up to one week prior to Thanksgiving, so in these cases there would be little incentive to shop on the traditional days and go earlier to get the same deals without fighting a crowd.”

The last webinar of the year held December 11th will feature a list of Hot Tips and Tops Gifts for the Holidays.  A holiday spending and savings guide will be featured in this presentation, and consumers can learn how to avoid credit card scams while landing those last-minute holiday deals.

About: Consolidated Credit has helped over 6.5 million people over the last 26 years overcome debt and financial challenges. Their mission is to assist families throughout the United States to end financial crises and solve money management issues through education and counseling.
