WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Nov. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Gran Cine, Olympusat’s commercial-free contemporary Spanish-language network announced the addition of two comedic movie premieres from Argentina and Chile.

On Nov. 4 at 10 p.m. EST, fans from all over the country will have the opportunity to tune into El Muerto Cuenta su Historia, a sensual comedy that blends suspense, horror and action. Then on Nov. 25 at 10 p.m. EST, Gran Cine will feature the network premiere of El Derechazo, a political comedy that portrays a satirical interpretation of the 2013 Chilean presidential elections, the year in which the two major candidates were women. Directed by Lalo Prieto, El Derechazo features acclaimed performances by renowned Chilean actors Diego Muñoz, Isidora Urrejola and Marcial Tagle.

“We are excited to add such fast-paced and entertaining comedies to our powerful lineup of Spanish and Latin American movies,” stated Jesús Piñango, Director of TV Content Strategy at Olympusat. “This month, we are celebrating empowered women, showcasing two films featuring strong female leads, including a Chilean comedy based on the year two women vied to become president of one of the healthiest economies in Latin America.”

1 in 5 Latinos in the U.S. are Unpaid Family Caregivers; AARP and the Ad Council Offer Support in New PSA Campaign

0
Ad_Council_Logo

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Nearly seven million Latinos in the U.S. provide unpaid care to an aging or older loved one. Many Latino family caregivers see caregiving responsibilities simply as something family members do for one another, and do not seek outside help. AARP and the Ad Council offer support with a new PSA campaign, encouraging Latino caregivers nationwide to access free Care Guides, self-care tips, planning resources, legal and financial guidance, and more.

Experience the interactive Multichannel News Release here: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/8439551-ad-council-aarp-latino-family-caregivers-psa/

“Juggling work, personal and caregiving responsibilities can be highly stressful, often putting caregivers at risk for depression, anxiety and heart disease and financial challenges,” said Yvette Pena, AARP Vice President of Multicultural Leadership, Latino Audience Strategy. “It’s vital that Latino families not only recognize the role of family caregivers, but also have access to culturally relevant resources and support.”

Six in 10 family caregivers juggle caregiving responsibilities with full- or part-time jobs. That rate is even higher among Latino caregivers: nearly seven in 10 work an average of 36 hours per week outside the home, and one in four provide more than 40 hours of care each week. Family caregivers spend an average of $6,954 a year — nearly 20 percent of their income — on out-of-pocket costs related to caregiving. Latino and low-income family caregivers spend even more with an average of $9,022, representing 44 percent of their total income per year.

“Caregivers dedicate so much of their time, energy and their hearts to making someone else’s life better. They’re an inspiration,” said Lisa Sherman, Ad Council President and CEO. “By bringing these incredible partners together to make such beautiful work, we can reach caregivers across the country to help them access the support they need and deserve.”

The new PSA campaign, created pro bono by the multicultural ad agency ALMA, reminds caregivers that getting support helps them provide the best care for their loved one — who, in many cases, once cared for them as a child. The TV spots depict poignant scenes of a father being a “hero” for his young daughter, and conclude with the line, “Your hero needs you now. And AARP is here to help.” The PSAs encourage viewers to visit AARP’s Family Caregiving Website at aarp.org/caregiving and aarp.org/cuidar.

“It is a real privilege for us at ALMA to develop the second iteration of the Caregiver Assistance campaign,” said Luis Miguel Messianu, CEO and Creative Chairman of ALMA. “‘Caregiving’ is part of our DNA and being able to flex the muscle of our emotional storytelling style on behalf of this cause is a real gift! We are extremely proud of this body of work.”

AARP and the Ad Council’s Caregiver Assistance campaign has garnered more than 30 million site visits and received more than $230 million in donated media since 2012. This is the second round of creative to focus on Latino caregivers; past efforts have also focused on general market, African-American, and male caregivers.

The Ad Council will distribute the PSAs to broadcast, radio, print, outdoor, and digital media outlets nationwide, where they will run exclusively in donated time and space, per the Ad Council’s model. Social media creative will also soon debut on Facebook, courtesy of Facebook’s donated media support for the Ad Council.

Aguacates Frescos – Saborea Uno Hoy® Launches Free Bilingual Wallet-Size Guide With Tips To Help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes During National Diabetes Awareness Month

0
Guide Shows How Fresh Avocados May Help Reduce the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

MISSION VIEJO, Calif., Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — To kick off National Diabetes Awareness Month, Aguacates Frescos-Saborea Uno Hoy unveils a free, printable, wallet-size guide designed to share tips and inspiration on how healthy and delicious fresh avocados with their good source of fiber can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, as part of a diet rich in healthy foods containing fiber. With diabetes at epidemic levels amongst U.S. Hispanics, the resource is now available in English and Spanish at SaboreaUnoHoy.com/diabetescard to empower easy access to insights on how good nutrition promotes healthy living and can lower risk factors. Health professionals can also request hard copies for their patients.

Guide Shows How Fresh Avocados May Help Reduce the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

The CDC predicts that more than 50% of all Hispanics will develop type 2 diabetes during their lifetime and points to modest weight loss as helpful to prevent or delay the disease by nearly 60% in people at risk (prediabetes).1

“There is a high percentage of obesity among U.S. Hispanics,2 creating a high risk for type 2 diabetes. Access to free resources like this in Spanish and English is a big benefit for families and health care providers,” said Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, registered dietitian and Aguacates Frescos – Saborea Uno Hoy spokesperson. “A winning strategy in the fight against diabetes is to educate that every bite counts. Smart choices like fresh avocados are delicious, filling and help keep us healthy.”

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans emphasizes making small dietary shifts to work towards an overall healthy eating pattern since changing eating habits can be hard. Easy to print, fold and keep handy, the colorful guide helps keep top-of-mind that delicious options like fresh avocados are good sources of fiber, adding bulk to a diet and promoting feeling fuller faster. Healthy and versatile, avocados are also cholesterol- and sodium-free and fit in a reduced-calorie diet when eaten in place of other fats.

People at risk for diabetes and people already with diabetes also need to watch their blood sugar levels. Avocados are a delicious, sugar-free addition to any meal. And a recent study published in the Nutrition Journal and funded by the Hass Avocado Board found that simply adding or substituting one-half of an avocado at mealtime may help weaken the rise in insulin 30 minutes after eating.3 In the study, 26 healthy overweight adults enjoyed a lunch either without avocado, with avocado added, or with avocado substituted for other meal components. Researchers found that the peak rise in insulin levels 30 minutes after the start of the meal with avocado substituted was significantly weakened (37 percent) compared to eating a meal without avocado. And, blood insulin remained significantly lower for the next 3 hours. When one-half of an avocado was simply added to the meal, the peak rise in insulin levels was significantly weakened by 22 percent. The results provide promising clues and a basis for future research to determine avocados’ effect on glucose and insulin response.

Taxpayer Advocate Service Announces Launch Of Tax Reform Website In Spanish; Focuses On Helping Taxpayers As Tax Season Approaches

0

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) today announced the launch of Cambios en la Reforma de Impuestos, the Spanish-language version of the Taxpayer Advocate Service’s recently launched Tax Reform Changes website. The site was created to assist Spanish-speaking taxpayers as the new filing season draws near.

Cambios en la Reforma de Impuestos is unique in that it addresses the most common 2017 IRS Form 1040, US Individual Income Tax Return topics on a line-by-line basis and whether the tax law has changed or not. Site users can simply select a specific line on the IRS Form 1040, or select a certain topic of interest, to view explanations and scenarios describing how the new law may impact them.

Visitors to the site can also sign up to receive email notifications in Spanish or English as the website is updated with new tax law information. The site is updated frequently and many new topics have been added since the English-language version of the site was launched earlier this year.

GOAL OF SPANISH-LANGUAGE SITE IS TO SUPPORT EVEN MORE TAXPAYERS

In light of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA), TAS launched the website to help taxpayers understand how the new tax law may change their future tax filings and help them prepare for the changes. Tax Reform Changes lists key tax return items under current law (2017), shows which ones have been impacted by the TCJA, and illustrates how the changes will be reflected on tax year 2018 returns filed in 2019.

“With the tax season quickly approaching, TAS wants to make sure as many taxpayers as possible understand how the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act law may change their tax filings and help them plan for these changes,” said Nina Olson, National Taxpayer Advocate (NTA).

Taxpayers, businesses or associations involved in helping Spanish-speaking taxpayers are encouraged to visit the site and then spread the word about Cambios en la Reforma de Impuestos to others who may find it helpful. Anyone seeking to understand federal income taxes and the ramifications of tax law changes in Spanish will find the information useful.

SPANISH-LANGUAGE VERSION OF SITE WILL EXPAND ACCESS TO INFORMATION

The new site is mobile-friendly and is designed so everyone can easily see what items have and have not been changed. Just in time for the upcoming tax season, the site describes how the new changes that took effect for 2018 will be reflected on individual tax returns filed in early 2019. The site is beneficial to everyone who either files a tax return, helps others to file taxes in some way, or even those who provide financial advice based on the changing tax laws. A preview of the site is available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAvN80VjWuA.

In addition, the Taxpayer Advocate Service website has detailed information and products, in Spanish, related to the new site, along with a Spanish-language article that describes Cambios en la Reforma de Impuestos and its importance. Tax professionals can use the article to promote the site as a valuable resource to their Spanish-speaking clients.

The IRS is still in the process of issuing guidance on some tax reform issues. The website has been designed to incorporate updated information as it becomes available. So you, your family, friends, and other taxpayers can sign up to receive alerts to stay informed of new tax reform information as it is added. Simply select the purple Subscribe button at the top of the site.

PayJoy Raises $20 Million In Debt Financing From Arc Labs To Bring Smartphones And Credit To The Underbanked In Mexico

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Today PayJoy, a company leading credit access in emerging markets via smartphone financing, signs a $20 million debt-financing deal with Arc Labs, a venture partner to innovative companies serving the underbanked. PayJoy’s patented, pay-as-you-go financing system helps consumers with not only mobile device financing, but also unsecured lending, by using a customer’s phone for underwriting data and as collateral. PayJoy will use the funding from Arc Labs to spread financial inclusion and alternative financing options nationwide in Mexico.

PayJoy invented pay as you go mobile financing with its proprietary Checkout tool which underwrites the underbanked, and Lock technology which blocks access to apps on a phone, except for emergency calls, when a customer does not make a payment.

PayJoy is taking the entry point to economic inclusion with a smartphone one step further by inventing the phone equity line: after paying-off a smartphone with PayJoy, they often qualify for an additional $100 loan collateralized by the device.  Also, paid up underbanked customers usually attain an average credit score of 615 points, enough to apply and get approved for a credit card. PayJoy therein establishes a process to create financial identities and entrance to the formal financial sector for the base of the pyramid worldwide.

“We’re excited to be partnering with PayJoy, and believe their unique technology will democratize access to smartphones by providing financing to borrowers previously excluded from the banking system,” said James Sagan, Arc Labs Managing Partner. “We’re honored to be working with the entire PayJoy team in achieving this important mission.”

PayJoy plans to make its credit access ubiquitous in Mexico, where it currently offers its own monthly payment plans and third-party licensing in 31 out of 32 states and 1600 active merchants. The funding will help close the final gap in Mexico where 60 percent of the population lacks a bank account and only 13 percent have established credit.

“Fundraising is truly one of the hardest aspects of our business. You need to find the right investor, and that is often not only one who is comfortable with our metrics and Internal Rate of Return (IRR), but also one that shares the company’s mission,” said Mauricio Cordero, General Manager, Latin America. “We found that partner in Arc Labs and hope we can continue growing together and creating synergies for many years.”

PayJoy maintains the long-term goal of reaching 1 billion people in emerging markets. PayJoy is a team of 75 people with premier tech and lending experience from Stanford, MIT, Wharton, Google, Facebook, Amazon, PIMCO, McKinsey, Prosper, and Merrill Lynch. This year, the tree includes new lighting and décor, with 3,500 multi-color lights, 1,500 Victorian-inspired ornaments and 100 faux candles that range from 12 to 22 inches tall.
  • Disneyland guests definitely will want to experience the popular seasonal transformations of these park attractions:

    • Haunted Mansion becomes Haunted Mansion Holiday,* with Jack Skellington and his friends from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” causing a collision between Christmas and Halloween.
