NEW YORK, Dec. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Latino Impact Summit, whose second edition was held at the United Nations, this Wednesday announced that it will work with the Scholas Occurrentes educational program, created by Pope Francis.

Scholas Occurrentes is an international public interest entity that has worked with schools and communities since 2001, implementing the culture of encounters for peace through education.

At the UN, those attending the largest annual Latin summit planted the Olive Tree for Peace, the symbol of the activities of Scholas Occurrentes worldwide.

Ismael Cala, president of the foundation of the same name, and co-sponsor of the Latin Impact Summit, praised the activities of Scholas and of Pope Francis. He also said that the first Latin American Pope “breaks paradigms and encourages cross-disciplinary leadership that impacts the world beyond just Catholics.”

“We Latinos are proud of the Pope’s humility, service, and example,” Cala added.

Sergio Fernández de Córdova, president of the PVBLIC Foundation, announced that the third edition of the event in 2018 will be dedicated to Mexico, although matters pertinent to the entire continent will be discussed.

The “Latino Impact Summit allowed us once again to confirm that together we can increase our impact, and that the road to development in the region is paved by alliances. Next year we hope to celebrate major results from the commitments acquired, and that the alliances that were made will help us progress in fulfilling the 2030 Sustainable Development agenda,” Fernández de Córdova, the main event organizer added.

In the United Nations the Latino Impact Summit debated alliances for the progress of Latin America as part of the Sustainable Development Objectives, which is a global call to adopt measures against poverty, to protect the planet and to ensure that everyone enjoys peace and prosperity.

During the summit singer, actress and Mexican businesswoman Thalía received the Latino Impact Summit 2017 Award for her humanitarian work.

Also recognized was Cuban-American businessman Carlos Gutiérrez, president of Albright Stonebridge Group and the former Secretary of Commerce of the United States, who received the Award for Latin American Excellence for promoting economic relationships and contributing to eliminating commercial barriers.

“To help our people, we must get it into our heads that it is not enough to be represented. We Latinos want to be leaders, to manage people. I will continue doing my part so that these generations of Latinos have opportunities in the United States,” said the former official in the George W. Bush administration.

ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — An exciting, hotel-wide refurbishment brings new magic to the deluxe Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at the Disneyland Resort, with completely redesigned guest rooms plus a refreshed lobby, pool area and concierge-level lounge. The most extensive refurbishment since the hotel’s 2001 opening elevates the premium guest experience and brings a contemporary approach to the Arts & Crafts design style.

To commemorate the occasion, an emblematic orange tree was presented to the hotel’s cast. Completely redesigned guest rooms plus a refreshed lobby, pool area and concierge-level lounge were part of the most extensive refurbishment since the hotel’s 2001 opening. (Disneyland Resort)

Named a AAA Four Diamond hotel by the Automobile Club of Southern California for the sixteenth year in a row, the 948-room Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the first Disney resort hotel in the world to be located inside a theme park.

“Our renovation brings an even more upscale experience to this iconic Southern California hotel, while staying committed to its signature Arts & Crafts design,” said Dan Coleman, General Manager of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. “We want our guests to enjoy the unique experience of staying in a Disney hotel that’s distinctly situated in beautiful California. The revitalized design helps convey this feeling and allows us to continue exceeding guest expectations.”

Guest Rooms

Every single element in the redesigned guest rooms is new—from flooring and walls, to furnishings and bathrooms. Upon entry, guests will notice beautiful hardwood-inspired flooring transitioning into soft, bright-toned carpeting. Linens and pillows are restyled in a bright, white palette and upgraded bathrooms include new fixtures. The room decor features all-new furniture made of quarter-sawn oak, specially designed for each room, as well as California-inspired artwork.

The headboards are made of quarter-sawn oak, a hallmark of Craftsman design, which frame a blossoming orange tree mural overhead—with mischievous Chip n’ Dale playing in the branches. When guests open the sleeper bed (available in select rooms), artwork of Bambi, along with other woodland creatures, bid them goodnight.

Countertops of the room’s desk, dresser and coffee station incorporate pieces of green glass from wine bottles, creating a beautiful, unique surface. Above the coffee bar, textured copper detailing adds depth to the aesthetic of the room while enforcing the Craftsman story.

Lastly, all rooms are powered with the latest technological features and premium amenities, including 55-inch smart TVs, Keurig coffee makers and built-in USB chargers. In addition, many rooms offer breathtaking views of Disney California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney District, the lively avenue with unique restaurants, interesting shops and dynamic entertainment venues.

Great Hall Lobby

The already stunning six-story Great Hall lobby has been upgraded with new, stylish furnishings and design elements. To complement the existing Arts and Crafts motif, new contemporary designs can be found throughout the furniture pieces, upholstery, woodwork and carpeting.

Custom tete-a-tete chairs provide interesting design and function, while boldly upholstered sofa and chair pairings offer a comfortable, welcoming setting. Coffee tables and lamp fixtures nicely complement the space, and leather-topped stools showcase hidden Mickey details. The redesigned space is perfect for lounging with family, relaxing with a glass of wine from the Hearthstone Lounge, or simply admiring the lobby’s focal point—the cavernous fireplace and its roaring fire.

The Veranda

The concierge-level lounge has a new name—The Veranda—and a new design that draws inspiration from the architectural and furniture designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a visionary of the Arts & Crafts movement in Glasgow, United Kingdom. New hardwood flooring, custom-designed rugs, finely-crafted artisanal furniture and specially-commissioned art adds to the sophisticated tone of the lounge. Club-level guests may enjoy complimentary refreshments, as well as views of park fireworks in this exclusive setting.

Pool Deck

Each of the three pools have been redesigned with a variety of natural stones and brick to not only create a warm and welcoming environment, but also define the distinct pool settings. In keeping with the Arts and Crafts style of the hotel, the stone work was hand-laid by master stone masons.

Disney’s Grand California Hotel & Spa is located inside Disney California Adventure Park, providing guests with a special entrance to the theme park. Food and beverage options at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel include the award-winning Napa Rose, as well as character dining at Storytellers Cafe and the cozy Hearthstone Lounge. Guests staying at Disneyland Resort hotels also enjoy Extra Magic Hour*, which provides early entry to select Disneyland or Disney California Adventure attractions (valid theme park ticket and active hotel room key required).

*Extra Magic Hour valid for registered Disneyland® Resort Hotel Guests for admission to select attractions at either Disneyland® Park or Disney California Adventure® Park before the applicable Park opens to the general public. Check Disneyland.com for schedule of when each Park offers Extra Magic Hour. Applicable Theme Park, days and times of operation and attraction and service availability may vary and are subject to change without notice. The new Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford opens its doors December 9

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford

PALO ALTO, California, Dec. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Over a decade in the making, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is just days away from opening its new Main building and grounds on December 9.  The hospital reached the final step to announcing an opening date when it received its license from the California Department of Public Health on December 4. Designed to transform the patient and family experience, the new 521,000-square-foot building more than doubles the size of the existing pediatric and obstetric hospital campus. The new building adds 149 patient beds for a total of 361 on the Palo Alto campus, enabling the hospital to serve more patients than ever before and allowing it to deploy awaited renovation plans for the existing hospital building.

Photo – http://mma.prnewswire.com/media/616007/Lucile_Packard_Childrens_Hospital_Stanford__ribbon_cutting.jpg

Patient move day takes place on a Saturday, when the weekly census is at its lowest. More than 100 pediatric patients will be moved from the existing hospital (now called the West building) across to the new Main building and into new acute patient care units and pediatric and cardiovascular intensive care units.

“Hundreds of staff have prepared for months and months for this day, when this new building becomes part of our working hospital,” said Christopher G. Dawes, president and CEO of the hospital and Stanford Children’s Health.

To run the new building, the hospital hired more than 500 new staff members in positions ranging from nursing to food and housekeeping service roles.

Features
Along with the patient care units, bridge corridors connecting the new Main building with the West building will also open on December 9, along with the Dunlevie Garden, the new Harvest Café, the Family Resource Center and the Story Corner.

The new Imaging Center features some of the most state-of-the-art technology in the hospital, including a PET/MRI that combines two important types of imaging technologies, PET (positron emission tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). This combined modality, the only PET/MRI exclusively dedicated to pediatric patients in Northern California, allows physicians to see how diseases are behaving in the body, monitor the effects of treatment and craft treatment plans to cater to the patient’s needs. This technology also shortens the time of study and significantly decreases the radiation dose delivered to the patient by close to 80 percent. The imaging center is part of a larger Treatment Center that encompasses surgery, radiology, imaging, interventional, catheterization labs and nuclear medicine. The surgical suites and neuro-interventional and catheterization labs are still under construction and are slated to open mid-year 2018.

Ongoing construction
According to Dawes, the patient move day marks a significant milestone, but it is one of many to come over the next several years as construction continues on parts of the Main building and awaited renovations kick off in the West building. The Surgery Center will have six new operating suites which will make a total of 13 in the hospital. In the neuro-hybrid surgery suite, care teams will have access to intraoperative MRI technology and angiography equipment that allows them to image a patient in the operating room during neurosurgery to ensure successful removal of a tumor before they close the surgical site. This technology improves efficiency and increases safety by reducing the time that children spend under anesthesia, and it also decreases the total amount of time the patient spends in the hospital, which translates to lower patient costs.

Within the West building, design plans are currently underway for renovating the existing Johnson Center for Pregnancy and Newborn Services to create the Bay Area’s premier mother and baby center, including a brand-new postpartum unit and a redesign of the neonatal intensive care units. By the end of 2018 all obstetric postpartum beds will be converted into private rooms. While expectant mothers and babies will not be moving into the new Main building, those patients and their families will still have access to the new building’s amenities, including the Harvest Café, gardens, Family Resource Center and Sanctuary.

The Bass Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases, which includes an inpatient unit and an outpatient infusion center, will stay in the West building while its future home on the fifth floor of the Main building is under construction. A new space dedicated to the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Outpatient Heart Center is also under construction on the Main building’s first floor. Both new centers are slated for completion in 2019.

Patients and families who visit the hospital as outpatients will receive instructions from their providers on where to report for appointments after the December 9 opening date.

Anticipating LEED designation
An anticipated milestone that will be announced soon after the December opening is the building’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. Lead architect Robin Guenther, a principal with architectural firm Perkins + Will who worked in association with Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc., estimates Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford will be one of the most sustainable children’s hospitals in the nation.

“Sustainability and environmental consciousness are seamlessly woven into the experience of the building — from energy and water use dashboards and salvaged local redwood to harmonious integration of outdoor nature experiences.”

Features include water-efficient landscaping and water collection systems that are expected to save 800,000 gallons of water annually. Innovative ventilation and shading systems will contribute to a 60 percent reduction in thermal energy usage compared to similar hospitals in the region. The project is targeting a LEED Gold designation.

“Reflecting Northern California’s commitment to environmental sustainability was an integral part in the new hospital’s design,” said Dawes.

Cutting the ribbon
On November 30, nearly 300 leaders from the hospital and Stanford University, elected officials, community partners, and members of the donor community gathered in the Main building’s lobby for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dawes spoke at the ceremony, along with several key stakeholders, including Susan Packard Orr, vice chair of the hospital’s Board of Directors and daughter of the hospital’s founder, Lucile Packard; Stanford University President Marc Tessier-Lavigne, PhD; and Dean of the School of Medicine Lloyd Minor, MD. Several patients’ families who have had storied experience with Packard Children’s were also present to see the new facility and help cut the ribbon, including the Watson family, whose daughter, Effy, now six years old, was treated at Packard Children’s for acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of two.

“To say this place is extraordinary would be an understatement. The people that work inside these walls saved my daughter’s life and made us feel like part of their family,” Jennifer Watson said during her address at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “To the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers, I am so happy that you have a new home in which to continue your amazing work of healing and saving lives.”

Latin2Latin Marketing + Communications Romances its Way to Unprecedented Growth and Lands U.S. AOR assignment for Ana G. Mendez University System, among others

L2L Marketing Team

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Award-winning agency, Latin2Latin Marketing + Communications, (L2L), has much to celebrate as 2017 winds down, including double-digit expansion, a 10th anniversary and being named the U.S. agency of record (AOR) for Ana G. Méndez University System (AGMUS), a pioneer and leader in dual-language education with campuses in Orlando, Tampa, South Florida, Dallas and Maryland, as well as a culinary school in Washington, D.C.

L2L Marketing Team

L2L has gained an outstanding reputation connecting brands, talent, business, communities, government and media partners to create winning solutions. The company has experienced exponential growth, reporting a 52 percent increase in new client signings since 2016. The company’s founder and president, Arminda “Mindy” Figueroa, credits much of the success to her team’s laser-focused mission to “romance clients at every turn,” a paradigm shift in how traditional marketing agencies view and work with their clients.

“We’ve made a conscious and concentrated effort to be different, to internalize our clients’ fears and goals, and make them our own,” said Figueroa. “We develop quick-to-market engagement solutions based on insights that drive growth and ROI.”

Other high-profile clients recently joining the Agency include Trustbridge Hospice, Latinarrific, Novus Shoes, GYM GUYZ Fort Lauderdale, Elements Massage Fort Lauderdale, The Surgery Center at Doral, Dr. Doggie-Victor Oppenheimer, MARC Institute and South Florida Symphony Orchestra. These are in addition to existing partners, including Badia Hand to Shoulder Center, Hispanic Unity, Northwell Health-Lenox Hill Hospital, OrthoNOW Orthopedic Urgent Care Center and PBS Kids.

L2L embarks on a further expansion of services by acting as the U.S. marketing arm of Puerto Rican and Latin American corporations and organizations seeking expertise in the United States. As the AOR for AGMUS in the United States, L2L is responsible for building awareness and driving enrollment for both the university and its unique dual-language model of higher education. The Agency’s first campaign, entitled, Tu Tienes Valor (You Have Courage / Worth), hit the market earlier this year.

“From the first meeting with Latin2Latin, we were very impressed with their keen ability to internalize our goals and opportunities, and then develop a quick-to-market strategic roadmap that would contribute to the turnaround of the Ana G. Mendez U.S. organization,” said José F. Mendez Mendez, president. “L2L’s years of marketing expertise, coupled with its unmatched education experience, has transformed our outreach to effectively engage today’s student population through a multi-media platform strategy, reducing cost per enrollment by 60 percent and generating cost savings of $1M by eliminating an outsourced call center, in just the first three months of their engagement.”

On the heels of this rapid growth, Figueroa was named a 2017 Influential Business Women of the Year by South Florida Business Journal and awarded a Golden Mouse for Multicultural Marketer of the Year by the Florida Chapter of Women in Ecommerce. The Agency was nominated for the third time for the Small Business of the Year Award by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce after having won the award twice prior and, most recently, the Agency took 2nd place at the 2017 NAMIC Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards (EMMA) in the Integrated Marketing Campaigns category for Life YES! WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The following statement is being issued by Hausfeld LLP regarding the In re Sony PS3 “Other OS” Litigation described below.

The sole purpose of this notice is to inform you of the settlement so that you can decide what to do.

A proposed settlement has been reached in the nationwide class action lawsuit, In re Sony PS3 “Other OS” Litigation, United States District Court, Northern District of California, Case No. C-10-1811 (YGR). This lawsuit challenges the decision to disable the Other OS functionality from “Fat” PS3 computer entertainment consoles through Firmware Update 3.21, released on April 1, 2010. “Fat” PS3 consoles were consoles manufactured with the ability to install a Linux operating system as an alternative to the game operating system. Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (“SCEA”) (n/k/a Sony Interactive Entertainment America LLC) is the defendant and denies all allegations.

If the settlement is approved and you are a Class Member, you may be eligible to submit a claim for benefits. You are a Class Member if you purchased a Fat PS3 between November 1, 2006 and April 1, 2010 from an authorized retailer for family, personal and/or household use and you:  (1) used the Other OS functionality; (2) knew about the Other OS functionality; or (3) contend or believe that you lost value or desired functionality or were otherwise injured as a consequence of Firmware Update 3.21 and/or the disablement of Other OS functionality in the Fat PS3.  Class Members will be eligible to receive a cash payment up to $65 per valid claim, the exact amount of which will depend on how many valid claims are submitted.  The deadline for submitting claim forms to the Settlement Administrator is April 15, 2018. Claim forms are available on the Settlement Website or may be obtained by calling the Settlement Administrator.

You may choose to exclude yourself from the settlement by sending your name, address, PS3 serial number, and/or PlayStation Network Sign-In ID and/or PlayStation Network Online ID, along with a statement that you wish to be excluded to the Settlement Administrator at the address below. If you exclude yourself, you will not receive anything but will retain your right to sue. You may also object to the settlement with the option to appear at the final approval hearing with your own attorney at your cost. If you do nothing or object to the settlement, you will be bound by its terms and cannot later sue SCEA.  All exclusion requests and objections must be submitted to the Settlement Administrator by April 15, 2018.

If you filed a claim with the Settlement Administrator for a benefit under the previous proposed settlement of the above-referenced class action litigation, you do not need to resubmit; however, if your mailing or email address has changed since you submitted your claim, you must update your address with the Settlement Administrator.  To check on the status of your previous claim, please contact the Settlement Administrator.
