The Home Depot Foundation Commits $700,000, Supplies and Volunteer Assistance to Gulf Flood Relief Efforts

ATLANTA, Aug. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Home Depot® Foundation today announced relief grants totaling $700,000 for disaster assistance in Louisiana and other Gulf communities impacted by recent flooding.

The financial contributions include $500,000 to the American Red Cross (ARC) as part of the company’s previous $1 million donation to the ARC, an additional $100,000 to Team Rubicon and $100,000 to Operation Blessing. The grants were made in addition to donations of product and other supplies already underway.

Local stores have also been assembling “Team Depot” employee volunteers to assist with relief and cleanup efforts, and will continue to do so.

“Although our local stores have been providing immediate assistance, we’re committed to the long-term recovery of the communities impacted by this terrible tragedy,” said Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation.

In addition to The Home Depot Foundation’s financial support, The Home Depot’s operations, supply chain, HR and merchandising teams have assembled a disaster response task force to move badly needed water, meals and other supplies into the region for local residents and the company’s associates.

Through its Homer Fund employee assistance program, The Home Depot Foundation is also providing emergency funds to associates who themselves have been affected by the tragedy.

Colgate Fields Largest Multicultural Oral Care Survey In The U.S. Revealing That Diverse Communities Have Strong Sense Of Responsibility Around Improving And Maintaining Optimal Oral Health

The survey sourced questions from leading dental associations including the American Dental Association, Hispanic Dental Association, and the National Dental Association, which promotes oral health equity among people of color. Results revealed that diverse communities have a stronger sense of responsibility when addressing oral health issues, reporting more frequent brushing, flossing and mouthwash use than the overall U.S population. In spite of reportedly excellent at-home oral health care, however, multicultural Americans still experience higher rates of overall oral health issues such as cavities, plaque build-up or bleeding gums.

While these groups lead in conscientiousness around oral health and self-reported having “good” and “excellent” oral health, disparities remain in these multicultural communities, which may be due to access to care issues such as language barriers or lack of dental insurance and a lack of information around best practices and habits.

Below are some of the key findings from the Colgate multicultural oral care survey:

  • On average, 80% of the multicultural Americans report brushing their teeth 2-3 times per day, compared to 75% of the general U.S. population
  • Nearly two-thirds of all multicultural Americans don’t visit an oral health professional regularly, as recommended, even if they are aware of the recommendation
  • Most multicultural groups surveyed have experienced at least one oral health problem in the past six months including cavities, yellow or stained teeth, plaque buildup or bleeding gums

According to the survey, most multicultural Americans report that they are taking their oral health more seriously today to avoid problems, all with a common goal to invest more time into the health of their teeth and gums.

Dos Santos will remain with the Rangers through the end of the season.  He will officially join the Deltas in October. The SF Deltas expect to hold tryouts in November.  The first pre-season game will take place in February 2017 against the San Jose Earthquakes.

The official hosts of this year’s award show include: Rafael Amaya and Fernanda Castillo from the ratings topping Super Series “El Señor de los Cielos,” Carlos Ponce and Maritza Rodriguez from the current romantic comedy “Silvana Sin Lana,” and David Chocarro and Aracely Arambula from the upcoming production “La Doña.” The highly anticipated awards event, which is produced by TELEMUNDO and Adventure Productions, will be preceded by the now traditional blue carpet special “La Alfombra de Premios Tu Mundo” at 7PM/6c. Rafael Amaya (El Señor de los Cielos) is without a doubt one of the best-known actors in television today, with a career that includes starring roles in successful TELEMUNDO original productions, theater, English and Spanish-language movies, and European television series. The leading man, who has also served as co-host of “The Billboard Mexican Music Awards,” “The Billboard Latin Music Awards,” and the first-ever broadcast of “Premios Tu Mundo,” starred earlier this year in the fourth season of the Super Series “El Señor de los Cielos”. The Mexican actor achieved crossover success in the Hallmark TV film “Meddling Mom,” the third-highest audience-rated production in the network’s history. Rafael has also diversified beyond acting, producing his first movie, “Paco & Santo vs. América” in 2009 and recently launching his first clothing line, Rafael Amaya Western Style.

Internationally-acclaimed Mexican star Aracely Arámbula has an artistic career that spans more than 15 years as an actress, host and singer. She has starred in dozens of highly-rated novelas in Mexico and around the world, such as “Acapulco, Cuerpo y Alma” “Cañaveral de Pasiones” “Pueblo Chico Infierno Grande” “El Alma no tiene Color” and “Soñadoras.” She had her first leading antagonist role on “Rencor Apasionado” in 1998 and two years later she played her first leading role in “Abrázame muy Fuerte”. The lovely and talented actress Fernanda Castillo returned to TELEMUNDO’s screen in the fourth season of Super Series “El Señor de los Cielos” in the role of Mónica Robles.
