Borinqueneers To Be Honored At Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony

0

WASHINGTON, April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — History will be made on April 13, 2016 as veterans of the 65th Infantry Regiment are honored by leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate with the presentation of a Congressional Gold Medal for its valor, determination and bravery displayed during the Korean War.  The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian honor the United States Congress can bestow.

Multiple members of the House and Senate who supported the initiative will attend and/or speak at the bipartisan, bicameral ceremony event, including Congressman Pedro Pierluisi (D-PR) and Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL), Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Originated in Puerto Rico in 1899, members of the 65th Infantry Regiment known as the Borinqueneers  have the distinction of having participated in all global wars of the 20th Century, including World War I, World War II and the Korean War.  In addition to the Congressional Gold Medal, the Regiment earned a collective nine Distinguished Service Crosses, approximately 250 Silver Stars, more than 600 Bronze Stars, more than 2,700 Purple Hearts, and 15 Unit Citations for its extraordinary service to the Nation during the Korean War.

In an effort to further awareness and recognition of these national heroes and their achievements, the not-for-profit Borinqueneers Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony National Committee (BCGMCNC) was created.  In addition to organizing all the activities associated with the unveiling ceremony in DC, the group is also planning additional ceremonies in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Central Florida.

The group’s founder and CEO, Samuel Rodríguez, was chosen to collaborate with the US Mint on the design of the medal which will be given to the Smithsonian Institute and placed on public display following the ceremony.  In an effort to expose as many of the Borinqueneers and their families to the medal, it is the hope of the BCGMCNC that the medal can be toured and displayed at appropriate locations across the country.  In addition, an initiative is currently underway to buy replica medals from the U. S. Mint that will be given free of cost to members of the regiment and their direct descendants.

“In accordance with Public Law No: 113-20, a single gold medal has been struck to honor the Borinqueneers,” said Rodríguez.  “But we think that each member deserves their own medal. There are more than 1,000 living veterans throughout the United States, and, thanks to Goya Foods, Inc., we have raised enough so far to give one to each of the 230 attendees who will be at the ceremony in Washington, D.C.  However, we still need funds for the rest so that no veteran is left out.”

While the BCGMCNC was originally established as a way to enhance the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony by adding events and activities for the Borinqueneers and their families and to raise funds for the replica medals, Rodríguez sees a greater purpose.  “These veterans deserve recognition and our great Nation needs to be educated about them,” said Rodríguez.  “Through educating people about their courage and heroism, we are carrying on their legacy and hopefully inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.”

Zero-Click Ordering from Domino’s® — When One Click Is One Too Many

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Domino’s Pizza (NYSE: DPZ), the recognized world leader in pizza delivery and digital ordering platforms, is launching the easiest way for consumers to order yet: zero-click ordering. As a brand that is committed to providing customers with ordering choices, the new Zero Click app for iOS and Android™ is available beginning today and allows customers to easily place their Easy Order.

When Domino’s launched the Easy Order in 2013, which refined the ordering experience down to five clicks, it seemed like the height of convenience for consumers. It wasn’t.

Zero-click ordering is as easy as it sounds. Download the app and link it to a Domino’s Pizza Profile. When the new app is opened, the saved Easy Order is automatically re-ordered without a single tap, swipe or click. Customers will see a 10-second countdown timer before the order is placed (giving consumers a chance to stop their order) and voila!

“We think about how to make digital ordering better all day and all night,” said Dennis Maloney, chief digital officer at Domino’s. “Zero-click ordering is a dream come true for us. I’m not saying the idea came to me in a dream (and I’m not saying it didn’t), but I challenge someone to dream up an easier way to order.”

More information and a short video of zero-click ordering can be found at anyware.dominos.com, along with information about all of the AnyWare ordering platforms, including emoji, Twitter, text, smart TV and Amazon Echo.

Puerto Rico General Obligation Bondholders Release Term Sheet for Consensual Deal

0

WASHINGTON, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Numerous investors (including certain mutual funds) holding $5bn in Puerto Rico’s General Obligation bonds have agreed upon the terms of a joint restructuring proposal. It is expected that additional GO bondholders will join in this proposal in the very near future. Their joint restructuring proposal has now been released by the GO Bondholder group.

In addition to releasing the GO Bondholder term sheet, Andrew Rosenberg of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison LLP, an advisor to the Ad Hoc group of Puerto Rico’s General Obligation bondholders, issued the following statement:

“We believe this proposal has significant local bi-partisan support in the legislature, which should be encouraging to the Government of Puerto Rico. While we would like to negotiate with the Puerto Rican Government in private and in good faith, the debt moratorium it has proposed that is before the Puerto Rican legislature has prompted this public release. We welcome engagement with important stakeholders throughout Puerto Rico, including the legislature and other leaders. We also welcome engagement with other GO bondholders.

“This offer should be attractive to the Commonwealth as it defers nearly $2 billion in principal over the next five years, and provides new money. Most importantly, this consensual process avoids a July 1 default, which would irreparably harm Puerto Rico’s economy, hurt millions of American citizens who live on the island, and impair Puerto Rico’s access to markets and its ability to finance essential services.”

Main Street Bondholders Denounces Illegal Moratorium on Constitutional Debt Payments

0

WASHINGTON, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In response to Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla’s illegal moratorium on all Commonwealth debt payments, which creates a constitutional crisis on the island by including debts backed by the “full faith and credit” of the Puerto Rican Government, Main Street Bondholders released the following statement:

“This unilateral moratorium is a direct violation of our Constitution and undermines the rule of law that once governed Puerto Rico,” said Main Street Bondholders Member Dr. Elias Gutierrez. “Governor Garcia Padilla has made clear that he will pursue any means necessary to follow his agenda, regardless of legality, and in doing so has all but destroyed the credibility of the Commonwealth.”

“The moratorium will crush any negotiations that may have been ongoing in good faith between Puerto Rico and bondholders,” said Main Street Bondholders Member Teresa Garcia. “This bill makes finding a consensual solution essentially impossible, and wrongly directs a crisis of the governor’s own making at regular bondholders all over Puerto Rico.”

The moratorium legislation, which was passed by the Puerto Rican Senate early this morning, awaits a final vote in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives at 11:00 am ET. If passed, the unconstitutional moratorium will likely doom the Puerto Rican Government and its bondholders to years of protracted litigation.

Main Street Bondholders Coalition is a project of the 60 Plus Association, and is comprised of small bondholders from across America who are committed to a policy process that returns Puerto Rico to sound financial management, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of their retirement savings.

Puerto Rico General Obligation Bondholders Issue Statement On Consensual Deal

0

WASHINGTON, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The following statement can be attributed to Andrew Rosenberg of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison LLP, an advisor to the Ad Hoc group of Puerto Rico’s General Obligation bondholders.

“It is no coincidence that the Governor has abruptly sought overnight adoption of debt moratorium legislation at the very moment large General Obligation bondholders were arriving on the island to pursue a consensual restructuring deal with Puerto Rico’s political leaders, other than the Governor. The Governor has spent the last nine months rebuffing all overtures by the GO holders. In fact, the consensual deal that is being proposed by GO holders would give Puerto Rico additional liquidity by, among other things, deferring substantial principal payments. Most importantly, this consensual deal avoids a July 1 default on Constitutional debt.”
