In 2015, Aeromexico flew the first transcontinental flight in the history of aviation with only female pilots and flight attendants, from Mexico City to Shanghai. Consequently, and as part of its celebration of International Women’s Day this year, the carrier confirmed its commitment for the second year in a row by operating flights with only female crews to the four cardinal points including domestic and international destinations, such as Guatemala, Houston, Lima, Madrid, Monterrey, Montreal, New York, Puerto Vallarta, and Tokyo. The airplanes used to operate these flights include Embraer 190, B737, B777 models, and the B787 Dreamliner.
The carrier thus contributes to global efforts to break down myths and prejudices about women in aviation, as the female role continues to become increasingly relevant on an international level.
Aeromexico’s Executive Director of Talent and Institutional Relations Sergio Allard said, “The role women play in our company, definitely contributes to the carrier positioning itself as Mexico’s global airline as it continues to put Mexico’s name on high across the globe.”
The carrier is using the #MujeresVuelanAlto hashtag in honor of the power, influence and relevance women play in each of the airline’s actions, achievements, and plans, and as an expression of its appreciation for the support and commitment of its female employees.

Engine & Powertrain
Providing exceptional power and fuel efficiency performance, the 2017 RDX’s 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) has a peak output of 279 horsepower at 6,200 and 252lb.-ft. of torque at 4,900 rpm. The powerplant’s broad torque curve delivers immediate and powerful acceleration response across the engine’s full operating range.
The engine’s Variable Cylinder Management™ cylinder deactivation system allows for deactivation of three of the engine’s six cylinders under light engine loads, helping the RDX earn EPA fuel-economy ratings of 19/27/22 mpg (city/highway/combined) for AWD models and 20/28/23 mpg for FWD models. The 2017 RDX complies with EPA TIER 2 – BIN 5 and CARB LEV II ULEV emissions standards.
Body & Chassis
The RDX utilizes high-strength steel for 56 percent of the body construction, which not only provides increased strength at a lower weight but also results in a stiffer body for improved dynamic performance and reduced NVH.
The RDX rides on 4-wheel independent suspension with a MacPherson strut design in front and a multi-link design in back. Amplitude Reactive Dampers at all four corners and motion adaptive electronic power steering system further aid sporty handling and refined driving performance.
All RDX models except the Advance Package feature split 5-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels. The RDX with Advance Package gets a machined 18-inch aluminum alloy wheel with painted grey surfaces. All RDX models have 4-wheel disc brakes that include an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.
Interior
The 2017 RDX comfortably accommodates five passengers. In front, its “dual personal” cockpit design caters to the driver and front passenger, creating a personal and accommodating space for each. Its available leather seating surfaces (leatherette in base models) and ergonomically designed seat contours provide ample support during spirited drives or long road trips. The power actuated driver seat is 10-way adjustable for a custom fit. For the driver, there is a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED backlit gauges with progressive illumination and a Multi-Information Display (MID) that allows access to multiple electronic functions. The Advance package as well as all base and Technology Package models equipped with AcuraWatch™ feature a 4.2-inch, full-color TFT Multi-Information Display with customizable information readouts such as average vehicle speed, fuel economy, fuel range, tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and turn-by-turn navigation prompts (when equipped with navigation, standard on Technology and Advance packages).
Among the advanced electronic technologies in the 2017 RDX is a 360-watt audio system with seven speakers, a CD player, AM/FM radio, XM® Radio with Note function, Bluetooth® Audio, USB port and AUX jack connectivity, and Speed Volume Control.
The transformability of the RDX for passenger and cargo hauling is accomplished with the aid of “one touch” activation of the 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks offering easy configuration of the 76.9 cubic feet of storage rear cargo area (with rear seatbacks folded down)3. Interior storage compartments include a large center console between the front seats and there are numerous other storage pockets and cubby spaces throughout the RDX. The RDX has a total EPA passenger volume of 103.5 cubic feet.
With the Technology Package, the interior includes a high-contrast silver and black design plus a host of driver relevant features, including AcuraLink® Satellite Communication System, Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, and AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™. Additional standard features include an 8-way adjustable power passenger’s front seat, Acura’s intuitive dual-screen On-Demand Multi-Information Display (ODMD), HD Radio®, blind spot information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, and Multi-view Rear Camera with dynamic guidelines. The navigation system also makes use of an 8-inch W-VGA color screen that is also used for a new rear view camera system.
The RDX with Technology Package also includes the Acura/ELS Surround® 10-speaker, 410-watt premium audio system with CD, DTS™, AM/FM radio, XM® Radio, and Bluetooth® Audio. Also part of the Technology Package is a GPS-linked, solar-sensing, dual-zone automatic climate control system.
The line-topping Advance Package delivers even higher levels of luxury comfort, convenience and technology, adding rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, and AcuraWatch™ as standard equipment.
Safety
The RDX offers the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies as a standalone option on the base RDX and RDX with Technology Package and as standard equipment on the new RDX with Advance Package. AcuraWatch™ technologies are as follows:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
The 2017 RDX with Technology or Advance packages adds blind spot information and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, further enhancing the driver’s situational awareness.
In the event of a collision, the RDX’s advanced, energy-absorbing body structure, supplemental restraint systems (seatbelts and airbags) and strategically designed interior components are all designed to mitigate the potential for injury.
The RDX utilizes Acura’s acclaimed Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure – a network of connected structural elements to help distribute and direct crash energy in a range of frontal collision scenarios, including offset and oblique impacts. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment and can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles in a crash. The RDX features additional engineering elements in the front body, roof and side pillar areas that further improve frontal collision and roof crush resistance performance.
The passive safety technologies of the RDX includes six airbags including dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags (SRS), dual-chamber front seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags for the front and outboard rear seating positions. Safety features continue with 3-point seatbelts for all seating positions, while the driver and front passenger have front seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system with load limiters. The RDX offers head restraints for all seating positions. The rear seat features Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH), which permits easy attachment of up to two child seats in the outboard seating positions.

59 Percent of Car Seats Are Misused and One-Third of Children Killed in Car Crashes Were Completely Unrestrained at the Time of the Crash
WASHINGTON, March 9, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Every 33 seconds a child under 13 is involved in a car crash in the United States, according to 2014 data from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Safety seats, if used correctly, can dramatically reduce the risk of fatality or injury. But 59 percent of car seats are misused in a way that could reduce their effectiveness, and over one-third of children killed in car crashes were completely unrestrained at the time of the crash. Today, NHTSA and the Ad Council unveiled a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) to educate parents and caregivers about the importance of selecting the right seat for their child’s age and size, and to remind them that car seats, booster seats and seat belts offer the best protection for children in crashes and help save lives.
Experience the interactive Multimedia News Release here: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7774451-ad-council-find-the-right-seat/
“Life can change in an instant. We want parents and caregivers to prepare for the unexpected, rather than face their worst nightmare,” said Dr. Mark Rosekind, NHTSA administrator. “Buckling up a child correctly and in the right seat is the best protection any parent can do to see their child walk away unharmed from a car crash.”
The English language PSAs, which were created pro bono by the advertising agency, Campbell Ewald, encourage parents to know for sure that their child is in the right car seat before they get in the driver’s seat. By using the tagline, “Don’t Think You Know. Know You Know,” the PSAs focuses on parents’ overconfidence, reminding them that it might be too late to check their child’s seat when they’re on the road. A separate series of Hispanic-targeted PSAs, developed pro bono by the advertising agency, Casanova Pendrill, urge parents to protect their child’s future at every stage of life, by making sure they secure them in the right car seat for their age, height and weight. The English language PSAs direct to SaferCar.gov/TheRightSeat and the Spanish ads direct to SaferCar.gov/protegidos where parents and caregivers can find more information on how to determine if their child is in the right safety seat.
The new PSAs are an extension of the Ad Council’s Child Passenger Safety campaign, which launched in 2012. The Ad Council will be distributing the TV, radio, outdoor, print and web banner ads to media outlets nationwide this week, and will also make them available through PSACentral.org. The ads will air and run in time and space entirely donated by the media. To date, the Child Passenger Safety campaign has received more than $180 million in donated media.
“This campaign is about life, about dreams. It is a plea to parents and caregivers in the present in order to ensure our children’s future. Although the statistics about the deaths and injuries caused by crashes are scary, we don’t want to scare parents, we want to inspire them,” said Elias Weinstock, chief creative officer at Casanova Pendrill USA.
“We know that many parents aren’t sure if their kids are in the right car seat. We also know that car crashes are a leading cause of death for young children. That’s a very dangerous combination. So we created a powerful way to warn parents to do something about it…while there’s still time.” Ron Wachino – senior vice president, group creative director.
“The right car seat can keep kids safe, and that’s what we all want for our children,” said Ad Council President and CEO, Lisa Sherman. “It’s not enough for parents to think they know which car seat is right for their child; they need to know for sure.”

Powerful California Senate Committee Passes SB 819 to Ban Powdered Alcohol
SACRAMENTO, California, March 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Alcohol Justice and the California Alcohol Policy Alliance (CAPA) are reporting that the first of two proposed bills to ban powdered alcohol in California has been passed by the powerful California Senate Governmental Organization (GO) Committee. “We applaud Senator Huff (R-Diamond Bar), author of SB 819, Senator Hall, Chair of the GO Committee, and all the GO Committee members for their leadership on this issue,” stated Richard Zaldivar, spokesperson for CAPA and Alcohol Justice. “As soon as this bill is passed by the entire legislature and signed by Governor Brown, California will join 28 other states which have already banned the product to protect the health and safety of our young people.”
Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20110727/DC41105LOGO
SB 819, and an identical measure in the Assembly (AB 1554 – authored by Assemblymember Irwin D-Thousand Oaks), will create a comprehensive pre-emptive stop to a chilling litany of health and safety concerns associated with powdered or crystalline alcohol. The bills will prohibit the possession, purchase, sale, offer for sale, distribution, manufacture, or use of powdered alcohol and would make the violation of these provisions punishable with a fine.
An impressive group of public health and safety advocates from across the state have come together to support the legislation including:
- Alcohol Justice
- Alpine County Board of Supervisors
- California Alcohol Policy Alliance (CAPA)
- California College and University Police Chiefs Association (CCUPCA)
- California Council on Alcohol Problems (CALCAP)
- California District Attorneys Association (CDAA)

- The McGeorge Clinic (UOP McGeorge School of Law)
- Pueblo Y Salud
- San Francisco Board of Supervisors
- Saving Lives Coalition
- The Wall Las Memorias Project
- Youth Leadership Institute (YLI)
- Placer County Board of Supervisors
Last March, Alcohol Justice requested emergency legislative action nationwide and in California in response to news that the U.S. Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau (TTB) approved labels for the powdered alcohol product, Palcohol. The TTB approval gave a green light to begin marketing it wherever legal. Since then, 28 states have permanently banned powdered alcohol. Two states have enacted temporary one-year statutory bans, and three states are regulating it under existing alcohol statutes.
“We know that every year over 500 underage alcohol-related deaths occur in California, while underage drinking costs the public $3.5 billion,” said Bruce Lee Livingston, Executive Director / CEO of Alcohol Justice. “Today’s unanimous committee vote sends a strong message that California will not allow the dangers that powdered alcohol products would add.”
The bill passed today on a 12-0 vote and will now move through one more committee before being voted upon by the full Senate.
