INSTANT WOW – OPTICAL EFFECTS
Artistry® Intensive Skincare Advanced Skin Refinisher reveals a flawless finish immediately upon application, from the first use. Skin appears instantly refined, smoothed and softened for a perfectly youthful, visibly pore-less look. In fact, the formula contains Lintel Seed Extract an ingredient tested to visibly reduce pores by 62%.

The “wow” effect of Artistry® Intensive Skincare Advanced Skin Refinisher owes its success to an exclusive blend of ingredients:

  1. Optical Diffusers – mattify and smooth the skin’s surface for a soft-focus appearance.
  2. Lentil Seed Extract – antioxidant rich extract that helps reduce pore distortion caused by the build-up of skin cells and surface debris for a reduced appearance of pores.
  3. Patented* Oat Extract – help exfoliate the skin’s surface area to unclog pores and smooth away roughness.

LONG-TERM REFINISHING
The key to the Artistry® Intensive Skincare Advanced Skin Refinisher lies in the balance of ingredients that deliver instantly against those that work their magic over time:

  1. Java Tea Extract – helps suppress excess sebum production, down to the core of the pore.
  2. Star Fruit Leaf Extract – reinforces the outside area of the pore’s structure to help reduce visible slackening, and helps tighten the appearance of pores for a more even skin texture.

This silky smooth serum glides easily over skin. Use twice daily, morning and evening after cleansing and toning, before applying moisturizer.

NeuroAiD™ has shown persistent long-term benefits after an initial 3-month treatment following stroke onset

0

SINGAPORE, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Moleac is pleased to announce the release of the CHIMES-E study results published online in the journal Cerebrovascular Diseases[1]. It provides convincing data on NeuroAiD which confirm its persistent long-term benefits on patients’ recovery after an ischemic stroke. The CHIMES-E study results were first announced by Prof. Christopher Chen (CHIMES-E co-principal investigator) during the European Stroke Organization Conference (ESOC 2015) in Glasgow, April 17-19, as part of the Scientific Program during the Clinical Trial session.

The CHIMES-E study is a planned, international and multicenter study performed in a blinded and placebo-controlled manner. It has included 880 patients from the CHIMES study who have suffered an ischemic stroke of intermediate severity within 72 hours, treated with NeuroAiD™ or placebo for 3 months after the initial stroke. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of an initial 3-month course with NeuroAiD™ on long-term outcomes for up to 2 years.

This study has showed that NeuroAiD™ increases significantly the odds of achieving functional independence at 6 months which persisted up to 18 months after stroke, as measured by the mRS. All these results were consistent at various time points and seen on 2 indices, i.e. mRS and BI. It also provided further long-term safety data on NeuroAiD™, even when combined with other stroke treatments. “These persistent benefits seen up to 18 months are a clinical confirmation of the previously established neurorestorative properties (i.e. neuroplasticity and neurogenesis) of NeuroAiD™, and suggest that it may be beneficial to extend NeuroAiD™ treatment beyond the first 3 months after stroke, said Prof. Christopher Chen, neurologist at the National University of Singapore and the principal investigator of the CHIMES study. “The CHIMES-E study provides new insight on the need for longterm assessment of post-stroke recovery in clinical trials of agents with neuroprotective and neurestorative properties such as NeuroAiD.”

These results confirm the hypothesis raised by the CHIMES investigators: longer treatment duration and follow-up beyond 3 months of stroke patients is needed to assess stroke recovery[2].

About CHIMES Society
The CHIMES Society is an international academic industry collaboration with the objective to establish new stroke treatments. It is a Singaporean non-profit society founded by a group of experts in stroke and South-East Asian stroke clinicians interested to implement a research project: the NeuroAiD™ Efficacy on stroke recovery trial (CHIMES trial).

The CHIMES-E Study was supported by the CHIMES society and grants were received by CHLC from the National Medical Research Council in Singapore (NMRC) which supports the implementation of CHIMES trial in Singapore.

GLP-1 Alters How the Brain Responds to Food

GLP-1 Alters How the Brain Responds to Food

BOSTON, June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Gut hormone-based medications used to treat diabetes, such as GLP-1 receptor agonists, have also been shown to reduce body weight. Researchers have been working to understand how. This study, presented today at the American Diabetes Association’s 75th Scientific Sessions, sheds light on how GLP-1 receptor agonists alter the brain’s response to food, possibly reducing cravings and increasing satisfaction while eating.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20141105/156803LOGO

Previous studies have shown that the brains of obese people have a greater response to pictures of food than those of lean people, and a reduced reward response during the consumption of food, which may lead to overeating. Researchers in Amsterdam tested the hypothesis that the GLP-1 receptor agonist exenatide – a medication which mimics the effects of natural GLP-1 by binding to the GLP-1 receptor – was helping patients with type 2 diabetes lose weight by altering the brain’s response to food consumption and decreasing appetite.

“When you eat, there are several hormones released. GLP-1 is one of them,” explained Liselotte van Bloemendaal, MD, a PhD student at the Diabetes Center, VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. “These hormones relay information to the central nervous system about nutritional status to regulate appetite. Using functional MRIs (which measure brain activity by detecting changes in blood flow), we looked at the reward centers in the brains of obese individuals with and without type 2 diabetes and measured the response to the anticipation of and drinking of chocolate milk while being given GLP-1 receptor agonist intravenously versus placebo. We found that GLP-1 receptor activation decreased anticipatory food reward, which may reduce cravings, and increased the feeling of food reward during consumption, which may reduce overeating.”

“Given the dramatic, global rise in the prevalence of obesity, further insights into the mechanisms by which these reward centers are activated are needed,” she said, adding that one avenue that merits further investigation would be to study whether adding a second hormone, such as glucagon, to GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment could further increase weight loss. In addition, Bloemendaal is interested in determining if GLP-1 receptor agonists can alter cravings for drugs, alcohol and nicotine in humans, offering a possible therapeutic target for substance abuse disorders.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved the first GLP-1 agonist for the treatment of obesity in the United States.

Can Not Having Enough to Eat Lead to Poor Diabetes Management? Study Finds Food Insecurity Affects Glycemic Control and Vegetable Consumption in Latinos

Can Not Having Enough to Eat Lead to Poor Diabetes Management? Study Finds Food Insecurity Affects Glycemic Control and Vegetable Consumption in Latinos

Study Suggests New Factor to Be Considered in Diabetes Management

BOSTON, June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Latinos who worry about having enough food to eat – so-called food insecurity – report having a poorer diet and exhibit worse glycemic control than those who aren’t worried about having sufficient food to survive, according to a study presented at the American Diabetes Association’s 75th Scientific Sessions. The findings suggest that food insecurity should be a factor considered in overall diabetes management.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20141105/156803LOGO

Approximately 24 percent of Latino households in the U.S. were food insecure in 2013, compared to 14 percent for Americans overall, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A 2012 study published in the journal Diabetes Spectrum found that diabetes risk was roughly 2.5 percent higher in households reporting food insecurity.

Researchers at the Emory School of Medicine/Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia decided to explore the impact of food insecurity on diabetes management after hearing from patients that they could not afford to buy healthy foods, such as fresh vegetables. To measure food insecurity, they asked whether patients had been worried about having enough food to eat at any point in the past 30 days. They also developed a tool based on the plate method to assess the amount of vegetables patients were eating during their main meal each day (full plate, one-half, one-third of a plate, one-fourth of a plate, or no vegetables). Lastly, the Emory research team also measured and analyzed differences in A1C (a three-month measure of glycemic control) of the food insecure and food secure patients.

“We found that those patients who were food insecure had higher A1C levels and ate fewer vegetables,” said Britt Rotberg, MS, RDN, LD, CDE, BC-ADM, Assistant Director of the Emory Diabetes Education Training Academy, Emory Latino Diabetes Education Program at the Emory School of Medicine. “These findings underscore the importance of individualized diabetes management, and the need to take into account not only patients’ socioeconomic status, but food availability, when discussing diabetes self-management. We should find new ways to help our food insecure patients obtain nutritionally adequate foods.”

The study found that those who were food insecure had average A1C levels of 9.9 percent, compared to 7.6 percent for those who were food secure. It also showed that those who were food insecure ate fewer vegetables than those who were food secure. When looking at patients who consumed more than one-third of a plate of non-starchy vegetables at their main meal, 62 percent were food secure compared to 38 percent who were food insecure.

Rotberg said there was no significant difference in body mass index (BMI) between the two groups, suggesting that “both groups may consume comparable calories per the individuals’ requirements, but with a difference in nutrient density potentially determining the difference in glycemic control.”
