Ready for Liftoff: 2016 Acura RDX Launching with More Performance, Luxury Appointments and Advanced Safety Technology than Ever Before

TORRANCE, California, April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In a major commitment to advance what is already one of its most successful models, Acura is launching a more powerful, fuel efficient and luxuriously appointed 2016 RDX luxury SUV at dealerships nationwide tomorrow with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting at $35,270 – an increase of just $175 over the 2015 model, despite the additional performance, features and capability.

Coming off an all-time record sales year in 2014, the refreshed 5-passenger RDX now packs an even stronger punch in the compact luxury SUV class for 2016 with a more powerful 3.5-liter i-VTEC® V-6 engine, ride and handling refinements, an expanded list of available AcuraWatch™ safety and driver-assistive technologies, restyled exterior and interior elements and a host of new luxury features and technologies, including standard Jewel Eye™ LED projector headlamps and LED taillights. A new line-topping Advance grade ties the improvements and new features together in one comprehensive package.

“The new RDX is another great example of how we are continuing to advance our Acura lineup with a focus on prestige, performance and dynamic proportion,” said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager of Acura. “With the all-new TLX and upgraded MDX, RDX and ILX all getting a major injection of Acura DNA, we have one of the strongest Acura lineups in a decade.”

The 2016 RDX gets an important performance boost courtesy of its new 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) cylinder deactivation technology. Peak horsepower and torque output are up to 279 (+6 hp) and 252 lb.-ft. (+1 lb.-ft.), respectively, while sporting a broader torque curve for more immediate and powerful acceleration response–right where it counts. Variable Cylinder Management™ allows for deactivation of three of the engine’s six cylinders under light engine loads, helping the more powerful 2016 RDX increase its highway EPA fuel-economy ratings by 1 mpg, rising to 19/28mpg for AWD models and 20/29mpg for FWD models (city/highway).[1] Driving refinement is further enhanced by new active front and rear engine mounts, updates to the steering control system and increased suspension mount stiffness. Additionally, the RDX’s available all-wheel-drive system – AWD with Intelligent Control – has been tuned for greater rear torque bias to further enhance dynamic stability and all-weather performance.

The 2016 RDX also gets key elements of Acura design DNA with restyled front and rear fascia, including the addition of Acura’s signature Jewel Eye™ LED headlights and LED taillights with light-pipe design on all models and a new three-dimensional grille treatment. All models also receive new wheel designs.

Inside, the new RDX gets a freshened look with a high-contrast silver and black trim plus significant upgrades to both standard and available luxury features and technology, including standard heated front seats and new second-row air-conditioning vents. The RDX with Technology Package adds a new 8-way adjustable power passenger’s front seat (4-way power in base models), Acura’s intuitive dual-screen On-Demand Multi-Information Display (ODMD), HD Radio®, blind spot information (BSI), Multi-view Rear Camera with dynamic guidelines and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor.

A new line-topping Advance Package for the 2016 RDX features unique machined alloy wheels (18″ x 7.5″) with painted gray inserts and adds rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, Bi-Directional Keyless remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror and the full suite of AcuraWatch™ advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Both the Technology and Advance packages can be equipped with the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™. All RDX models with AcuraWatch™ also get a new 4.2-inch full-color TFT Multi-Information Display with expanded, customizable information readouts such as average vehicle speed, fuel economy, fuel range, tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and turn-by-turn navigation prompts (when equipped with navigation).

While offered as standard equipment on the new Advance Package, all RDX models can now be equipped with the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System™ and Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning, along with the Expanded View driver’s side mirror.

In addition to the available AcuraWatch™ technologies, the 2016 RDX offers enhanced crash safety design with numerous changes to its Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that further improve frontal collision performance. The 2016 RDX targets top-in-class safety ratings – a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The RDX continues to be produced at the company’s East Liberty, Ohio, plant, using domestic and globally sourced parts. In January, Acura marked the sale of its two-millionth North American-made vehicle in America. Last year, approximately 94 percent of all Acura models sold in America were made in the company’s plants in Ohio and Alabama.

Multi-platinum alternative rock heavyweights Incubus recently signed with Island Records, and will release 4-song EP entitled Trust Fall (Side A) on May 12. After nearly two years off the grid conceptualizing and recording new material, Incubus, under the management of Johnny Wright at Wright Entertainment Group, has its sights set on a “non-traditional” album in 2015. Founding member Mike Einziger told Billboard.com that although the band didn’t have “any plans of making this record” the new music is “pretty indicative of where we are now. This is what the band sounds like in 2015.” The EP’s digital pre-order is available on iTunes, and the CD and vinyl versions of the EP can be pre-ordered now HERE. Twenty years since the release of their indie debut album in 1995, Fungus Amongus. Incubus went on to release six studio albums (the last three produced by Brendan O’Brien), achieving RIAA Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum success; as well as five live albums. Four of their songs have hit #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, including “Drive” (2000, also Top 10 Pop), “Megalomaniac” (2003), “Anna Molly” (2006), and “Love Hurts” (2008).

Since Deftones‘ inception, the multi-Platinum, Grammy Award®-winning alternative rock band from Sacramento, Cali. have quietly been pursuing two paths, delivering songs defined by churning, double-fisted aggression while also testing the boundaries of music by incorporating elements of psychedelia and shoegaze. The Los Angeles Times wrote of Deftones, “Hard rock thrives on conflict and chaos, and no band has found more beauty and soaring aggression within those ingredients than Deftones.” The band’s seventh studio album Koi No Yokan, released in November 2012, spawned two Top Five hits at Rock radio (“Tempest” and “Swerve City“). Koi No Yokan met with critical acclaim with Revolver naming it their “Album of the Year” and SPIN selecting it as one of its Top 50 Albums of 2012. The New York Post also hailed it as “one of the best rock albums of the year.” Deftones have released seven albums to date and have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. Vocalist/guitarist Chino Moreno, guitarist Stephen Carpenter, keyboardist/samplist Frank Delgado, drummer Abe Cunningham and bassist Sergio Vega, are currently working on their eighth studio album to be released in 2015.

Globally revered and highly influential dance-punk duo Death From Above 1979 are touring in support The Physical World released by Last Gang Records/Warner Bros. Records this past September.

Produced by D. Sardy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, LCD Soundsystem, Wolfmother, Oasis), The Physical World comes a full ten years after the release of the band’s universally acclaimed debut album, You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine, which made Jesse F. Keeler (bass, synths, backing vocals) and Sebastien Grainger (vocals and drums), an underground / overground sensation. DFA 1979 broke up in 2006 while the first album and subsequent remix album continued to sell inexplicably. They decided to reunite in 2011 and began to perform live picking up where they left off without missing a beat. Their rabid cult has only continued to amass just as inexplicably. “Returning a decade later, they’re still crushing violent, angular riffs, but they’re also writing catchier songs. A throwback to a throwback that’s better the second time around.” – Rolling Stone Magazine

TD Bank Survey Finds Hispanic Monthly Spending Below the National Average

Unavoidable Expenses Leave Many Hispanics Wishing They Were Able to Save More

CHERRY HILL, New Jersey, April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Hispanics spend an average of $300 less per month when compared with the general U.S. population, according to new survey results from TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20131120/MM21057LOGO

The TD Bank Saving and Spending Survey questioned more than 1,600 U.S. consumers about their saving and spending habits. The survey found the monthly spending average for Hispanics significantly lower than the general market, spending just $1,291 compared with the national average of $1,608 (excluding rent/mortgage).

“While the survey shows Hispanics are spending less than the national average, they are still struggling to save money, with 43 percent wishing they could save more,” said Nandita Bakhshi, Executive Vice President, Consumer Bank, TD Bank. “Managing spending and savings is a delicate balance but it can be achieved with the right plan and budget.”

Necessary Expenses and the Influence of Impulse Purchases
Hispanics are burdened with expenses they seemingly cannot escape. The survey results found that almost half (43 percent) of Hispanics wish they were able to save more but have unavoidable expenses, such as groceries and household utilities, which rank highest among top spending categories.

The top spending categories for Hispanics include:

  • Groceries and alcohol (26 percent of monthly spending)
  • Household utilities and bills (22 percent of monthly spending)
  • Loan and line of credit payments (12 percent of monthly spending)

In terms of excessive spending on day-to-day items, 41 percent of Hispanics respondents agreed that they spend too much on restaurants/dining out, followed by coffee/lunches (19 percent) and clothing/shoes (15 percent). When it comes to cutting back, the majority of Hispanics (64 percent) agreed they would cut back on the costs related to restaurants/dining, followed by clothing/shoes (37 percent) and gifts for others (35 percent).

Aside from necessary expenses, the survey found that Hispanics also indulge on impulse purchases. Nearly half (43 percent) of Hispanics claim to sometimes indulge in impulse purchases because they feel they deserve it. Interestingly, 24 percent of Hispanics said they rarely spend impulsively because they try not to spend outside their budget.

Cautious with a Keen Eye on Personal Budgets
When asked to describe their financial character, almost half (40 percent) of Hispanics claim their financial personality/character to be “cautious.” In regards to how regularly they are examining their finances, about half (48 percent) of Hispanics check their budget once a week to ensure they are spending within their means. Additionally, 35 percent of Hispanics said they use banking/financial apps as a method to keep track of their budget.

According to the survey, Hispanics said that their parents (38 percent) are the biggest impact on their financial behavior followed by friends (13 percent). Friends and family (29 percent), celebrities (26 percent) and professional financial advisors (21 percent) are the ideal person(s) they would choose to discuss their finances.

Necessary Preparation for a Solid Financial Future
The survey also found that the majority of Hispanics (62 percent) do not have savings or investments to draw from in case of unexpected unemployment. Furthermore, 31 percent of Hispanics report they would be able to live comfortably for six or more months without a source of income.

Although more than half (54 percent) of Hispanics report that they are not currently saving or investing money for retirement, 30 percent claim they feel they are extremely/very confident that they will be able to retire comfortably.

“The key to reaching your financial goals, whether it’s saving money for your retirement or just planning for a rainy day, is to have a plan and stick to it,” said Bakhshi. “Having a budget will help you manage your expenses and allow you to save money and give you confidence in your financial future.”

Full survey results can be found at https://mediaroom.tdbank.com/savingandspending.

Survey Methodology
The study was conducted among a representative group of 1607 consumers (including 80 Hispanic consumers) between March 26 and March 31, 2015. The sample size has a margin of error of +/- 2.4%. The survey was conducted by Vision Critical.

Be Financially Prepared For Hurricane Season With The I.I.I.’s New Insurance Checklist

Hurricane Season Insurance Checklist Guides Coastal Residents Through Important Coverage Questions

NEW YORK, April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — With the start of the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season approaching on June 1, the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) urges coastal residents to review their insurance coverage now so that they understand all of their insurance options and can make sound financial decisions in preparation for a possible storm.

To guide consumers through a coverage review and discussion with their insurance professional, the I.I.I. has created a Hurricane Season Insurance Checklist.

“After a hurricane or other disaster, it is always heartbreaking to hear about people who file a claim and learn only after the fact that that they could have purchased either more coverage or an additional policy that would have provided a higher reimbursement for their loss,” pointed out Jeanne M. Salvatore, chief communications officer for the I.I.I.

The I.I.I.’s checklist empowers consumers to do a thorough review of their insurance policies and have a constructive conversation with their insurance professional. It includes information on hurricane and windstorm deductibles, flood insurance and the importance of keeping coverage up-to-date. The checklist was created based on questions that the I.I.I. frequently hears from consumers and the media after a disaster, and concerns that were raised at the recent National Hurricane Conference in Austin, Texas.

The average number of storms per hurricane season, dating back to 1980, is 12 named storms, six hurricanes, and three major hurricanes, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

FAU National Poll States Hispanics Have Favorable Opinion of Obamacare, Will Vote for Candidates That Support It

BOCA RATON, Fla., April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Hispanics nationally have a 60 percent favorable opinion of the Affordable Care Act and are finding it increasingly easier to afford healthcare, according to the latest survey conducted by the Florida Atlantic University Business and Economics Polling Initiative (FAU BEPI) in the College of Business.

The March poll was conducted six months after a similar survey of Hispanics on Obamacare and offers a snapshot of their evolving opinions. Overall, Hispanics find it easier to afford healthcare (23.1 percent to 15 percent) than they did in September 2014. Only 7.8 percent of those polled said they had no health insurance, compared to 15.7 percent six months earlier.

The numbers were especially pronounced for Hispanic women, as the percentage of females that are uninsured dropped from 20.8 percent to 8.4 percent, and the number of Hispanic females on government insurance jumped 16.1 points (26.2 percent to 42.2 percent).

“Before the Affordable Care Act expansion of health insurance coverage Hispanics were far more likely than whites to be uninsured,” said Monica Escaleras, Ph.D., director of BEPI. “The Affordable Care Act is reducing the ethnic disparities in access to healthcare.”

Hispanic men are more likely to favor the Affordable Care Act than women (66.4 percent to 52.4 percent). The favorable numbers were highest in the southeast at 72 percent, and lowest in the northeast at 40.3 percent. Asked how the healthcare law will affect their vote in the 2016 presidential election, 45.2 percent of Hispanics said they will vote for a candidate that supports the Affordable Care Act, while 31.8 percent stated they would support a candidate that opposes it. Hispanics 35-54 years of age were most likely to vote for candidates that support Obamacare (50.9 percent vs. 32.1 that oppose candidates that support Obamacare).

Hispanics by a 20-point margin believe the federal government is responsible for providing coverage to its citizens (54 percent to 34 percent), a sentiment that grows stronger for those making the highest incomes (56.8 percent for those making $75,000 and above).

The Obamacare poll was part of a monthly survey by BEPI of consumer optimism among Hispanics, which remained steady at 99.53, up one point from February and slightly down up from its January high of 100.69.
