FIME, The Largest Medical Trade Show For The Americas, Is Back And Better Than Ever
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., May 19, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The largest medical trade show of the Americas is proud to announce that its 30th annual trade fair is making a return to Miami. FIME will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) from September 1-3, 2021.

Following FIME’s hiatus last year due to the pandemic, global event organizer, Informa Markets, took a new approach to create an exciting program for the 2021 show. Based on extensive feedback from past attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, and partners, and using customer-driven insights, the entire FIME platform has been redefined.
This year’s show will include an online experience as well as an in-person event, offering an even more robust program to maximize investment and participation. The online networking series will run August 2 – October 1, 2021. FIME offers free in-person visitor access to the widest range of new and refurbished medical devices and equipment and hospital technology, as well as opportunities for more interaction, engagement and networking between attendees and participants with the addition of the online component.
The safety of the show’s participants and colleagues is of paramount importance, and as such, the event is being organized in accordance with the industry wide All Secure Standard to ensure safety, hygiene, cleanliness and operational effectiveness for all participants. The MBCC has achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ Facility Accreditation, the gold standard for facilities and venues worldwide. Under the guidance of GBAC, MBCC has implemented the most stringent protocols and staff training for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention. At the show, all participants will be required to follow the measures enforced by Informa and the MBCC, including the use of face masks at all times throughout the venue, maintaining social distancing in line with government guidance, and submitting to a temperature check upon arrival.
“Miami Beach is enacting the strongest health measures as we continue to safely welcome visitors from around the country and world,” shared Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber. “That is why we are proud and excited for FIME to return to our city once again to enjoy all our beautiful community has to offer.”
FIME attendees will experience first-hand and in-person the latest technologies, including digital wearable devices, patient monitoring apps, disposable products, and telemedicine systems. In addition to showcasing some of the latest industry technologies, FIME connects manufacturers and service providers with healthcare providers, clinicians, procurement professionals, and dealers and distributors from throughout the United States and Latin America. In catering to the Latin America market, some of the conferences and seminars will be presented in Spanish as well as in English.
Exhibitors are excited to return to Miami Beach for the 2021 event. Ken Spett, President & Chief Executive Officer, GF Health Products, Inc. says, “Graham-Field has participated in every live FIME event since its inception, and this year will be no exception. We are anxious to reunite with our distributor partners and understand how personal relationships contribute to our mutual success.”
The return of FIME to Miami, not only marks an important milestone in the return to live trade events, but also demonstrates the economic impact these events have. According to the Greater Miami Visitors and Convention Bureau (GMCVB), in Miami Beach alone, trade shows and meetings in 2019 brought in $260.8 million, through 734 meetings and conventions, 530,791 attendees and 480,000 room nights booked. These events are not only necessary for the industry and its members, but also an integral component of the business ecosystem, and FIME hopes to lead by example, encouraging others to make a valiant return to the circuit.
In addition to FIME, Informa Markets has successfully hosted or plans to host several large in-person events in the United States this year, including:
- MAGIC Pop-Up Orlando (February 2021)

Marcial’s new book Condenado a Morir en Libertad, a riveting tale about a condemned man’s redeeming journey from damnation and toil
NEW YORK, May 19, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The book Condenado a Morir en Libertad was created by Marcial. Marcial is an author and a Doctor of Jurisprudence with a master’s degree in legal sciences from the Administration of Justice. He is also a specialist in business law.
Marcial said this about her book: “Marcial is sentenced to the death penalty for multiple murders, aggravated by cannibalism, by eating part of the face and chest of one of his victims. His state of unconsciousness, produced by the ingestion of a drug, is the trigger that shows the difference between the normal unconsciousness in which most of humanity lives, with respect to the unconsciousness due to the effect of drugs that potentiate the beast into which he becomes the person, when his soul forgets definitively what he is, to fall into the delusions of the ego as happens in almost all of people’s lives, which leads them to seek happiness in what is obtained or in what it does.
Man is a spiritual being, endowed with soul and body. When the soul remains immobile, it deteriorates; like water that being a symbol of purity and a source of life, stagnant rots and becomes a source of contagion and death. The soul that does not choose the spirit within each one in which he lives goes straight to death, dragging everything he encounters in his path, including the beings he claims to love. However, there is always hope; and this is what happens with Marcial, who walks to death but who, in the end, manages to head down the path to truth.”
Published by Page Publishing, Marcial’s new book Condenado a Morir en Libertad follows the redeeming moments of a man condemned for a horrendous crime that challenges his being and spiritual fortitude.
Consumers who wish to venture into a thought-provoking adventure toward discovering the essence of humanity, the soul, and the truth can purchase Condenado a Morir en Libertad in any bookstore or online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

All-new Kia EV6 crossover ushers in new era of electric driving excitement
IRVINE, Calif., May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The all-new 2022 Kia EV6 crossover arrives as the brand’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV). The introduction of EV6 signals the U.S. launch of Kia’s ‘Plan S’ strategy that will deliver 11 all-new electrified models across the world by 2026.

Starting with the EV6, Kia’s EV lineup will carry a unique naming convention. The “EV” designation will be followed by a number that indicates the car’s position in the lineup.
The E-GMP modular platform maximizes development efficiency and enables the Kia brand to expand its dedicated EV portfolio across multiple vehicle segments – sedans, CUVs, SUVs – in a short time and with minimal complexity. The architecture provides an adaptable foundation with a long wheelbase and wide stance.
The EV6’s proportions unify Kia’s all-new “Opposites United” design language and deliver crossover functionality. The visual language combines classic sports car inspiration with high-tech cues, modern CUV styling and a coupe-like profile. The EV6 has the same 114.2-inch wheelbase as the Kia Telluride, and compares with the width of a Ford Mustang Mach E and the wheelbase and ground clearance of a Tesla Model Y.
The EV platform also enables jaw-dropping performance, AWD capability, ultra-fast charging times. The vehicle delivers up to an estimated 300-miles of all-electric range (AER), vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, and a flat-floor interior that utilizes sustainable materials throughout the cabin. The EV6 also offers a wide array of advanced driver assistance systems, adding an unprecedented level of connectivity and safety.
“The EV6 marks a new and transformative era in Kia electrification,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America, Kia America. “This innovative crossover leverages the many benefits of its advanced platform to offer a level of technological excitement and convenience that will provide a superb ownership experience.”
The first EV6 models are expected to go on sale in early 2022 in all 50 states with the GT arriving in late 2022.
EV6 First Edition
In a first for the brand, Kia will offer a special EV6 First Edition available by advanced reservation at Kia.com starting June 3. Limited to just 1,500 units, the EV6 First Edition offers the styling of the standard design, which includes exterior details such as black wheel arches in a fully loaded package. The Augmented Reality (AR) Head-Up Display, Remote Smart Parking Assist, wide sunroof, 20-inch wheels, premium 14-speaker Meridian audio system and a two-year subscription to SiriusXM[7] are among the upgrades in the EV6 First Edition, along with dual-motor AWD and a 77.4 kWh battery.
Three unique color combinations include Glacier with dark green seats, Urban Yellow with black seats, and Steel Gray Matte with black seats. The First Edition will be the only way to get the look of the Steel Matte Gray paint on an EV6 with the standard design while the Urban Yellow exterior color will be exclusive to the First Edition. Completing the aesthetic are illuminated door sills with the First Edition designation, along with a numbered interior badge highlighting the limited production volume.
‘Opposites United’ CUV Design
Imagined, penned, and brought to life by Kia’s three design studios in Seoul, Frankfurt and Irvine, California, the EV6 crossover is a worldwide collaboration inspired by a new design philosophy called ‘Opposites United,’ which takes its cues and inspirations from the contrasts found in nature and everyday life. Key design elements include:
- “Digital Tiger” grille form serves as Kia’s new tiger nose design
- Headlamps offer sequential dynamic light pattern
- Flush exterior door handles
- High rear deck serves as a spoiler
- Cross-car rear light cluster
- Wheel sizes will be available in 19, 20 or 21-inches
A Foundation for the Electric Age
E-GMP serves as the core technology for the next generation of Kia EVs. Highlights include:
- Rear-wheel-biased; available AWD capability with front electric motor
- Strong body structure utilizing 75 percent high-strength steel (HSS) and ultra-high strength steel (UHSS)
- Five-link rear suspension
- World’s first mass-produced integrated drive axle (IDA) to enhance ride comfort and handling, combining wheel bearings with the drive shaft to save weight
- A long wheelbase and short overhangs maximize interior space with flat floor, no tunnel layout
- Underfloor mounted battery placement enables low center of gravity for stability
Battery Tech for Superb Performance, Extended Range, Fast Charging and Innovative V2L
At the heart of EV6 is an energy-dense Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (80/10/10) battery pack available in two sizes: 58.0 kWh and 77.4 kWh. The low-mounted, underfloor pack delivers energy to both RWD and AWD electric motor layouts with varying horsepower at the front and rear axles. AWD gives EV6 the traction and capability befitting a CUV.
EV6 offers up to 576 horsepower and an extended AER up to a targeted 300 miles across several configurations (AER for specific drivetrain configurations will be announced closer to the EV6’s on-sale date):
- RWD: 58.0 kWh battery with a 160kW rear motor yields 167 horsepower

Innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality makes EV6 a power source on wheels to support everything from computers to home improvement projects to camping and tailgating. Electricity flows from the high-energy battery to an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), providing 1900 watts of power to electrical appliances, devices, tools and recreational equipment. The system highlights include:
- 110V power outlet located in a socket on front of second row seat base; adapter to draw power from the external charge port
- From a full charge, power can be drawn from the vehicle for 36 or more consecutive hours[8]
- EV6 is able to charge vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) at 1.1 kW, equivalent to a 110V charger

Kia America Debuts in US.
IRVINE, Calif., May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Following the January global reveal of Kia’s dynamic new logo and brand relaunch, Kia Motors America is using the North American debut of its transformative electric vehicle, the EV6, to officially adopt the global Kia Plan S strategy and change its corporate name to Kia America. The new name is the most visible component of a complete brand transformation and follows Kia Motors Corporation’s recent change of name to Kia Corporation.
Plan S, or Plan Shift, is Kia’s ambitious $25 billion transformative strategy. Plan S includes sustainable mobility, delivery vehicles and personal transport solutions through Kia’s PBV platform as well as developing Kia’s Mobility as a Service strategy. Plan S will also see the launch of 11 EVs on a global basis by 2026. The first advanced-platform EV as part of Plan S will be the EV6, set to go on sale in U.S. in early 2022.
“This is an important and inspiring time in Kia’s history,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia America and Kia North America. “On a global scale, our brand is sharpening its identity, and defining a sustainable, purposeful strategy within existing, new and to-be -developed vehicle segments as well as larger efforts we are now ready to pursue. Today’s announcement signals that Kia in the US is fully aligned with Kia Corporation’s global strategy and primed for continued success.”

The new logo resembles a handwritten signature and will continue to roll out on all 2022 vehicles. The design of the new logo is simple but dramatically effective: the rising movement of the two diagonal strokes are accentuated by beveled ends and reveals an unexpected subtext, “Ki,” or “to rise.” Narrow connections between the characters emphasize the power and energy of movement, and the wide proportions of the three vertical pillars reinforce stability and provide a confident and balanced appearance.
The new strategy announcement comes as Kia celebrate two consecutive best-ever US sales months in March and April, 2021.
Kia America forms part of Kia North America, which includes Kia America’s headquarters in Irvine, CA and Kia’s manufacturing facility in West Point, GA. Kia North America also includes the brand’s presence in Canada and Mexico, including the manufacturing facility in Nuevo León, Mexico. Kia Corporation operates the Kia Design Center America in Irvine, CA and R&D facilities across the U.S.

Foundation urges CDC to issue guidelines for immune compromised patients and study need for booster vaccines
NEW YORK, May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In light of new CDC masking guidance issued last week indicating that people who are fully vaccinated can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, the National Kidney Foundation urges patients with advanced kidney disease, including transplant and dialysis patients and patients requiring immunosuppression for treatment of kidney disease, to continue masking and practice social distancing, even if they are fully vaccinated. A new study published in the medical journal JAMA indicates that people with solid organ transplants, like kidney transplants, and others who are immune compromised, such as dialysis patients, may not receive the same level of antibody immunity from the COVID-19 vaccine as other people. The new study indicated that 46% of solid organ transplant patients had no antibody immunity from the vaccine but other patients did have some immunity. The study did not evaluate cell-mediated immunity which is also important for vaccine protection.

“As more of the nation starts to forego mask wearing in public places, people who are immune compromised, such as transplant and dialysis patients, must continue to protect themselves even after vaccination,” said Joseph Vassalotti, MD, Chief Medical Officer, National Kidney Foundation. “While this small and preliminary study indicates that the COVID-19 vaccine appears to be less effective for transplant patients or others who are immune compromised, half of the participants did receive some protection from the vaccine. Kidney patients and members of their households should still get vaccinated. We are still learning about how well vaccines protect kidney patients, so some extra caution during this time is important.”
In a letter sent today to the CDC, NKF urged that the agency develop new guidelines for immune compromised patients on masking and social distancing even if they are vaccinated. In addition, NKF is urging the CDC to urgently conduct research on the effectiveness of the vaccine in immune compromised patients and to conduct studies to determine if a booster shot may be required to offer more protection from COVID-19.
“Many vaccines do not offer the same protection to immune compromised patients as the general public. Given COVID-19 can be deadly, it’s important that kidney patients get the vaccine while still continuing to protect ourselves until further studies on vaccine efficacy are conducted,” said Kevin Longino, CEO, National Kidney Foundation and a kidney transplant patient. “The vaccine may not be as effective in people like us, but it may still help reduce the severity of the virus including hospitalizations and death.”
Immune compromised patients who become infected with COVID-19 should seek treatment with antibody therapy right away and not wait for symptoms to develop.
“If kidney patients become infected with COVID-19 it’s critical to speak with their doctor to start antibody therapy right away,” added Dr. Vassalotti. “While we’re all ready to get back to normal, until the country has herd or population immunity, patients with advanced kidney disease including transplant and dialysis patients or patients requiring immunosuppression for treatment of their kidney disease should continue masking and social distancing even if you’re fully vaccinated.”

Kidney Disease Facts
In the United States, 37 million adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease—and approximately 90 percent don’t know they have it. 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. are at risk for chronic kidney disease. Risk factors for kidney disease include: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and family history. People of Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian American, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander descent are at increased risk for developing the disease. Blacks or African Americans are almost 4 times more likely than White Americans to have kidney failure. Hispanics are 1.3 times more likely than non-Hispanics to have kidney failure.
Approximately 750,000 Americans have irreversible kidney failure and need dialysis or a kidney transplant to survive. More than 500,000 of these patients receive dialysis at least three times per week to replace kidney function. Nearly 100,000 Americans are on the waitlist for a kidney transplant right now. Depending on where a patient lives, the average wait time for a kidney transplant can be upwards of three to seven years.

SBS Unveils Virtual 2021 Hispanic Media Upfront: It Happens Here
MIAMI, May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) (OTCQX: SBSAA), the leading Hispanic-owned and minority certified multimedia and entertainment company in the U.S., unveiled today its virtual 2021 upfront: It Happens Here. Through a series of curated videos, SBS executives discuss how the company’s culturally relevant audio, digital, video and live music experiences have successfully engaged U.S. Hispanics for over four decades while also serving as a springboard for the careers of many popular Latin music artists and celebrities.

Raúl Alarcon, Chairman of SBS, stated, “Now more than ever, it’s imperative for brands to have a Hispanic media marketing strategy to grow their business. We are leaders in developing multi-platform, culturally relevant content and experiences that connect our audience to their Latino roots and celebrate their heritage. If brands want to make an authentic connection with our community, the message is loud and clear: As far as Latino culture and entertainment is concerned, it happens here at Spanish Broadcasting System.”
The company’s It Happens Here virtual upfront will provide viewers a deeper understanding of the power, reach, distribution and content of Spanish Broadcasting System and it’s multimedia portfolio as well as upcoming ’21-22 opportunities for brand integrations through innovative, scalable cross-platform solutions to reach the diverse Latino market.
“As we recover and rebuild from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we also wanted to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the Latino community,” said Albert Rodriguez, COO of Spanish Broadcasting System. “Empowering, entertaining and uplifting the Latino community is at the core of everything we do and we want the world to know that we have the leadership, the team, content and the platform that effectively reaches and culturally engages over 25 million Latinos on a weekly basis.”
“We are proud to be the only Hispanic-owned and operated multimedia company as certified by the National Minority Supplier Development Council, and to be serving the largest minority group in the nation, which represents 18% of the U.S. population,” touted Elisa Torres, EVP of AIRE Radio Networks and SBS National Sales. “We’re the tastemakers and masterminds behind all of the content and programming that addresses Latino cultural nuances, because we are the audience. If brands are looking to reach Hispanics effectively and authentically, we want them to know that “It Happens Here at SBS.”
The concept of “It Happens Here” derived from the fact that SBS has been the home of many ‘first’ experiences for Latin artists, celebrities and listeners alike. The first time Jennifer Lopez performed live in her home state, New York, was at a Mega concert at Madison Square Garden. SBS was one of the first stations to play J Balvin and Ozuna’s music, and the first time Luis Fonsi performed his hit Diamond status single, “Despacito,” live was at the SBS upfront presentation in 2019 – the same upfront where Karol G, who is now recognized as one of the biggest female names in reggaeton music, also performed. Listeners often call in to SBS local stations to share that their first live Latin music concert was an SBS Entertainment event or the first time they heard their favorite artists was on their favorite SBS audio station.
“From megastars like Julio Iglesias, Vicente Fernandez, Camilo Sesto, Jose Luis Rodriguez, to the superstars of today like J. Balvin, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Marc Anthony and Ozuna, to the as yet undiscovered artists of tomorrow, we’re also extremely proud to be the launching platform for some of the biggest artists in Latin music, a genre defined as a global sound,” continued Alarcón.
