StarKist® Sourcing 100% of its Tuna and Salmon from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) Fisheries

StarKist_Co_Logo

PITTSBURGH, April 22, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — StarKist Co. announced today that it has achieved a goal to source 100% of its tuna and salmon from sustainable sources.  All tuna and salmon procured by StarKist® are purchased from third-party suppliers that meet the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard for sustainable fishing or are working toward certification, including those participating in a comprehensive, time bound Fishery Improvement Project (FIP).

“StarKist is proud to be the industry leader and consumers can be assured that all of our wild-caught tuna and salmon products are responsibly sourced and certified. StarKist is the first major U.S. tuna and salmon producer to reach this milestone,” said Andrew Choe, President & CEO, StarKist Co. “StarKist has been in business for more than 100 years.  We believe that operating a socially and environmentally responsible business is essential for the ongoing success of the StarKist business and the food industry.”

Recent research2 shows canned/pouched fish consumers are more concerned about the health of the oceans than the average seafood consumer. Eighty-seven percent of canned seafood consumers want better information so they can be confident they’re not buying unsustainable fish or seafood products, and two thirds of canned seafood consumers are demanding independent labeling of environmental claims.

MSC is a global nonprofit organization recognized as the world’s leading certification and ecolabeling program for sustainable, wild-caught seafood. As a partner of the MSC initiative, StarKist and its tuna and salmon brands are working to meet strict guidelines in which all of its products are traceable back to an MSC certified sustainable source.  MSC certification revolves around three core pillars: sustainable fish stocks, minimal environmental impact, and effective fisheries management. All the parties in the StarKist supply chain will meet standards set by MSC, to make sure StarKist procures and sells only sustainable seafood. This prevents possible seafood mislabeling or fraud and assures that consumers are getting the product that is listed on packaging.

“The choices we make have a ripple effect – like choosing certified sustainable seafood for a healthy ocean,” said Jackie Marks, Senior Public Relations Manager, Marine Stewardship Council. “We’re proud of StarKist, an industry leader, for its commitment and ongoing dedication to providing American consumers with MSC certified sustainable tuna and salmon so they know they’re getting seafood that’s good for them and good for the ocean.”

StarKist is committed to safeguarding the world’s fish stocks.  The company adheres to the regulations and rules to ensure there is enough fish to supply the global economy. As one of its founding members, StarKist will continue to work with the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation, in addition to the certification initiatives with the Marine Stewardship Council.

The MSC standard was established in 1997 and is the only wild caught seafood standard and ecolabeling program to meet United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) guidelines, as well as meet Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) benchmarking criteria. The standards used to evaluate fisheries have been developed in deliberation with scientists, industry, and conservation groups, and reflect the most up-to-date fisheries science and management practices.

About StarKist Co.

StarKist Co. provides trusted, healthy, food products in the United States. An industry innovator, StarKist was the first brand to introduce single-serve pouch products, which include Tuna Creations®, Salmon Creations® and Chicken Creations®.  As America’s favorite tuna, StarKist represents a tradition of quality, consumer trust and a commitment to sustainability. StarKist’s charismatic brand icon, Charlie® the Tuna, swam into the hearts of tuna fans in 1961 and is still a fan favorite today. StarKist Co. is a direct wholly owned subsidiary of Dongwon Industries Co., Ltd.

About MSC

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international non-profit organization. Our vision is for the ocean to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. The MSC certification program and blue fish label on packaging recognizes and rewards sustainable fishing practices and is helping create a more sustainable seafood market.

The MSC blue fish label means a product is:

  • From a wild-catch fishery which has been independently certified against the MSC’s science-based standard for environmentally sustainable fishing.
  • Fully traceable along the supply chain to a sustainable source.

More than 400 fisheries in over 34 countries are MSC certified. These fisheries represent approximately 17% of marine wild catch engaged with the MSC program (certified or in assessment). More than 18,000 seafood products worldwide carry the MSC blue fish label, with more than 1,000 in the US. For more information visit msc.org and follow @MSCbluefish on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Type S Origin Story: A Look Back at Acura’s Type S History

0
With Type S performance models set to return to the Acura lineup, a new video released today celebrates the history of Type S and the iconic vehicles that have worn the high-performance badge.

TORRANCE, Calif., April 21, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — With Type S performance models set to return to the Acura lineup, a new video released today celebrates the history of Type S and the iconic vehicles that have worn the high-performance badge. From 2001 through 2008, Type S models played a significant role in Acura’s performance lineup. Type S variants of the CL, TL and RSX delivered a dynamic driving experience with more power, improved handling and stronger braking, all without sacrificing the creature comforts and daily drivability of the core models.

Type S Origin Story: https://youtu.be/cajI-DbSe5o

The concept for Type S performance models began with the 1997 NSX Type S in Japan, which led Honda R&D engineers in America to create a prototype coupe called the AC-R.

“The AC-R was basically a show car capable of 166 mph and 1.0g of grip on a skidpad, but its real value was getting everyone inside the company jazzed about creating this kind of model under the Acura brand,” said Erik Berkman, former President, Honda R&D Americas, LLC and the development leader of the AC-R and the original Type S models. “Ultimately, we decided to bake all of that goodness into the Acura CL and the result was the 3.2CL Type S, the first Type S in North America.”

This spring, Type S returns in an exciting way with the 2021 TLX Type S followed later in the year by the upcoming MDX Type S – the first Acura SUV to wear the Type S badge.

Acura Type S Model History

  • 2001-2003 Acura 3.2CL Type S: The Type S performance line debuted in North America with the 2001 3.2CL Type S. The high-performance coupe featured a 3.2-liter V6 engine with 260 horsepower (upgraded from the standard CL’s 225 hp), a 5-speed automatic with a manual shift function, quicker steering, 17-inch wheels and tires and a sport-tuned suspension. In its final model year, a 6-speed manual transmission was available. More information on the 2001 Acura 3.2CL Type S.
  • 2002-2003 Acura 3.2TL Type S: Debuting a year after the coupe, the 3.2TL Type S sedan featured the same performance-tuned 3.2-liter engine including its innovative dual-stage induction system, a 5-speed automatic with a manual shift function, and similar suspension, wheel and tire upgrades. More information on the 2002 Acura 3.2TL Type S.
  • 2002-2006 Acura RSX Type S: The RSX Type S also joined the family in 2002, powered by a new 2.0-liter i-VTEC® 4-cylinder with 200 horsepower (upgraded from the standard RSX’s 160 hp) connected exclusively to a 6-speed manual transmission. In 2005, the RSX Type S received a power boost to 210 horsepower, with styling changes that included a larger eye-catching rear wing. More information on the 2002 Acura RSX Type S.
  • 2007-2008 Acura TL Type S: The third-generation Acura TL rejoined the Type S lineup in 2007 powered by a 3.5-liter V6 making 286 horsepower (upgraded from the standard TL’s 3.2-liter V6 with 258 hp). A 6-speed manual transmission, 4-piston Brembo brakes, sport suspension, upgraded wheels and tires and distinctive quad exhaust were all standard. More information on the 2007 Acura TL Type S.

A New Generation of Type S

  • 2021 Acura TLX Type S: Type S returns to Acura showrooms with the all-new TLX Type S, the best performing Acura sedan yet. Powered by the new Type S Turbo V6, the TLX Type S boasts 355-horsepower, 354-lb.-ft. of torque, a quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, standard torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (a Type S first), a sport tuned suspension and Brembo® front brakes. More information on the 2021 Acura TLX Type S.
  • 2022 Acura MDX Type S: The first Acura SUV to ever wear the Type S badge, the 2022 MDX Type S builds on the critically acclaimed and all-new fourth-generation MDX, Acura’s new flagship model. The MDX Type S will be powered by the 355-horsepower Type S Turbo V6, and will also feature standard SH-AWD®. More details about the MDX Type S will be available closer to its launch. More information on the 2022 MDX.

Alcoholics Anonymous: CONCERNED ABOUT A DRINKING PROBLEM?

0
Alcoholics Anonymous. Visit www.aa.org for more information.

NEW YORK, April 21, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — We hated to admit that we could never drink safely.  But in A.A. we finally gave up trying to control our drinking.  What once had felt like a “solution” to our problems had become a “problem” beyond what we could ever have imagined. And often we were the last to know.

Alcoholics Anonymous. Visit www.aa.org for more information.

We discovered that we had an illness called alcoholism – often referred to by the medical community as “Alcohol Use Disorder.”

We found out that many people suffered from the same feelings of guilt, loneliness and hopelessness that we did.

We decided to get honest about what alcohol had done to us. And we shared our experience, strength and hope with others. And we have recovered by helping others do likewise. Without expense and never as reformers, we offer our experience only to those who want our help.

We in A.A. believe alcoholism is a disease that is no respecter of age, gender, creed, race, wealth, occupation, or education. Our experience shows that anyone can be an alcoholic. And, beyond question, anyone who wants to stop drinking is welcome in A.A.

Our sole object in publicity is to offer alcoholics who still suffer from this baffling malady a chance to get well.  Individually, on media platforms at the public level, we are an “anonymous” group. We prefer to share about the program of A.A. rather than the “personalities” of the people who may be in it. Understanding that, newcomers are less reluctant about approaching us. If an A.A. member is identified in the media, we use first names only (such as Sofia M. or Ben T.) and only non-identifiable images. This helps to provide members with the security that anonymity can bring.

Whether in person or online — if you have a drinking problem — A.A. may be able to help.  (There are no dues or fees.)

Created by and starring Kiki Melendez (Hot Tamales Live!/Showtime) and Vicki Barbolak (America’s Got Talent/NBC), it features Crystal Powell (AGT/NBC), with host Jessica Camacho (All Rise/CBS), and special guest, Rene Rosado (The Connors/ABC).

Black Girl Magic stars African American female power houses, Brooklyn Jones, Alycia Cooper, Just Nesh, Kelly Kellz, with host Ashima Franklin, who will perform in their unique styles.

Reinas de la Risa, a Spanish-language stand-up show features the Caribbean’s top female comics Cheddy García, Zulema Cruz, Jaquelio Estrella and Melendez, introduces Jinita Luciano, and is hosted by Anderson Mercedes.

Comedian-actor, Jochy Jochy will open with his 100 best jokes.

“With this series, I wanted to continue to give talented women a platform to reach audiences worldwide,” said series co-creator Melendez.

Ramon Monchi Herrera, (Locos por la Playa) will direct the specials, with producers Erica Barrabi, Julia Carias Linares, and associate producers, Douglas Santiago, Thomas Echavarría and Armando Guareno.

“Maverick Entertainment is proud to support women in comedy,” said Doug Schwab, President of Maverick Entertainment. “We look forward to releasing these stand-up specials showcasing multi-cultural women front and center.”
