SHORT HILLS, N.J., Sept. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) announced today the launch of three Spanish-language webinars in celebration of SCI Awareness Month and Hispanic Heritage Month.

“Developing a webinar series for our Spanish-speaking audience was an important step in creating an educational opportunity and cultivating representation in the Spanish-speaking paralysis community. We wanted to ensure a safe space for people living with paralysis, their loved ones, and caregivers to learn more about the PRC programs and services; while working with organizations that could provide critical information during these times,” says, Freddy Perez, the Associate for Community Outreach.

Our speakers come from a variety of organizations. On September 15, 2020, we have Yessica M. Guardiola-Marrero of the Northeast ADA Center. The Northeast ADA Center (NEADAC) is one of the ten ADA Regional Centers that make up the ADA National Network, funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research. The goal of the NEADAC is to provide information guidance and training on the implementation of all aspects of the ADA across communities, businesses, and individual lives. Ms. Guardiola-Marrero will be talking about the 30th Anniversary of the ADA, along with its impact on the lives of Hispanics living with physical disabilities.

A week later, on September 22, 2020, we have Betzaida Ramos, Executive Director of Movimiento para el Alcance de Vida Independiente (MAVI), a former Quality of Life Grant Recipient. MAVI is an independent living center with more than 32 years’ experience providing services to people with diverse disabilities in Puerto Rico. Ms. Ramos will be talking about the importance of Independent Living Centers, its services, and the critical role they play during moments of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lastly, our Reeve Spanish Webinar series will wrap up on September 29, 2020, with the National Coalition for Latinx with Disabilities (NCLD). NCLD is a 100% volunteer, national organization dedicated to affirming, celebrating, and collectively uplifting Latinxs with disabilities through community building, advocacy, protection of rights, resources, and education. Dr. Lisette Torres and Catalina Galvan will be discussing key issues affecting the Hispanic community and how-to self-advocate.

The three webinars will cover important topics such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and its impact on Hispanic communities, the importance of the independent living movement and its critical services during a pandemic, as well as ways to advocate for a variety of issues that are important to the Hispanic community. These webinars will be exclusively in Spanish, and we ask our community to join us. Registration details can be found by visiting our events page, www.ChristopherReeve.org/Events

Limited in Number, Not Style: 2021 RC Black Line

Lexus’ successful Black Line Special Edition treatment is available on RC 300 and RC 350. Based on the F SPORT grade, the 350-unit Black Line models reflect Lexus’ core values of omotenashi (Japanese for anticipatory hospitality) and takumi craftsmanship with their unique premium finishes that will surely elicit attention from passengers and passersby alike.

Each Black Line Special Edition arrives with standard Premium Triple-Beam LED headlamps. The headlamps’ eye-catching design does more than illuminate the road ahead – it impresses at every turn. The special Lexus Black Line Zero Halliburton luggage includes an Edge Lightweight 22-inch Continental Carry-on and a 26-inch Medium Travel Case.

Three Forms of Power

The RC 300 is powered by a highly responsive 2.0-liter, twin-scroll turbocharged and intercooled in-line four-cylinder engine with direct injection. The surge of power in the 241-horsepower. RC 300 doesn’t let up thanks to the Lexus engineers who spent years researching, developing, and refining its turbocharger. Generating 258 lb-ft of torque from 1,650 to 4,400 rpm, the engine is paired to a rear-wheel drive system and an eight-speed Sport Direct-Shift automatic transmission, and is easy on fuel consumption, with a 30 miles-per-gallon highway preliminary estimate.

The RC 300 AWD pairs a six-speed automatic transmission with a 260-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Featuring Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, the engine is designed to provide added torque at lower speeds and greater horsepower at higher speeds. These refinements combine to generate 236 lb-ft of torque from 2,000 to 4,800 rpm.

The RC 350 and RC 350 AWD’s 311-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 generates 280 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm and boasts direct and port fuel injection, not to mention, an awe-inspiring sound reminiscent of the LFA supercar. The all-wheel drive RC 350 features a six-speed automatic transmission, while the rear-wheel drive model is equipped with an eight-speed Sport Direct-Shift transmission. And in the rear-wheel drive F SPORT, an available Torsen limited-slip rear differential helps maximize drivers’ ability to power out of corners. The RC 350 can accelerate from 0 to 60 in an estimated 5.8 seconds (RWD) and 6.0 seconds (AWD).

Interior Details Further Refine the RC Experience

From meticulous stitching to distinctive wood trims, the RC delivers an ideal combination of performance and luxury.

While every bit a performance cockpit, the interior of the RC envelops the driver and passengers in stunning craftsmanship. The available perforated trim epitomizes evocative style and sophistication, while Linear Espresso and Linear Dark Mocha wood accents offer unparalleled artistry. An analog clock and expressive gauges give the elegant cabin an extra level of refinement. Individual settings for climate control allow the driver and front passenger to adjust their preferred temperatures. And, to help ensure that the cabin stays as fresh as it is beautiful, a smog-sensing system automatically switches into recirculation mode if it senses high levels of pollutants outside.

In all, there are seven exclusive interior color combinations available, including those for the F Sport.

Enhanced Peace of Mind: Standard BSM with RCTA

The once available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (BSM with RCTA) is now standard across all RC models. To help guests change lanes with confidence, BSM is designed to detect and warn drivers of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes. Additionally, RCTA can help guests when backing out of a parking space by notifying them of vehicles approaching from either side.

BSM with RCTA adds to the RC’s impressive list of advanced safety technologies, which includes the standard Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+). Lexus Safety System+ is designed to help pave the way to a world with fewer collisions and better-informed drivers. An integrated suite of advanced active safety equipment, the system is designed to help in certain circumstances, from providing pedestrian alerts to preventing lane drift.

LSS+ includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Intelligent High Beams.

Lexus’ passion for brave design, imaginative technology, and exhilarating performance enables the luxury lifestyle brand to create amazing experiences for its guests. Lexus began its journey in 1989 with two luxury sedans and a commitment to pursue perfection. Since then, Lexus has developed its lineup to meet the needs of global luxury customers in more than 90 countries. In the United States, Lexus vehicles are sold through 242 dealers offering a full lineup of luxury vehicles. With six models incorporating Lexus Hybrid Drive, Lexus is the luxury hybrid leader. Lexus also offers eight F SPORT models and two F performance models. Lexus is committed to being a visionary brand that anticipates the future for luxury customers.

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The 2021 Honda Civic Type R begins arriving in dealers today, heightened by the addition later this month of the ultimate street-legal Type R, the Limited Edition. Since its U.S. debut in 2017, Civic Type R has quickened the pulses of hot-hatch enthusiasts, earning widespread praise from media and owners alike. The new Limited Edition model turns up Type R performance further still, with lower weight, improved handling, a higher-performance wheel and tire combination, and an exclusive, eye-catching Phoenix Yellow paint.

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R begins arriving in dealers today, heightened by the addition later this month of the ultimate street-legal Type R, the Limited Edition. Since its debut in 2017, Civic Type R has quickened the pulses of hot-hatch enthusiasts, earning widespread praise from media and owners alike. The new Limited Edition turns up Type R performance further still, with lower weight, improved handling, a higher-performance wheel and tire combination, and exclusive Phoenix Yellow paint.

The 2021 Civic Type R comes with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $37,495, while the Type R Limited Edition has an MSRP of $43,995 (neither including the $955 destination and handling charge). With only 600 Limited Edition units available, it is recommended buyers contact their local authorized dealerships directly for availability of this exclusive model.

The 2021 Type R Limited Edition will come in an exclusive Phoenix Yellow color, with gloss black paint on the roof, outside mirror caps, and intake vent on the hood, along with a dark chrome Civic badge on the rear hatch. Inside, each Limited Edition has a special numbered plaque on the center console designating its build number.

The 2021 Civic Type R and Type R Limited Edition carry forward the numerous updates made to the 2020 Type R, including the freshened front and rear exterior styling, larger grille opening and radiator for improved engine cooling, and interior updates such as the Alcantara™-wrapped steering wheel, and a new weighted shift knob. Both feature the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard equipment, including Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collison Warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

TYPE R LIMITED EDITION
The 2021 Type R Limited Edition embodies multiple engineering and feature changes designed to maximize performance, without sacrificing Type R’s unique combination of razor-sharp performance and civilized daily-driving manners.

Racers know that reducing weight is key to better performance at the track, which is why a number of measures were taken to reduce the curb weight of the Type R Limited Edition by 46 pounds versus the standard Type R.

Replacing the standard Type R wheels with lightweight forged-aluminum alloys from BBS saves the Type R Limited Edition an additional 18 pounds of unsprung weight, which has an important impact on agility and roadholding with a side benefit to ride comfort. The lighter weight results in lower rotational inertia, an effect amplified by lightweight two-piece floating front brake rotors that were applied to all Type Rs in 2020, which yielded a 2.5 pounds of weight savings per side. Going further still, 28 pounds of sound deadening materials have been removed from the roof, rear hatch panel, and front fenders and dash; even the cargo cover, rear heater ducts and rear wiper mechanism were removed to save weight.

The Type R Limited Edition also features grade-exclusive Michelin Cup 2 tires with improved cornering performance2. To take full advantage of the lighter weight wheels and extra-grippy tires, Limited Edition features unique programming for the Active Damper System (ADS), which was already updated just last year to sample inputs 10 times faster the before. Similarly, the electrically assisted power steering has been reprogrammed to match the elevated dynamic performance and lighter weight of the BBS alloys. The result is an even more rewarding driving experience, especially during on-track driving.

Under the hood, the 2021 Civic Type R and Type R Limited Edition draw power from the same race-bred 2.0-liter direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with VTEC™ valvetrain, putting out a peak 306-horseopwer (SAE net) and a peak 295 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net), with power to the front wheels delivered through a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Both Type R models allow drivers to choose between three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and +R – that vary throttle mapping, damping force and steering assist.

Suzuka Track Record
The Civic Type R Limited Edition (European spec) recently stormed to a new front-wheel drive track record at Suzuka Circuit, Honda’s Formula 1 racetrack in Japan, with a time of 2 minutes 23.993 seconds. Originally built as a test facility for Honda, the 3.6-mile Suzuka track’s figure-8 configuration today is known worldwide as a highlight of the Formula 1 season as a driver and fan favorite. McDonald’s Is Awarding $1 Million In Scholarships To Assist Hispanic Students During Pandemic

0
McD_HACER_infographic_EN

CHICAGO, Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — McDonald’s is proud to announce the company’s “HACER® More Scholarship,” that is providing 100 additional scholarships for Hispanic students as an extension of the annual HACER® National Scholarship. Through HACER, McDonald’s is committing $1 million to assist Hispanic students this academic year, by helping alleviate the stress of higher education costs.

According to the Pew Research Center, half of Hispanics said they worry daily or nearly every day about financial issues like paying their bills, the amount of debt they carry and the cost of health care, and more1. The increased financial strain caused by the pandemic has also created uncertainty as parents and students work to fund and continue higher education. As a result, McDonald’s created the “HACER® More Scholarship” to help more students pursue college degrees despite the pandemic. So, in 2020, 100 additional scholarships will be awarded, bringing the total to 130, versus 30 in 2019. The additional scholarship recipients will be selected from the 2019 HACER National Scholarship pool of applicants that meet the existing criteria for the scholarship and will be enrolled in school for spring of 2021. “HACER® More Scholarship” recipients will be selected this October, allowing them to use the funds for the current academic year.

“Despite the difficulty of this time, students are showing their resiliency by continuing their education,” said Santiago Negre, HACER® scholarship committee judge and head of McDonald’s National Hispanic Consumer Market Committee. “McDonald’s and our owner/operators are committed to our communities and customers, so we are honored to contribute to the educational pursuits of Hispanic students through the HACER® National Scholarship program, having done so for the last 35 years.”

The McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship is one of the largest programs committed to college scholarships. Since 1985, it has awarded $31.5 million to Hispanic college students pursuing their higher education dreams. This year, in addition to receiving scholarships, the 30 winners of the 2020 HACER® National Scholarship received a “tech backpack” that included a laptop, wireless mouse, and headphones—some of the tools needed to succeed in a virtual learning environment.

“It’s a huge relief to know even with the difficulties we’re all facing this year, like adapting to a new way of learning, keeping ourselves and our families safe, and more, that I no longer have to worry about the burden of tuition costs thanks to McDonald’s,” said Vladimir Rosales, one of the 2020 HACER® National Scholarship winners, awarded $100,000 to attend San Jose State University in California. “I’m thankful that this year McDonald’s is not only supporting me in achieving my higher education goals but is also giving another 100 Hispanic students the same opportunity.”

The McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship is just one of many company initiatives created to educate the next generation of youth. This includes the Black & Positively Golden Scholarships for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the McDonald’s/APIA Scholarship program for Asian and Pacific-Islander American students. The Archways to Opportunity program for crew gives eligible employees at participating U.S. restaurants the ability to earn a high school diploma, receive upfront college tuition assistance, access free education/career advising services and learn English as a second language.

Hispanic college-bound high school seniors and their parents are encouraged to visit mcdonalds.com/hacer for additional college resources in English and Spanish and for details on how to apply for the McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship. The scholarship application period for the next academic year opens on October 5, 2020 and runs through February 3, 2021.

MIAMI, Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Ismael Cala, Fernando Anzures and a dozen experts will be offering “The business of being you. A Seminar in Entrepreneurship”, on October 16th and 17th, completely online.

As the largest entrepreneurship seminar in the Americas, it will help participants develop their entrepreneurial mindset for taking actions, to convey the current circumstances, where Covid-19 pandemic has risen uncertainty in businesses; and create new opportunities despite all going on.

According to a recent report by the Partnership for a New American Economy, resident immigrants have founded more than 40% of all companies in the United States. Notable among these are: Apple, Google, AT&T, Budweiser, Colgate, eBay, General Electric and IBM. On the downside, according to Forbes, eight out of every ten new businesses do not last more than 18 months; in other words, their failure rate is 80%.

“The business of being you. A Seminar in Entrepreneurship” will address subjects such as entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, sales, mindful leadership, technology and a vision of the future.

We will count with the expertise of this distinguished panel:

Blue Shield of California and mySidewalk Unveil Innovative “Neighborhood Health Dashboard” To Help Improve Community Health Across the State

Blue Shield of California Logo

OAKLAND, California, Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Blue Shield of California today announced its new “Neighborhood Health Dashboard,” an online tool that will advance public health services, and increase transparency around community health and help address health disparities in California.

Blue Shield of California Logo

The Neighborhood Health Dashboard uses data intelligence from dozens of sources to create a comprehensive picture of a community’s health including: health outcomes, preventative health care, utilization and access, health behaviors, social risk factors, and environment and economic health conditions.

The innovative online tool is available free to the public. The goal is to provide support to organizations and individuals such as community organizations, health advocates, hospitals, physicians, public health officials and policymakers to better understand the health of their neighborhoods and address the needs within their communities. The tool was developed in collaboration with mySidewalk and initially made available to Blue Shield’s Community Health Advocates, including those serving in the L.A. Care Health Plan/Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan Community Resource Center.

“Community health needs assessments are important tools in helping to align disparate organizations in a common strategy to improve the health of the community and address health disparities,” said Peter Long, senior vice president of Healthcare and Community Health Transformation at Blue Shield of California. “By making the data publicly available, anyone can gain a deeper understanding of the unmet social needs in their community and serve the population with increased knowledge about issues that have an impact on people’s health and wellbeing.”

A user can simply enter an address or zip code to generate an interactive, Web-based dashboard that is customized to a zip code level with a unique URL that can be shared with others. The tool includes nearly 100 data indicators that capture a holistic view of a community’s health to help inform advocacy and action for improvement.

“We are proud to work with Blue Shield of California to provide this opportunity to democratize data and align our vision for improving community health across the state,” said Sarah Martin, vice president of Health Solutions for mySidewalk. “Our mission is to empower city leaders and the public with the most complete, clear and real-time understanding of their communities so they can improve and innovate together.”

Most recently, the platform was used to produce California’s Vulnerability Index, which focuses on social and economic vulnerability of communities to start conversations about equitably prioritizing the allocation of resources for COVID-19 recovery efforts. In addition to the health impact of the pandemic on different communities, the report also considers which areas are likely to have a more difficult time recovering from the coronavirus-related shutdowns, job reductions and layoffs.

“The Neighborhood Health Dashboard is a critical resource that will help Community Health Centers in California identify community health needs and align programming and resources accordingly,” said Mike Witte, chief medical officer, California Primary Care Association. “Ultimately, patients and providers of Community Health Centers will benefit when our members and communities are able to collectively work to identify opportunities to improve individual and community level health.”

The Neighborhood Health Dashboard is the latest example of Blue Shield of California’s Health Reimagined initiative. The collaboration with mySidewalk seeks to transform the healthcare system for individuals, families and communities by sharing important information with all Californians to identify local drivers of health inequities that result from historical and systemic injustices including racism, bias, and discrimination.

Conviva Earns Notable Recognitions From The National Committee For Quality Assurance

MIAMI, Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Conviva Care Centers today announced it was recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in the categories of Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and Diabetes Recognition Program (DRP). The celebrated recognitions are a testament to the outstanding care its centers provide to senior patients in Florida and Texas, along with the commitment its physician-led network of more than 300 primary care doctors have to help seniors age well.

The NCQA recognized 60 Conviva centers throughout Florida and Texas for their impact on improving quality of life and reducing healthcare costs. The core of the PCMH model is communicating with patients and families/caregivers—a fundamental mission of Conviva. As a primary care organization that cares for the senior population, Conviva is a healthcare delivery model making a difference.

“We are extremely honored to be recognized by such a prestigious organization,” said Kevin Meriwether, CEO of Conviva. “Our clinicians pride themselves on creating a gold standard of care for seniors to make their lives better. These recognitions speak not only to that goal but also to the overall efficient operations that are evident at every Conviva care center. A PCMH recognition is a standard that benefits practices, clinicians, and patients.”

According to NCQA, the move of payers away from a traditional fee-for-service model to one that rewards integration and quality care is rapidly increasing. They are working with organizations that have a strong infrastructure and quality improvement initiatives as PCMH.

The NCQA Diabetes Recognition Program recognizes clinicians who use evidence-based measures to provide quality care to diabetic patients. In order to earn this accolade, clinicians must submit data to demonstrate that they have met specific criteria for the six clinical performance measures comprising the DRP.

“It is extremely gratifying to receive this honor because it recognizes Conviva for providing the highest level of care,” said Meriwether. “It’s a public declaration and a strong statement that we belong to an elite group of healthcare providers.”
