‘Frozen – Live at the Hyperion,’ a New Stage Musical, Opens May 27, 2016, at Disney California Adventure Park

ANAHEIM, California, March 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion,” a new musical based on Disney’s animated blockbuster film, will open at the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure Park on May 27, 2016.  Audiences will be immersed in the emotional journey of Anna and Elsa with all of the excitement of live theater, in an entertaining musical adaptation that includes elaborate costumes and sets, stunning special effects, show-stopping production numbers and unique theatrical surprises.

Disney Creative Entertainment, the arm of Walt Disney Imagineering responsible for live theatrical entertainment at Disney Parks, is producing “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” with all of the creativity and resources of its predecessor “Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” which ran for a remarkable 13 years, with a total of 14,000 performances to 13 million park guests at the Hyperion Theater.

The 1,873-seat Hyperion is equipped with a backstage facility to support a production of the kind that plays in any venue of that size in the world, as well as the full creativity of Walt Disney Imagineering.

“Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” is based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film “Frozen,” which is the No. 1 animated feature of all time and among the most critically acclaimed animated films. It is the winner of two Academy Awards (2014), for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

“While our production of ‘Frozen‘ will stay true to the heart and soul of the film, we have adapted it for the stage so it’s truly a musical theatre production that befits our beautiful Hyperion Theater,” said Dana Harrel, creative entertainment executive with Walt Disney Imagineering. “The goal of this creative team is to take all audiences – including those that know the film, and those new to these characters – on this exciting and touching adventure with Anna and Elsa.

“We know that for many in the audience — adults and children alike – this production will be a first or rare theatergoing experience.  We undertake this responsibility with seriousness as we adapt the film to the stage.”

The new musical features music and lyrics by the creators of the film score, Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“In Transit,” “Up Here”) and Robert Lopez (“Avenue Q,” “The Book of Mormon,” “Up Here”), and is adapted from the screenplay by four-time Tony® nominee Chad Beguelin (“Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” at Hyperion Theater; Broadway: “Gotta Dance,” “Aladdin,” “The Wedding Singer,” “Elf”).

Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” is directed by Liesl Tommy, who is currently represented on Broadway with “Eclipsed,” starring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong‘o. The choreographer is Christopher Windom and this is his seventh collaboration with Tommy.  The musical supervisor/arranger/adaptor is Jason Michael Webb, whose Broadway credits include “The Color Purple,” “Motown: The Musical,” “Violet,” and “Memphis.”

A great variety of creative energies has been employed to bring “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” to the stage.  Harrel and Tommy have assembled a team of creative talent from both Broadway and Walt Disney Imagineering to create this production. The principal designers are Robert Brill (scenery), Clint Ramos (costumes), Charles Lapointe (wigs) David Weiner (lighting), Aaron Rhyne (projections) and Broken Chord (audio).

As the audience anticipates the rise of the curtain, guests will find that the interior of the Hyperion Theater is entirely wrapped, immediately immersing the audience in the world of “Frozen.”  As part of the scenic design, large set elements will move the action in a cinematic way, allowing the production a great forward narrative energy, accompanied by state-of the-art projections that allow the actors to have a greater sense of movement and a sound design that completely envelops the audience in the story.

And of course there will be snow throughout the interior of the theater – on stage and over the audience.

And as would be expected from Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks, new technologies – especially with projections, fabrics and special effects – will delight audiences in new and unique ways.

The challenge of bringing Olaf and the Trolls to the stage has been assigned to master puppet designer Michael Curry, who co-designed with director Julie Taymor the puppets of “The Lion King” on Broadway, the magic mirror in “Snow White” at Fantasyland Theatre, and many other Disney parades, shows and projects, as well as projects for the Olympics, Cirque du Soleil and the Metropolitan Opera.

An entirely separate Broadway production of “Frozen” is currently being prepared by Disney Theatrical Productions and is slated to join Disney Theatrical’s New York productions of “Aladdin” and “The Lion King” for spring 2018 at a theater to be announced. It will have a pre-Broadway engagement starting in summer 2017 in Denver.

The campaign, developed by Publicis New York, kick-offs in conjunction with MLS’ opening day on March 6, 2016, with the launch of Villa and Donovan’s 15 second spots, which showcases each journey to prominence in the U.S. The full 30 second campaign commercial, launching in mid-March, will help highlight soccer’s rise and raise a glass to the supporters who helped lift the beautiful game.

Lloyd’s 15 second hero spot will launch in late-April in advance of this summer’s packed schedule of International and club team soccer tournaments. All commercials run through the duration of both the UCL & MLS seasons. More about each:

  • David Villa’s TV spot shows soccer isn’t just big in Europe. The filled stadiums and crowd involvement is just as big in the U.S., and marks his first time ever speaking on-camera in English (launching 3/6/16).
  • Landon Donovan’s spot provides his take on the current growth of the game in the U.S. versus what he experienced early on, and how that passion will only grow in years to come (launching 3/6/16).
  • Carli Lloyd hits the airwaves as the first female athlete to ever be a spokesperson for a beer brand. Lloyd speaks to the support she’s witnessed in just a few years to affirm that “Soccer is Here” (launching April 2016).

“It’s been a long road for fans of soccer in America, and as a supporter of the game for decades abroad, Heineken toasts to fans old and new,” said Ralph Rijks, Senior Vice President of Heineken. “As the world’s most international beer, it’s clear to see soccer’s popularity is brewing in America. We are excited to be part of that momentum and heritage, and we’ll be bringing fans closer to the game all year long.”

Through key sponsorships and activities over the years, Heineken® has become a worldwide leader in soccer, both globally and in America. With “Soccer is Here,” Heineken® is tapping into that passion to take the game to new heights.

“The U.S. has taken a liking to soccer. There are more games televised, and more people are watching. Everywhere I have travelled in the U.S., I see fans eager to get to know the game I love,” said former World Cup and UCL champion, and current NYCFC captain, David Villa. “Heineken’s support of soccer is known wherever you go around the world, and with their championing of the game in the U.S., myself and other players are excited to showcase the game we love to fans all across the country.”

“As a recent import to America myself, it’s clear that soccer has taken hold here in a huge way, more than ever before,” said Andy Bird, CCO Publicis Worldwide North America, New York. “The campaign captures the excitement and visceral nature of the match day experience, and aims to harness the swell of pride and emotion that comes with soccer. And as a fan I can’t think of a better suited match with the game in the U.S. than Heineken, as they already have a rich history with soccer around the world, and we’re proud to be part of it.”

Latin Music Star Luis Coronel, Empire Productions Win Federal Copyright Ruling

0

LOS ANGELES, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — A California federal court has issued a complete dismissal of copyright infringement and breach of contract claims filed against Luis Coronel, the 2014 Latin Billboard Music Awards New Artist of the Year, and his record company, Empire Productions Inc.

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles found no basis for any of the claims brought by former Empire music producer Manuel Ledesma and his business partner Louis Barraza. The suit cannot be refiled based on yesterday’s ruling.

Mr. Coronel and Empire CEO Arturo Corral previously worked with Mr. Ledesma and Mr. Barraza before the two producers left Empire in 2014. The following year, Mr. Coronel, Mr. Corral and Empire were sued for allegedly infringing copyrights on two songs that Mr. Ledesma composed. They were successfully represented by veteran entertainment copyright attorney Robert E. Allen of McKool Smith in Los Angeles.

The plaintiffs alleged that they were responsible for Mr. Coronel’s reputation as the “Latin Justin Bieber,” and for helping him and Empire land a contract with the larger Del Records to produce the singer’s more mainstream recordings.

In the March 2 ruling by Judge Otis D. Wright II, the court held that the case made by Mr. Ledesma and Mr. Barraza involved nothing more than “threadbare assertions” and that their copyright infringement claims were “simply stating legalese in lieu of offering supporting facts.” The final ruling dismissed all claims with prejudice, preventing the lawsuit from being filed again in any court.

“This lawsuit should never have been filed in the first place, and the court’s ruling shows that there were no facts to support any of the allegations against my clients,” says Mr. Allen, who regularly represents clients in significant copyright issues. “Luis Coronel is one of the most talented and dynamic recording artists anywhere, and the plaintiffs have no right claiming they’re the reason for his success.”

The case is Manuel Ledesma, et al. v. Arturo Corral, et al., No. 2:15-CV-04266.

With more than 175 trial lawyers across offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Marshall, New York, Silicon Valley, and Washington, D.C., McKool Smith has established a reputation as one of America’s leading trial firms. Since 2006, the firm has secured nine nine-figure jury verdicts, and ten eight-figure jury verdicts. The firm has also won more VerdictSearch and The National Law Journal “Top 100 Verdicts” over the last eight years than any other law firm in the country. Courtroom successes like these have earned McKool Smith critical acclaim and helped the firm become what The Wall Street Journal describes as “one of the biggest law firm success stories of the past decade.” McKool Smith represents clients in complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and white collar defense matters.

Labor Enforcement Task Force Cites Three Companies in San Diego County for Workplace Hazards, Labor Law Violations

0

SAN DIEGO, March 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Cal/OSHA inspectors on the Labor Enforcement Task Force (LETF) have ordered three cabinet-making companies in San Diego County to stop using unguarded saws that put employees at risk for serious injury, including amputation and lacerations. Task force inspectors with the Labor Commissioner’s Office also issued work stop orders to two of the businesses that didn’t have workers’ compensation insurance.

“Our focus is to protect workers and ensure that companies comply with labor and safety laws,” said LETF Chief Dominic Forrest. “We issue stop orders when we find hazards that require immediate action to prevent serious injury. Employers are further prohibited from continuing operations until they have workers’ compensation insurance coverage for all of their employees.”

Cal/OSHA inspectors issued the safety stop orders on the unguarded table saws to M. Stanton Company and E&A Cabinets, both of San Ysidro, and Custom Carpentry Solutions of Chula Vista on February 17 and 18. The employers must correct the hazardous conditions in order to put the machinery back into operation. The businesses may be cited for additional workplace safety violations once Cal/OSHA’s investigations are complete.

Task force inspectors with the Labor Commissioner’s Office found that all three companies were in violation of other labor laws, including the failure to provide itemized wage statements and licensing violations.  The labor law penalties levied total $21,392 for E&A Cabinets, $31,928 for Custom Carpentry Solutions and $105,000 for M. Stanton Company.  E&A Cabinets and Custom Carpentry Solutions were ordered to stop all work until they secure workers’ compensation insurance.

The task force is a coalition of California State and local enforcement agencies formed in 2012 to combat the underground economy. LETF teams conduct monthly inspections targeting employers in high-risk industries, and operate under the direction of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). LETF member partners include DIR divisions Cal/OSHA and the Labor Commissioner’s Office, officially known as the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, the Contractors State License Board, the Employment Development Department, the California Department of Insurance, the Bureau of Automotive Repair, Alcoholic Beverage Control and the Board of Equalization.

LETF is committed to outreach and education and has produced information for workers and employers to ensure they know their rights and responsibilities.

Leads on underground employers and reports of labor law violations can be submitted online through LETF’s Online Referral Form, by emailing the information to [email protected], or by calling LETF toll-free at 1-855-297-5322.

Superbugs threaten hospital patients

0

ATLANTA, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — America is doing a better job of preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), but more work is needed – especially in fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest Vital Signs report urges healthcare workers to use a combination of infection control recommendations to better protect patients from these infections.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20151112/286865LOGO

“New data show that far too many patients are getting infected with dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria in healthcare settings,” said CDC Director Tom Frieden, M.D., M.P.H. “Doctors and healthcare facilities have the power to protect patients – no one should get sick while trying to get well.”

Many of the most urgent and serious antibiotic-resistant bacteria threaten patients while they are being treated in healthcare facilities for other conditions, and may lead to sepsis or death. In acute care hospitals, 1 in 7 catheter- and surgery-related HAIs can be caused by any of the six antibiotic-resistant bacteria listed below. That number increases to 1 in 4 infections in long-term acute care hospitals, which treat patients who are generally very sick and stay, on average, more than 25 days.

The six antibiotic-resistant threats examined are:

  • Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)
  • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
  • ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae (extended-spectrum β-lactamases)
  • Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE)
  • Multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter

U.S. hospitals doing better at preventing most HAIs

The national data in this Vital Signs report, along with data from CDC’s latest annual progress report on HAI prevention, show that acute care hospitals have achieved:

  • A 50 percent decrease in central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) between 2008 and 2014.
    • 1 in 6 remaining CLABSIs are caused by urgent or serious antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  • A 17 percent decrease in surgical site infections (SSIs) between 2008 and 2014 related to 10 procedures tracked in previous HAI progress reports.
    • 1 in 7 remaining SSIs are caused by urgent or serious antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  • No change in the overall catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) between 2009 and 2014. During this time, however, there was progress in non-ICU settings, progress in all settings between 2013 and 2014, and most notably, even more progress in all settings towards the end of 2014.
    • 1 in 10 CAUTIs are caused by urgent or serious antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The Vital Signs report also examines the role of Clostridium difficile (C. difficile), the most common type of bacteria responsible for infections in hospitals. C. difficile caused almost half a million infections in the United States in 2011 alone. CDC’s annual progress report shows that progress has been made in decreasing hospital-onset C. difficile infections by 8 percent between 2011 and 2014.

Along with the updated annual progress report, CDC released the Antibiotic Resistance Patient Safety Atlas, a new web app with interactive data on HAIs caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria. The tool provides national, regional, and state map views of superbug/drug combinations showing percent resistance over time. The Atlas uses data reported to CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network from 2011 to 2014 from more than 4,000 healthcare facilities.

CDC message to healthcare providers

CDC is calling on doctors, nurses, health care facility administrators, and state and local health departments to continue to do their part to prevent HAIs. The report recommends doctors and nurses combine three critical efforts to accomplish this:

  • Prevent the spread of bacteria between patients;
  • Prevent infections related to surgery and/or placement of a catheter; and
  • Improve antibiotic use through stewardship.

“For clinicians, prevention means isolating patients when necessary,” said Clifford McDonald, M.D., Associate Director for Science at CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion. “It also means being aware of antibiotic resistance patterns in your facilities, following recommendations for preventing infections that can occur after surgery or from central lines and catheters placed in the body, and prescribing antibiotics correctly.”

CDC efforts, in addition to efforts by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and state mandates for public reporting of HAIs, have all contributed to national progress in improving transparency, accountability, and quality related to patient safety.

“The good news is that we are preventing healthcare acquired infections, which has saved thousands of lives,” said Patrick Conway, M.D., M.Sc., Deputy Administrator and Chief Medical Officer at Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. “The challenge ahead is how we help to prevent antibiotic resistance as well as infections. We are using incentives, changes in care delivery, and transparency to improve safety and quality for patients.”

Congress has recognized the urgent need to combat antibiotic resistance. In fiscal year 2016, Congress appropriated $160 million in new funding for CDC to implement its activities listed in the National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-resistant Bacteria. With this funding, CDC will fight the spread of antibiotic resistance by:

  • accelerating outbreak detection and prevention in every state;
  • enhancing tracking of resistance mechanisms and resistant infections;
  • supporting innovative research to address current gaps in knowledge; and
  • improving antibiotic use.

As part of the ongoing effort to improve patient safety, CDC and other federal partners will participate in National Patient Safety Awareness Week 2016, March 13 through March 19.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

CDC works 24/7 protecting America’s health, safety and security. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are curable or preventable, chronic or acute, stem from human error or deliberate attack, CDC is committed to respond to America’s most pressing health challenges.

Preventive health care can help Americans stay healthier throughout their lives. Those enrolled in health insurance coverage can use the “Roadmap to Better Care and a Healthier You” (English and Spanish) to learn about their benefits, including how to connect to primary care and the preventive services that are right for them, so that they can live a long and healthy life.

FPL delivers best-ever service reliability in 2015, reducing outages to lowest rate on record

JUNO BEACH, Florida, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) today announced that its ongoing efforts to improve service reliability continued to pay dividends for its customers in 2015, based on performance data filed with the Florida Public Service Commission.

“We’re building a stronger and smarter electric grid to provide our customers with reliable service year-round, all the while keeping our typical residential bills the lowest in Florida and 30 percent below the national average,” said Eric Silagy, president and CEO of FPL. “Our continued investments in strengthening the electric grid and utilizing advanced smart grid technology help us deliver electricity our customers can count on in good weather and bad. This has been very evident during our most recent spell of severe El Niño-related weather, including tornadic activity, which for the past several weeks has been impacting our service territory.”

Since 2006, FPL has invested more than $2 billion to strengthen its electric system, including hardening nearly 550 main power lines serving critical community facilities, such as police and fire stations, hospitals and 911 centers. By year-end 2016, the company expects to have strengthened every main power line serving critical community facilities in the 35 counties it serves.

Incorporating lessons learned from severe flooding in the Northeast following 2012’s Superstorm Sandy, the company has addressed the potential threat of water intrusion by adding flood monitoring systems in 223 coastal substations in Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier and Lee counties. FPL also has installed monitors in several electrical vaults in flood-prone areas of downtown Miami.

In January 2016, U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz toured FPL facilities in South Florida, including a flood mitigation system at a substation, as well as its advanced system control center, which is one of the most modern in the world.

During the visit, Secretary Moniz commended FPL for its efforts to make its infrastructure stronger, smarter and more storm-resilient.

“FPL is really on the cutting edge of addressing a grid for the 21st century, particularly in the area of resilience,” Moniz told reporters during his FPL visit. “It’s really what we need.”

Strengthened power lines help make the grid more storm-resilient and speed restoration efforts following a storm. FPL’s investments to strengthen its overhead power lines also have resulted in enhanced daily reliability, with hardened lines performing approximately 40 percent better than lines that have not been hardened.

In addition to the continued strengthening of its electric system, FPL’s deployment of smart grid technology helps keep the lights on for customers year-round. FPL has installed more than 4.8 million smart meters on homes and businesses, and more than 36,000 advanced smart grid devices on its poles and wires. This technology enables FPL to continually monitor and assess the health of its system, predict, and in some cases prevent outages for customers, and restore power faster when outages occur.

“We have worked hard to improve service for our customers and we’re seeing results – improving reliability by approximately 25 percent over the past five years,” said Silagy. “We’ve also achieved significant reductions in flickers – those brief power interruptions that can be a source of frustration for customers. We know that reliability is extremely important to our customers and our state’s economy, and we’re committed to continue improving the service we provide.”

FPL was named the winner of the 2015 ReliabilityOne™ National Reliability Excellence Award by PA Consulting Group, a global management consulting firm that analyzes electric utility performance across the United States, recognizing the most reliable utilities in the nation.

Florida Power & Light Company

Florida Power & Light Company is the third-largest electric utility in the United States, serving more than 4.8 million customer accounts or more than 10 million people across nearly half of the state of Florida. FPL’s typical 1,000-kWh residential customer bill is approximately 30 percent lower than the latest national average and, in 2015, was the lowest in Florida among reporting utilities for the sixth year in a row. FPL’s service reliability is better than 99.98 percent, and its highly fuel-efficient power plant fleet is one of the cleanest among all utilities nationwide. The company was recognized in 2015 as one of the most trusted U.S. electric utilities by Market Strategies International. A leading Florida employer with approximately 8,800 employees, FPL is a subsidiary of Juno Beach, Fla.-based NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NEE), a clean energy company widely recognized for its efforts in sustainability, ethics and diversity, and has been ranked No. 1 in the electric and gas utilities industry in Fortune’s 2016 list of “World’s Most Admired Companies.” NextEra Energy is also the parent company of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, which, together with its affiliated entities, is the world’s largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and sun.
