WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Broadband OTT television service YipTV, which gives subscribers 19 live TV channels to watch free, today announced it has added former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya’s RingTV to its steadily growing channel lineup and that it will offer subscribers two exciting live-action fight cards this weekend via RingTV.

The RingTV shows, both originated by De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and “broadband- cast” by YipTV, feature promising young boxers who are expected to contend for championships in the future.

The live boxing cards include:

  • Four four-round “LA Fight Club” bouts on Friday from the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, which begin at 8 p.m. EDT / 5 p.m. PDT.
  • Six bouts on Saturday from StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., which begin at 5:30 p.m. EDT / 2:30 p.m. PDT

De La Hoya, nicknamed “The Golden Boy,” compiled a stellar amateur boxing record of 234 wins and only six losses — including winning a gold medal in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games — before battling to a remarkable 10 professional boxing world titles in six different weight classes. During his pro boxing career, De La Hoya defeated 17 world champions. Today he remains hugely popular with boxing fans after his retirement from the ring.

In 2002, De La Hoya became the first Hispanic to form a national boxing promotional company when he founded Golden Boy Promotions in Los Angeles; the company is now one of professional boxing’s most active and respected promoters.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have Oscar De La Hoya’s RingTV join our YipTV channel lineup,” said CEO Michael Tribolet. “With the same class and winner-take-all determination he exhibited as a fighter, Oscar demonstrates a drive to succeed with all he does as a boxing promoter in his native Los Angeles – from nurturing young boxers to giving them opportunities via LA Fight Club to giving them exposure and promoting their careers through Ring Magazine and RingTV.”

“We want to give fans all over the country the opportunity to see the next great superstar from Golden Boy Promotions, and this partnership with YipTV will help realize that vision,” said Oscar De La Hoya, CEO and Chairman of Golden Boy Promotions. “We look forward to continuing to build boxing’s next great generation of fighters and showcasing them on YipTV.”

The LA Fight Club bouts on Friday night – all four rounds each — will feature lightweights Francisco Ochoa (2-0, 1KO) vs. Edgar Galvez (0-1); super bantamweights Pablo Rubio Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs) vs. Adrian Rodriguez; super flyweights Joshua Franco (1-0) vs. Saul Hernandez (5-7-1, 3 KOs), and super lightweights Abraham Lopez (1-1) vs. Andrew Gomez (0-2).

On Saturday, the StubHub Center bouts will feature a 10-round featherweight battle between Julian Ramirez (14-0, 8 KOs) and Hugo Partida (20-5-2, 15 KOs); Nick Arce (4-0) vs. Juan Hernandez (3-0) in a super featherweight six-rounder; Mercito Gesta (28-1-2, 16 KOs) vs. Martin Honorio (32-9-1, 16 KOs) in a lightweight 10-rounder; super lightweights Marcelino Lopez (31-1-1, 16 KOs) vs. David Rodela (17-11-4, 7 KOs) going eight rounds; light heavyweights D’mitrius Ballard (9-0, 7 KOs) vs. Eddie Hunter (10-13-2, 2 KOs) scheduled for eight rounds, and super featherweights Kevin Rivers (12-0, 9 KOs) vs. Alejandro Ochoa (6-10-2, 1 KO) in a six rounder.

Elements of Success National Survey Sheds Light on Hispanic Attitudes toward Work and Money

0

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Northwestern Mutual, a recognized leader in helping individuals and families achieve financial security, today announced the results of its Elements of Success Survey (EOSS). The EOSS is a research study of consumers with diverse backgrounds to better understand how Americans define happiness, success and financial accomplishment in their lives. The first phase of results reveal important findings on Hispanic attitudes.

Experience the interactive Multimedia News Release here: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7422157-northwestern-mutual-hispanic-success/

Four in ten Hispanics describe themselves as extremely, very successful or successful in their lives right now compared to half of the general population. With most expressing a strong belief in the benefits of hard work, Hispanics also believe that they will determine their own financial success and that success must be earned. Coupled with hard work, the majority of Hispanics feel there is equal opportunity for everyone to achieve their dream of financial success, compared to less than half of the general population.

According to Christopher Meece, Director of Multicultural Market Strategy and lead for the company’s efforts in the Hispanic market, “With our Elements of Success Survey, Northwestern Mutual is learning not just about the incredibly strong sense of values within the community Hispanics have, but also how optimistic they are about achieving financial success. Hispanics are seeking financial education and information to enable their financial achievements, like saving for education or owning a home. Backed by a goal-based planning approach, our Northwestern Mutual financial representatives are well-positioned to help the community achieve their financial goals – whatever they may be.”

Living debt-free and reaching savings and investment goals also describe financial success for Hispanics. The leading drivers to achieving financial success are seen as being well-rounded, having a strong personal network and completing an undergraduate degree.

  • By their own admission, Hispanics struggle with managing their money and lack self-confidence when doing so.
  • A majority of Hispanics give themselves a grade of C or lower when evaluating how well they manage their money.
  • Seventy percent of Hispanics have not created a long-term financial plan.
  • One in five Hispanics feel they are at the starting line in their race to financial success — higher than the general population.
  • Younger, largely Millennial Hispanics (age 18-39) are more likely to see an undergraduate degree as one of the top 3 outside influences for financial success, while those over 40 are more likely to say it is the advice of elders.

Methodology
Harris Poll conducted over 4,300 interviews in June 2015. The interviews were completed among U.S. adults age 18+ and included members of the general population.

Texas A&M launches ‘Healthy South Texas,’ empowers Texans to live healthier lives

0

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — John Sharp, chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, along with Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, today announced the launch of “Healthy South Texas,” a novel effort to reduce preventable diseases and their consequences throughout the region. The pilot program of the Healthy Texas Initiative, “Healthy South Texas” will combine the expertise of the Texas A&M Health Science Center with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s one-of-a-kind, statewide reach to promote preventative health at the most local level of the community, improving the well-being of South Texans for generations to come.

Photo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20150929/271932

“While the tools and techniques to improve the health of Texans have been, for the most part, available, what was missing was the comprehensive, multi-disciplinary team – with unparalleled statewide capabilities and assets – to transform the impossible into the inevitable,” Sharp said. “We are doing for health what extension agents have done for agriculture for more than a century; essentially creating a new ‘crop’ of extension agents, poised to empower Texans to take control of their own health and wellness.”

“Just last year, representatives from Texas A&M University announced our Healthy Texas Initiative, the first genuine ‘land grant’ solution to one of society’s greatest challenges,” said Michael K. Young, president of Texas A&M University. “Today, thanks to the generous support of the Texas Legislature, the Healthy Texas pilot program will officially launch throughout South Texas, ensuring that future generations of Texans have the tools and information they need to lead healthier lives and make informed decisions based on research conducted through Texas A&M and the A&M System.”

Focusing on the highest impact diseases in the region, including diabetes, asthma and infectious disease, the initiative brings together experts from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical science, public health, architecture and extension to engage families, enhance education, promote behavior change, and improve quality of medical care and disease outcomes. The result of a $10 million investment from the 84th Texas Legislature, the program will initially be implemented in a 27-county region spanning South Texas.

“The key to a strong and successful future for Texas is only possible if we ensure that the next generation of Texans is healthy and well-educated,” said Senator Hinojosa, a McAllen native who represents District 20. “Through Texas A&M’s combined health science capabilities and statewide agricultural extension outreach, Healthy South Texas will enable our region to meet its full potential as the most vibrant and productive part of Texas, and will serve as a model for improved health across the entire state.”

Utilizing a unique ‘prevention is the solution’ approach, the initiative will teach South Texans to take personal responsibility over their own health to reduce the burden of costly, preventable diseases.

“Already present in 250 counties throughout the state, extension agents are expert at bringing agricultural research and information to the community – and disseminating it in a way that sticks for generations,” said Susan Ballabina, Ph.D., associate director of program development at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. “Now, working in-tandem with the health science center, we want to add healthier living to that mission. I’m excited to encourage agents to engage families through effective nutrition, health and wellness programming throughout the region.”

Leveraging existing regional assets, the initiative merges expertise from across Texas A&M Health Science Center campuses in Corpus Christi with the Texas A&M Coastal Bend Health Education Center and Texas A&M College of Medicine; Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy in Kingsville; Texas A&M School of Public Health and Texas A&M College of Nursing in McAllen; Texas A&M Institute of Biosciences and Technology in Houston; along with the Texas A&M College of Architecture’s Colonias Program; Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi; Texas A&M International University-Laredo and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, currently present in every county. Additionally, through partnerships with hospitals and clinics throughout the region, “Healthy South Texas” will reduce the overall health care costs associated with preventable diseases.

“Through our integrated efforts, we will expand and maintain prevention services at the most local level of the community, at a time when health outcomes can be improved at a fraction of the cost when compared to expensive ‘late stage’ medical treatments in hospital settings,” said Scott Lillibridge, M.D., director of health initiatives at The Texas A&M University System and professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health. “This innovative program will serve the region as a whole, while developing tools, technologies and strategies that can be applied to public health challenges around the state. In doing so, we will improve the health of Texans for years to come.”

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Leveraging its long-standing relationship with Hyundai Motor America, ARK Performance has released details on its race-inspired Solus Genesis Coupe, blending performance and luxury to take on vehicles like the BMW M4 and Lexus RC F. The vehicle will be revealed at Hyundai’s SEMA press conference on November 3 at 11:30 a.m. PT.

For the tuner’s seventh consecutive vehicle built for SEMA, ARK added performance and luxury in tandem, creating a premium coupe that can go toe-to-toe with top rivals from around the world. Building on the success of last year’s AR550 Genesis Sedan, the vehicle’s design focuses on creating a wider visual look to give a more powerful stance using ARK’s own “Solus” wide body kit. The interior also has been given a complete makeover with a redesigned dashboard, race-bred steering wheel and gauges, with ample carbon fiber.

The Solus Genesis Coupe is sponsored by Quaker State and Hyundai Assurance Car Care Express, with more than 300 service centers nationally. Car Care Express provides customers with quick oil changes, tire rotation and other basic services in less than an hour. Hyundai also recommends Quaker State for its dealer network and, it is the factory fill motor oil for Hyundai vehicles as they roll off the assembly line.

“The Genesis Coupe is the perfect platform for developing our performance product lineup,” said Kevin Bentley, Marketing and Sales Manager, ARK Performance, Inc. “Hyundai’s 3.8-liter engine is strong enough to handle all the extra power we’re now developing, and the chassis is well balanced and easy to modify, allowing us to create this lowered, aggressive stance while maintaining that clean look we’re going for.”

Hyundai’s 3.8-liter “Lambda” V6 engine is stroked to 4.0 liters for a powerful start to the build. With the addition of a Rotrex supercharger and strengthened engine internals, the vehicle now develops more than 500 horsepower, sending that power to the rear wheels – now sporting sticky, Nitto rubber – through a 6-speed manual transmission. The addition of an ARK Legato trunk spoiler and APR Performance carbon fiber front splitter round out the vehicle’s aggressive, race-bred appearance.

120 Days to Say Goodbye: Immigration Gets Personal

0

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Gravitas Ventures has picked up worldwide VOD & broadcast rights to Ted Roach’s 120 Days: Undocumented in America, the award-winning documentary that chronicles one immigrant’s struggle to keep his family together after an immigration judge orders him to leave the U.S. “voluntarily” within 120 days to avoid an official deportation.

The politically-timely documentary is slated for a VOD release on October 2nd on many platforms, including iTunes (available for pre-orders now), AT&T, Amazon, Cablevision, Comcast, Google Play, In-Demand, DirecTV, DISH Network, PlayStation®, Rogers (Canada), TWC, VUDU, U-verse, and Xbox.

The Immigration debate gets personal in this documentary from filmmaker, Ted Roach. Family man Miguel Cortes was detected as an undocumented immigrant at a traffic stop after living in the U.S. under the radar for over a decade. After receiving the judge’s “voluntary departure” order, Miguel, his wife and two daughters have four months to decide if they will send Miguel back alone, or change their names and disappear back into another American city to keep their family together. The film crew joined the Cortes family from the first day in court through Miguel’s last official day in the United States, revealing a hidden side of an undocumented society that few Americans ever get to see.

The documentary had its North American premiere at the Austin Film Festival and was selected for over 20 other festivals, winning 10 awards and four nominations along the way. The upcoming D.C. premiere will take place the weekend of October 22-25, with featured screenings in the Greater Washington Immigration Film Festival and American University’s Human Rights Film Series. The film will also screen at the 2015 Napa Valley Film Festival.
