Anne Geddes Unveils New Image Of A Baby Born Too Soon

Acclaimed Photographer Supports World Prematurity Day

CHANDLER, Ariz., Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Internationally-acclaimed baby photographer Anne Geddes today unveiled an image of a baby born too soon that will be shared worldwide to raise awareness of the global problem of preterm birth.

Mrs. Geddes donated the image of Alfred, who was born 8 weeks too soon, weighing just two pounds, six ounces, to the March of Dimes, which made the photo the center of its 2014 World Prematurity Day campaign.

“I’m proud to be working with March of Dimes, because all babies deserve a chance at a healthy start in life,” said Mrs. Geddes, who unveiled the image during a March of Dimes conference. “Tiny baby Alfred sends a fragile and yet powerful message. The initial heart-wrenching sight of such a tiny human being, quickly gives way to admiration for their sense of strength and their will to survive against all odds.”

Worldwide, more than 15 million babies are born too soon and more than one million babies die before their first birthday. Preterm birth, (before 37 weeks of pregnancy), is the leading cause of newborn death, and babies who survive an early birth often face the risk of serious and sometimes lifelong health problems, such as breathing problems, jaundice, developmental delays, vision loss and cerebral palsy.

The image of Alfred, cradled in the hand of a Leonardo DaVinci-inspired sculpture, is being used to draw worldwide attention to the need to prevent preterm birth.

Mrs. Geddes also taped a TV spot that will air on CNN in more than 200 countries. It can be viewed at: http://youtu.be/FX6GTlAt1AE

“We are grateful to Anne Geddes, one of the world’s most widely respected photographers, for her tireless efforts on behalf of babies worldwide,” says March of Dimes President Dr. Jennifer Howse. “Her work will help focus attention on the critical work needed to give all babies a healthy start in life.”

World Prematurity Day takes place each year on November 17. The March of Dimes and its global partners mark the day with activities to focus attention on preterm birth. The March of Dimes works with the World Prematurity Network, (WPN), a global coalition of consumer and parent groups working together to raise awareness and prevent premature birth in their countries. Through World Prematurity Day and other joint efforts, members call for action to prevent preterm birth and improve care for babies born too soon. Shepherd Smith Edwards & Kantas LLP Still Investigating Claims Involving Puerto Rico Bonds, It’s Not Too Late

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Lawyers with the Securities Law Firm of Shepherd Smith Edwards & Kantas LLP, www.sseklaw.com, are still investigating claims involving Puerto Rico bonds.  A number of brokerage firms in Puerto Rico, including UBS, Banco Popular, and others, sold massive amounts of Puerto Rico bonds.  UBS also sold proprietary investment funds which held Puerto Rico bonds, in whole or in part.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20131011/DA96469LOGO

Many clients purchased Puerto Rico bonds or shares of these proprietary UBS funds at the recommendation of their broker.  Often, these investments were sold as low risk, fixed income options for Puerto Rican investors.  Many clients did not understand that Puerto Rico bonds, particularly in large amounts, carried substantial amounts of risk.  Those clients who purchased UBS proprietary funds were taking even larger risks, as those funds were often highly leveraged and carried significantly higher risks than what their continental United States counterparts did.

Some clients were even recommended to borrow money, either from their brokerage firm or a bank, in order to purchase even larger amounts of these Puerto Rico investments.  This strategy greatly increased the risks the investors faced, quite the contrary to the “win-win” recommendation the clients believed they were following.

If you are or were a customer of UBS Puerto Rico, Banco Popular, or another Puerto Rico brokerage firm who invested in Puerto Rico bonds, UBS Puerto Rico bond funds or similar securities, it is not too late to contact the law firm of Shepherd Smith Edwards & Kantas LLP for an evaluation of your account to determine if you might have a claim to attempt to recover some or all of your losses.  All communications will be kept strictly confidential, and you will not be billed in any way for a consultation.

Shepherd Smith Edwards & Kantas LLP has a team of attorneys, consultants and staff with more than 100 years of combined experience in the securities industry and in securities law. For more than two decades, our firm has represented thousands of investors throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and internationally to recover losses suffered through brokerage firms and banks. We have represented clients in Federal and state courts and in arbitration through the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the New York Stock Exchange Inc. New Poll of GRE Test Takers Headed to Graduate and Business School Reveals Study Habits

PRINCETON, N.J., Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In a recent survey of GRE ® test takers, individuals from around the world shared their personal study habits and preferences about their test preparation. Their answers provide insight to the hundreds of thousands of individuals currently readying themselves to take the GRE ® revised General Test during the peak testing season, in pursuit of master’s, MBA, specialized master’s in business and doctoral programs.

The survey revealed that the most common length of time students around the world spend preparing for the test is about one month to less than three months. In addition, slightly more than half of respondents said they used the free POWERPREP® II Software, which includes two simulated tests, to get ready. In the United States, about one-third of respondents said they spent less than one month preparing and approximately six percent said that they spent six months or longer preparing for the test.

“Some test takers will feel ready fairly quickly and want to test right away to meet admissions deadlines,” says Dawn Piacentino, director of communication and services for the GRE Program at ETS. “Most test takers will take the test once, but if an individual wants to try to do better, there is a backup plan to help them show their best. The ScoreSelect® option, available only with GRE tests, lets test takers decide — on test day or anytime up to five years — which of their scores to send to schools. This option gives test takers a lot of confidence from the start.”

Survey respondents cited using flash cards and reading books as some of the most popular preparation tools, with nearly 40 percent globally reporting flash cards were part of their study protocol. “Even with the array of prep options, it’s interesting to see that students like tried-and-true flash cards for randomly quizzing themselves on how to best answer different types of questions,” said Piacentino. Home outranked all other locations as the favorite place to study everywhere around the world, but differences emerged around favorite time of day to prepare. Chinese students led the group with the most “early risers,” while approximately 29 percent of test takers in India preferred late-night studying. Slightly more than 60 percent of respondents said they were more motivated to study if friends were also taking the test. Furthermore, friends ranked highest as favorite study-buddy choice, although close to 10 percent of U.S. respondents reported that their favorite study buddy was their dog or cat.

Fruit edged out all other options as the favorite GRE study snack. The top five GRE study snack list is:

  1. Fruit
  2. Nuts, seeds or corn nuts
  3. Chocolate
  4. Potato chips
  5. Cookies

“We conducted this survey so that GRE test takers could tell us more about how they like to prepare for the GRE revised General Test,” said Piacentino. “More than 18,000 individuals from over 150 countries responded and shared not only their study habits but how they celebrated after taking the test. We plan to post more insights from this survey on the official GRE revised General Test page on Facebook®. After all, it is a popular time for students everywhere to be taking the GRE revised General Test to apply to graduate or business school.”
