WORCESTER, Massachusetts, July 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — MindSciences has released a Spanish version of Eat Right Now, its award-winning app clinically proven to decrease food cravings by 40%.  According to Mark Mitchnick, MD, CEO of MindSciences, “Our apps for behavior change address today’s most pressing health issues: obesity, smoking and anxiety.  With Spanish being one of the most spoken languages worldwide and the second most common in the US, it only makes sense that we offer our apps in Spanish.  Eat Right Now is the first to be translated and our other apps will follow soon.  Eat Right Now has been shown in clinical studies to drastically change people’s relationship with food resulting in a healthier attitude that naturally leads to better habits and weight loss.”

Eat Right Now is one of 3 apps currently offered under the DrJud brand.  They are based on the work of Dr. Jud Brewer, a leading addiction psychiatrist and neuroscientist.  Dr. Mitchnick added that “Because Eat Right Now leaves the user with the new skillset of mindfulness, we believe the change is sustainable, differentiating our approach from a forced regimen of calorie counting or specific food types that often results in only temporary success.  The app is specifically designed to work as a standalone therapeutic, but can also be used in conjunction with any structured diet program should the user desire.  In fact, a recent survey of our current users shows that 39% are also participating in a structured eating program and 45% have active gym memberships.  The opportunity to combine our evidenced based mindfulness apps with other interventions is both powerful and vast and we will be working towards this in the near future.”

About MindSciences:

MindSciences helps individuals lead healthier and happier lives through behavior change via evidence-based digital therapeutics for overeating, anxiety and smoking cessation. PLANO, Texas, July 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In recognition of the sacrifice made by military service members and their families, Toyota Financial Services has introduced a new program that waives the remaining lease payments for military customers who die or are catastrophically injured in the line of duty.

Gold Star families are the relatives of U.S. military members who have died while serving their country. Toyota’s program extends to the Gold Star families and goes a step further to include service members who have been catastrophically injured.

“We value our customers and recognize the sacrifices these heroes have made to defend our freedoms,” said Anna Sampang, Toyota Financial Services vice president of service operations. “We’re hopeful this new program will help their families as they navigate a difficult time.”

The company invites eligible Toyota and Lexus lease customers or their family members to contact Toyota Financial Services or Lexus Financial Services to be assisted. Toyota Financial Services will allow the customer’s estate or family to return the vehicle and will forgive the remaining lease payments and any end of lease fees from their existing lease contract.

“Toyota is grateful to the service members who have given so much to protect our country,” said Mark Templin, president and CEO of Toyota Financial Services. “We humbly thank the families of those who have sacrificed their lives or suffered catastrophic injuries to keep the United States safe, and we are honored to do our part to recognize their service.”

This program is the latest endeavor in Toyota’s extensive recognition of the men and women who serve in our nation’s armed forces. Since 2012, the company has supported Hiring Our Heroes, a program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation that connects veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses with career opportunities. Toyota also offers military rebates to U.S. military personnel, household members of eligible U.S. military personnel (including Gold Star families), U.S. military retirees, and U.S. military veterans within two years of discharge.

California Cling Peach Growers: Economic Factors are Driving Choice out of the Grocery Aisle

California Cling Peach Growers: Economic Factors are Driving Choice out of the Grocery Aisle

SACRAMENTO, California, July 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In today’s fresh produce marketplace, California continues to set the standard for quality, safety, fairness and value, even in the midst of fierce worldwide competition. The Growers of California Cling Peaches are encouraging consumers to read labels to ensure their produce is from California or the USA, as many retailers – particularly in the canned peaches category – import low-cost products from foreign countries despite promoting “locally grown and sourced.”

California Cling Peach Growers: Economic Factors are Driving Choice out of the Grocery Aisle

Consider these five facts:

1.  California growers produce the safest and highest quality fruits and vegetables under the world’s most stringent laws and regulations. For example, California peach growers must comply with over 70 different regulations in order to apply pesticides – regulations that do not exist in many of the foreign countries that export low-cost peaches to the US. As a result, the top export country has found that approximately one-fifth of its farmland is toxic, with unsafe levels of heavy metals including cadmium, nickel and arsenic.

2.  California farmers pay their farmworkers some of the highest wages in the world, along with ensuring their training and safety are up to world class standards.

3.  To reduce the impacts of climate change, California farmers have complied with regulatory directives like purchasing reduced-emission tractors and hauling fruit with reduced-emission trucks. But these efforts are negated when stores and restaurants purchase foreign-sourced peaches from thousands of miles away, where such regulatory directives do not exist.

4.  California peach processors use cleaner-burning forklifts and more efficient boilers at their plants and ship products to customers using more fuel-efficient trucking fleets. Still, in 2018 a Central California peach processing plant employing 265 workers ceased operation due to increased foreign imports by retailers and restaurants.

5.  California peach growers are working to find new ways to adapt to environmental and labor cost pressures in order to continue providing the safest, highest quality fruit. At the same time, growers are being encouraged to pull out more of their orchards due to the continuing rise in foreign imports. As a result, acreage of California Cling peaches is rapidly decreasing.

As a second-generation cling peach grower himself, Sarb Johl, Chairman of the California Cling Peach Board, knows first-hand the frustration his colleagues are feeling.

“We have a great story to tell here in California: a world class product, a committed workforce and cutting-edge innovation to bring it to market. We know consumers prefer California Clings, hands-down – when they can find them. We’re just asking retailers to make that easier and asking shoppers to be diligent in reading labels.”

Johl believes consumers would purchase California Cling peaches over foreign canned peaches if the two were similarly priced. “There’s no question when it comes to quality, taste and safety: California wins,” he said.

Shoppers have the added benefit of enjoying excellent nutrition year-round, since California Cling peaches in cans, jars and cups have the same or better nutrition than fresh. Canned and packaged California Clings contain less sugar per serving of fruit than other choices, and also deliver more nutrients for less money than fresh and frozen peaches. Details on the university studies can be accessed here: https://californiaclingpeaches.com/nutrition.

About the California Cling Peach Board

Founded in 1996, the California Cling Peach Board is a California State Marketing Order, issued in furtherance of the desire of California’s Cling peach growers to create an environment that enhances the use of cling peaches through promotion, advertising, consumer education, production and marketing research, establishment of grades and standards, and compilation of industry statistics. California Cling Peaches are picked, packed and shipped at their peak of ripeness and available from your grocer year-round in cans, single-serve cups, and jars.

Northwestern Medicine Launches Hispanic Brain and Spine Tumor Program

0

CHICAGO, July 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Northwestern Memorial Hospital recently launched the Northwestern Medicine Hispanic Brain and Spine Tumor Program in Chicago to make life-saving neurological care more accessible for the Hispanic and Latino population by removing cultural, linguistic barriers to patients who speak Spanish. Led by neurosurgeon and Mexico City native Dr. Adam Sonabend, the program aims to provide patients with brain and spinal tumors and their family members personalized care in Spanish from diagnosis to treatment.

“As a diverse city with two dominant air transportation hubs in Chicago, I was compelled to start a program that accommodates the Hispanic community and provides world-class care for patients with brain and spinal tumors from all over the world,” said Adam Sonabend, MD, neurosurgeon and director of the Hispanic Brain and Spine Tumor Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. “With this program, patients will be able to pick up the phone to schedule an appointment in Spanish, understand their diagnosis and treatment options, and undergo treatment and surgery including brain mapping for language in the operating room in Spanish. They also receive care by a clinician in Spanish at all follow-up appointments and while recovering at the hospital.”

Along with Dr. Sonabend, the multidisciplinary team includes Jean-Paul Wolinsky, MD, a neurosurgical expert in spine tumors, Roger Stupp, MD, a world-renowned neuro-oncologist who treats patients with brain and spine tumors, and an expert neuro-oncologist Priya Kumthekar MD. The program also includes Spanish speaking nurses, medical assistants and phone operators.

Guillermo Muñoz understands first-hand the significance the Hispanic Brain and Spine Tumor Program has had on his life. Born in Santiago, Chile and now living in Chicago, Muñoz was getting ready to conduct the Christmas Eve church service in Chicago when he started experiencing an unsurmountable headache that wouldn’t go away causing him to become nauseous. Concerned with the headache, Muñoz decided to call Northwestern Memorial. An avid marathon runner who follows a vegan diet, Muñoz wasn’t sure why he was feeling sick especially since he hadn’t experienced a headache of this magnitude before.

Muñoz called Northwestern Memorial where he was advised to get MRI scans which showed a plum sized tumor in the back of his brain which was compressed on his brainstem and needed to be removed. These images alerted doctors to send Muñoz to the emergency room right away for more testing.

Less than 24 hours later, on Christmas Day, Muñoz had to cancel his plans to fly to Chile to visit his family for the holidays and instead was wheeled into the operating room where Dr. Sonabend spent hours removing the tumor from Muñoz’s brain.

After surgery, Muñoz spent the next two weeks in the hospital recovering and then was transferred to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, a few blocks from Northwestern Memorial, where he began the process of recovering.

“I count my lucky stars that I was under the care of Dr. Sonabend and I was able to communicate to him in Spanish,” said Muñoz. “This allowed me to be able to connect with him under his care and I was able to learn the proper medical terminology for my condition so that I could accurately share the information with my family in the U.S. and Chile.”

The program also provides one-on-one support with a care team member who will help assist in travel plans, airfare, hotel accommodations, banking services and connecting the patient and family with places of worship, if desired.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, fill out the form here and a member of our staff will contact you directly. For immediate assistance, please call 312.926.3576.

AUSTIN, Texas, July 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Texas small land sales volume and median price experienced strong gains in 2018, while total dollar volume topped $1 billion for the second year in a row, according to the 2019 edition of the Texas Small Land Sales Report released today by Texas Realtors.

“The demand for Texas land continues to increase due to strong population and economic growth,” said Tray Bates, chairman of Texas Realtors. “Development and prime land investment opportunities remained a steady force, increasing the price per acre and impacting the quality of land available. Overall small land sales in 2018 experienced strong growth, particularly in West Texas due to a surge in oil and gas production and in the Gulf Coast area due to recovery activity from Hurricane Harvey.”

The report found that the number of small land sales grew in many regions. Small land sales in West Texas, Gulf Coast-Brazos Bottom and Austin/Waco/Hill Country all experienced double-digit percentage gains in 2018. Conversely, small land sales volume in the Panhandle and South Plains, Northeast Texas and South Texas regions all experienced declines.

The definition of a “small” land sale varies by region but is generally a land sale of 200 acres or less. The exception is Far West Texas, where 500 to 8,000 acres qualifies as a small land sale.

For the sixth straight year, Texas recorded a statewide increase in small land sales volume, with sales increasing 5.9% annually to 8,036 tracts sold. The average price per acre grew 5.13% year-over-year to $5,804 an acre. For the second year in a row, total dollar volume topped $1 billion for a total of $1,146,758,167.

Charles Gilliland, Ph.D., economist with the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, commented, “Statewide, smaller properties are growing in popularity with many being purchased as an expansion of a larger property, especially in sub-markets right outside of the large metro areas. With housing prices increasing statewide, there is demand for more subdivision developments, and, thus, more tracts are being purchased for pre-development.”

The report also revealed the average tract size for small land sales in Texas decreased 8.3% to 33 acres. The Panhandle and South Plains, and the Gulf Coast-Brazos Bottom were the only regions that experienced increases in average tract size, growing 29% and 5.5%, respectively.

Bates concluded, “The Texas small land sales market remains a competitive sector of Texas real estate. More and more investors are choosing Texas to make small land purchases due to our friendly business environment, booming economy and wealth of land opportunities. We expect investments in small land for subdivisions or mixed developments will continue, spurring more economic growth across the state as well as attracting more investors.”

Olympusat Restored Classic Screened at Salon Mexico: The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, July 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Olympusat, Inc., the TV and media industry leader specializing in Spanish-language TV networks is pleased to announce that one of its digitally remastered classic Mexican films, Víctimas del pecado (Victims of Sin), will be screened on Tuesday July 02 as part of Salon Mexico: The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema program presented by the British Film Institute.

Masterfully directed by Emilio Fernández, who won the 1946 Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix award for Maria Candelaria, and flawlessly photographed like a classic film noir by Gabriel Figueroa, Víctimas del pecado (1951) is a sparkling example of the rumberas genre of films popular at the time—typically set in a cabaret and featuring Afro-Caribbean music. Ninón Sevilla delivers a kinetic performance as Violeta, a rhumba dancer at a red-light district nightclub in Mexico City who finds an infant in a garbage can and decides to raise him as her own.  But when club owner Rodolfo (Rodolfo Acosta) learns about the child, a clash between him, Violeta and her lover Santiago (Tito Junco) ensues, ultimately ending in tragedy for all three.

Salon Mexico: The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema pays homage to the three and a half decades of prolific film production by what many consider to be the epicenter of Latin American cinema between 1933 and 1964. It was during this time that the Mexican industry gained international recognition based on the quality of its cinematic offering as well as the speed at which it could deliver reels of film to theater. In fact, it was not unheard of the Mexican studio system to produce over 100 films per year during the 1950s employing a sophisticated system of studios, talented directors and actors.

Sadly, many of these cultural gemstones are rapidly being lost to the ravages of time. Celluloid, when not properly stored, deteriorates due to environmental conditions and will rust, fade and ultimately disintegrate.  Thankfully, Olympusat is fighting to preserve these historical works as quickly as possible by painstakingly restoring them frame by frame to their original splendor. Olympusat has over fifty professionals dedicated to fixing and preserving the catalog of classic Mexican cinema. To date, the company has restored and digitally transferred over 300 films for posterity to enjoy.

“I feel we are restoring history, and by replenishing history through these films, we contribute to the preservation of culture for new generations,” said Tom Mohler, founder and CEO of Olympusat. Transferring films from the celluloid to the digital format allows for aesthetic improvements and diligent correction of discoloration and fading of each frame, he added.

Other films featured at Salon Mexico: The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema include:

Salón Mexico (1949), Maclovia (1948), Enamorada (1946), Macario (1960), En la palma de tu mano (1951) and La otra (1946), Distinto Amanecer (1943), Crepúsculo (1945), La Mujer del Puerto (1934), Dos Monjes (1934) and Aventurera (1950).

Salon Mexico: The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema is made possible by BFI with the support of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), the Cineteca Nacional, UNAM Film Library, the Televisa Foundation and the Mexico Embassy in the United Kingdom.

Víctimas del pecado and other digitally remastered movies from the Golden age of Mexican and Hispanic Cinema, can be viewed on Ultra Clásico, which features iconic classics and award-winning movies starting from the 1930s fully restored to their original glory in HD.

Ultra Clásico is owned and operated by Olympusat, Inc., and it’s currently available on Charter Spectrum, Hotwire Communications, Fios by Verizon, Liberty and VEMOX.
