Kia America Debuts in US.

IRVINE, Calif., May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Following the January global reveal of Kia’s dynamic new logo and brand relaunch, Kia Motors America is using the North American debut of its transformative electric vehicle, the EV6, to officially adopt the global Kia Plan S strategy and change its corporate name to Kia America. The new name is the most visible component of a complete brand transformation and follows Kia Motors Corporation’s recent change of name to Kia Corporation.

Plan S, or Plan Shift, is Kia’s ambitious $25 billion transformative strategy.  Plan S includes sustainable mobility, delivery vehicles and personal transport solutions through Kia’s PBV platform as well as developing Kia’s Mobility as a Service strategy. Plan S will also see the launch of 11 EVs on a global basis by 2026. The first advanced-platform EV as part of Plan S will be the EV6, set to go on sale in U.S. in early 2022.

“This is an important and inspiring time in Kia’s history,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia America and Kia North America. “On a global scale, our brand is sharpening its identity, and defining a sustainable, purposeful strategy within existing, new and to-be -developed vehicle segments as well as larger efforts we are now ready to pursue. Today’s announcement signals that Kia in the US is fully aligned with Kia Corporation’s global strategy and primed for continued success.”

The new logo resembles a handwritten signature and will continue to roll out on all 2022 vehicles.  The design of the new logo is simple but dramatically effective: the rising movement of the two diagonal strokes are accentuated by beveled ends and reveals an unexpected subtext, “Ki,” or “to rise.” Narrow connections between the characters emphasize the power and energy of movement, and the wide proportions of the three vertical pillars reinforce stability and provide a confident and balanced appearance.

The new strategy announcement comes as Kia celebrate two consecutive best-ever US sales months in March and April, 2021.

Kia America forms part of Kia North America, which includes Kia America’s headquarters in Irvine, CA and Kia’s manufacturing facility in West Point, GA. Kia North America also includes the brand’s presence in Canada and Mexico, including the manufacturing facility in Nuevo León, Mexico. Kia Corporation operates the Kia Design Center America in Irvine, CA and R&D facilities across the U.S.

National Kidney Foundation Urges Kidney Patients to Continue Masking, Social Distancing

Foundation urges CDC to issue guidelines for immune compromised patients and study need for booster vaccines

NEW YORK, May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In light of new CDC masking guidance issued last week indicating that people who are fully vaccinated can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, the National Kidney Foundation urges patients with advanced kidney disease, including transplant and dialysis patients and patients requiring immunosuppression for treatment of kidney disease, to continue masking and practice social distancing, even if they are fully vaccinated.  A new study published in the medical journal JAMA indicates that people with solid organ transplants, like kidney transplants, and others who are immune compromised, such as dialysis patients, may not receive the same level of antibody immunity from the COVID-19 vaccine as other people. The new study indicated that 46% of solid organ transplant patients had no antibody immunity from the vaccine but other patients did have some immunity. The study did not evaluate cell-mediated immunity which is also important for vaccine protection.

NKF Logo

“As more of the nation starts to forego mask wearing in public places, people who are immune compromised, such as transplant and dialysis patients, must continue to protect themselves even after vaccination,” said Joseph Vassalotti, MD, Chief Medical Officer, National Kidney Foundation. “While this small and preliminary study indicates that the COVID-19 vaccine appears to be less effective for transplant patients or others who are immune compromised, half of the participants did receive some protection from the vaccine. Kidney patients and members of their households should still get vaccinated. We are still learning about how well vaccines protect kidney patients, so some extra caution during this time is important.”

In a letter sent today to the CDC, NKF urged that the agency develop new guidelines for immune compromised patients on masking and social distancing even if they are vaccinated. In addition, NKF is urging the CDC to urgently conduct research on the effectiveness of the vaccine in immune compromised patients and to conduct studies to determine if a booster shot may be required to offer more protection from COVID-19.

“Many vaccines do not offer the same protection to immune compromised patients as the general public. Given COVID-19 can be deadly, it’s important that kidney patients get the vaccine while still continuing to protect ourselves until further studies on vaccine efficacy are conducted,” said Kevin Longino, CEO, National Kidney Foundation and a kidney transplant patient. “The vaccine may not be as effective in people like us, but it may still help reduce the severity of the virus including hospitalizations and death.”

Immune compromised patients who become infected with COVID-19 should seek treatment with antibody therapy right away and not wait for symptoms to develop.

“If kidney patients become infected with COVID-19 it’s critical to speak with their doctor to  start antibody therapy right away,” added Dr. Vassalotti. “While we’re all ready to get back to normal, until the country has herd or population immunity, patients with advanced kidney disease including transplant and dialysis patients or patients requiring immunosuppression for treatment of their kidney disease should continue masking and social distancing even if you’re fully vaccinated.”

Kidney Disease Facts
In the United States, 37 million adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease—and approximately 90 percent don’t know they have it.  1 in 3 adults in the U.S. are at risk for chronic kidney disease.  Risk factors for kidney disease include: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and family history. People of Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian American, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander descent are at increased risk for developing the disease. Blacks or African Americans are almost 4 times more likely than White Americans to have kidney failure.  Hispanics are 1.3 times more likely than non-Hispanics to have kidney failure.

Approximately 750,000 Americans have irreversible kidney failure and need dialysis or a kidney transplant to survive. More than 500,000 of these patients receive dialysis at least three times per week to replace kidney function. Nearly 100,000 Americans are on the waitlist for a kidney transplant right now.  Depending on where a patient lives, the average wait time for a kidney transplant can be upwards of three to seven years.

SBS Unveils Virtual 2021 Hispanic Media Upfront: It Happens Here

Spanish Broadcasting System Inc. logo.

MIAMI, May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Spanish Broadcasting SystemInc. (SBS) (OTCQX: SBSAA), the leading Hispanic-owned and minority certified multimedia and entertainment company in the U.S., unveiled today its virtual 2021 upfront: It Happens Here. Through a series of curated videos, SBS executives discuss how the company’s culturally relevant audio, digital, video and live music experiences have successfully engaged U.S. Hispanics for over four decades while also serving as a springboard for the careers of many popular Latin music artists and celebrities.

Spanish Broadcasting System Inc. logo.

Raúl Alarcon, Chairman of SBS, stated, “Now more than ever, it’s imperative for brands to have a Hispanic media marketing strategy to grow their business. We are leaders in developing multi-platform, culturally relevant content and experiences that connect our audience to their Latino roots and celebrate their heritage. If brands want to make an authentic connection with our community, the message is loud and clear: As far as Latino culture and entertainment is concerned, it happens here at Spanish Broadcasting System.”

The company’s It Happens Here virtual upfront will provide viewers a deeper understanding of the power, reach, distribution and content of Spanish Broadcasting System and it’s multimedia portfolio as well as upcoming ’21-22 opportunities for brand integrations through innovative, scalable cross-platform solutions to reach the diverse Latino market.

“As we recover and rebuild from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we also wanted to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the Latino community,” said Albert Rodriguez, COO of Spanish Broadcasting System. “Empowering, entertaining and uplifting the Latino community is at the core of everything we do and we want the world to know that we have the leadership, the team, content and the platform that effectively reaches and culturally engages over 25 million Latinos on a weekly basis.”

“We are proud to be the only Hispanic-owned and operated multimedia company as certified by the National Minority Supplier Development Council, and to be serving the largest minority group in the nation, which represents 18% of the U.S. population,” touted Elisa Torres, EVP of AIRE Radio Networks and SBS National Sales. “We’re the tastemakers and masterminds behind all of the content and programming that addresses Latino cultural nuances, because we are the audience. If brands are looking to reach Hispanics effectively and authentically, we want them to know that “It Happens Here at SBS.”

The concept of “It Happens Here” derived from the fact that SBS has been the home of many ‘first’ experiences for Latin artists, celebrities and listeners alike. The first time Jennifer Lopez performed live in her home state, New York, was at a Mega concert at Madison Square Garden. SBS was one of the first stations to play J Balvin and Ozuna’s music, and the first time Luis Fonsi performed his hit Diamond status single, “Despacito,” live was at the SBS upfront presentation in 2019 – the same upfront where Karol G, who is now recognized as one of the biggest female names in reggaeton music, also performed.  Listeners often call in to SBS local stations to share that their first live Latin music concert was an SBS Entertainment event or the first time they heard their favorite artists was on their favorite SBS audio station.

“From megastars like Julio Iglesias, Vicente Fernandez, Camilo Sesto, Jose Luis Rodriguez, to the superstars of today like J. Balvin, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Marc Anthony and Ozuna, to the as yet undiscovered artists of tomorrow, we’re also extremely proud to be the launching platform for some of the biggest artists in Latin music, a genre defined as a global sound,” continued Alarcón.

SBS 2021-22 virtual upfront “It Happens Here” can be viewed exclusively at www.ItHappensHereatSBS.com.

Acura Scores Fourth Consecutive Victory at Mid-Ohio

0
Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque won today's Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, Acura's fourth consecutive win in IMSA sports car competition at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, a streak that began in 2018.

LEXINGTON, Ohio, May 16, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Acura continued its winning streak Sunday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, as Wayne Taylor Racing’s Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor scored the fourth consecutive win for the Acura ARX-05 prototype in the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, Presented by the TLX Type S.

Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque won today's Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, Acura's fourth consecutive win in IMSA sports car competition at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, a streak that began in 2018.

The stage was set for a thrilling finish when race officials called for a full-course caution with just over an hour remaining in the two-hour, 40-minute contest, following a multi-car GT class incident that left one car stalled just off the Mid-Ohio circuit. As racing prepared to resume with 45 minutes remaining, the six leading prototypes made what they hoped would be a final stop for fuel and tires, all at the very limit of their fuel range.

When the green flag waved for the final time, it was the #31 Cadillac of Felipe Nasr in the lead, but the second-running Taylor made a decisive pass for the lead in his Acura, and would hold off Nasr for the rest of the way, taking the win by a margin of 1.7 seconds.

The similar Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05 of Olivier Pla and Dane Cameron ran as high as second at the mid-point of today’s race, but ultimately was one of several prototypes having to make a late stop for a “splash” of fuel, finishing fifth.

In the production-based GTD category, Jeff Kingsley and two-time defending class champion Mario Farnbacher produced a fifth-place finish in the first IMSA appearance for their Compass Racing team as an Acura team.  Also making their 2021 IMSA debut the Gradient Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo finished eighth in the hands of Marc Miller and Till Bechtolscheimer; while John Potter and Andy Lally combined to finish ninth in their Magnus with Archangel NSX.

Quotes
Ricky Taylor (#10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05) race winner, second win of 2021; fourth consecutive win for Acura at Mid-Ohio: “For Acura first of all, four in a row here at Mid-Ohio is just fantastic. Everybody’s here from Acura today, it’s great to keep the streak going for them.  The fuel economy of this Acura was just outstanding today, and all credit to the team, really.  In the closing laps, I was only pushing as hard as they told me I could.  They had all the [fuel] numbers in their heads, and I was just trusting them.  Filipe gave me the car in awesome condition and a good position [following his stints behind the wheel], and that played a big role as well.  Happy we keep our [championship] points lead, and can’t wait to go on to the next one.”

Filipe Albuquerque (#10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05) race winner, second win of 2021: “Unbelievable race, this is all about IMSA. It was an amazing show for everyone. Two hours and 40 minutes of craziness. I fought hard during my stint and then it continued like this until the very last corner. It was an amazing strategy with the fuel, because everyone was tight. We were saying ‘Ricky you need to save fuel and hold position.’ We were asking everything from him, and he pulled it off. Thank you so much to everyone at the Konica Minolta and Acura. We’re trying new things with the limited experience we have with the car, and we’re pulling it off. It’s unbelievable. We can see how tough the championship will be because I was fighting with guys who ended up last and we won the race. That shows how much [things can change] during the race. It feels even better to be winning.”

Mario Farnbacher (#76 Compass Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo) finished fifth in GTD: “First of all, Jeff [Kingsley, starting driver] made a great start in what was a very difficult weekend for him, as he really had no previous experience with the NSX. So for him, it was jumping into the deep end of a new environment.  But he improved all weekend and was a big part of the good result we achieved today.  When I got in the car, right away it was pretty good.  We lost a bit of paste in the second half of our stints, and that’s something we need to continue to work to make better.

Jon Ikeda (Acura Brand Officer) on today’s fourth consecutive win for Acura at Mid-Ohio: “Amazing.  Amazing day, and an amazing race. This is why we’re racing sports cars in IMSA, it’s the most incredible racing I’ve ever seen.  This is so good for Acura, and everyone from HPD [Honda Performance Development]. I can’t say enough about Wayne Taylor Racing, Filipe [Albuquerque] and especially Ricky [Taylor].  And the fact that I got to watch all of it with [race grand marshal] Helio Castroneves in the house, it was just an incredible race all round.”
