NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Leading entertainment and lifestyle retailer, HSN, has teamed up with award-winning entrepreneur and creator of Dreamers Ventures, Liliana “Lili” Gil Valletta, to launch Project American Dreams.

Award-winning entrepreneur and creator of Dreamers Ventures, Lili Gil Valletta and "TV's Billion Dollar Man", Bob Circosta.

Expanding on HSN’s existing American Dreams initiative – a program designed to cultivate entrepreneurs and introduce innovative new products to the marketplace – Project American Dreams will be a business competition to discover, mentor and fast-track the launch of product innovations created by Latino entrepreneurs on HSN.

Kicking off during Hispanic Heritage Month, prospective entrepreneurs can submit their products online for review via projectamericandreams.com from September 30 to December 9, 2016. Up to twenty products will be selected as semifinalists for judges to review at the HSN studios, and up to five winners will be selected to introduce their brand live -reaching approximately 94 million households in the spring of 2017.

“HSN has a rich history of supporting entrepreneurs and introducing their products to the marketplace,” said Bill Brand, President, HSN. “Building on the success of our existing American Dreams series, we are looking forward to extending our reach, while leveraging Dreamers Ventures’ incredible network to discover innovative new products through Project American Dreams.”

As an immigrant, entrepreneur and the first Hispanic partner to HSN’s American Dreams initiative, Gil Valletta was inspired by the need to create a business competition and platform that will help fill the gaps in access, opportunity and wealth many Hispanic entrepreneurs face.

“While Latinos represent 17% of the population and are starting more new businesses than the general population, they receive less access to opportunities and get less than 1% of all venture capital and angel funding,” said Lili Gil Valletta, co-founder of Dreamers Ventures. “This is why I assembled an alliance of leading experts, investors and mentors to fill the gap in access and opportunity for Latino entrepreneurs.” This network of experts will provide personalized coaching and resources to the selected finalists in preparation for their national launch. Various HSN celebrity partners will also provide their personal business tips to the contestants throughout the competition.

This one-of-a-kind alliance includes best-selling author and “TV’s Billion Dollar Man” Bob Circosta, a pioneer of the multi-billion dollar live television shopping industry; and Latino business organizations like Access Latina- a non-profit that offers capital resources, access to networks and mentoring for Latinas. In addition to personalized coaching and the chance to gain mass-market distribution on HSN, qualified winners will receive a scholarship to attend the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurs Leaders Program, where Gil Valletta serves as a business mentor.

As a national leader in providing innovative programs and financial services to Hispanics, U.S. Bank supports Project American Dreams as a partner to educate, empower and offer access to capital for Hispanic business owners.

“Entrepreneurs bring a passion and spirit to their work that has driven our economy for generations,” said Kate Quinn, executive vice president, and chief strategy and reputation officer at U.S. Bank. “U.S. Bank is pleased to embrace that spirit by supporting new Hispanic businesses in partnership with HSN and Project American Dreams. We look forward to helping these entrepreneurs turn their dreams into new possibilities for future business.”

The competition was first publicly announced during the 2016 Prospanica Conference & Career Expo in Houston, Texas, where over 2,500 Hispanic professionals from around the country gathered for leadership development and career advancement. “We are honored to have been chosen as Project American Dreams’ announcement platform,” commented Thomas Savino, CEO of Prospanica. “Partnering with this initiative is a win on all fronts as our organization works to empower Hispanic professionals achieve their full economic potential.”

Inventors can submit their product now through December 9th, 2016 by visiting ProjectAmericanDreams.com and following the submission instructions.

Harnessing The “Power of AND” Leads To Successful Total Market Approaches

0

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — According to AHAA: The Voice of Hispanic Marketing, many marketers are misapplying Total Market strategies resulting in devastating effects in multicultural market share. An industry-wide initiative, led by AHAA in collaboration with the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and other multi-cultural experts, clarified that reaching today’s increasingly diverse new mainstream lies in the “Power of AND” – a Total Market approach requiring both a culturally nuanced mainstream campaign AND integrated, yet relevant, segment campaigns.

“True Total Market success comes from both a new mainstream market lens AND a segment lens,” said Eric Reynolds, CMO of Clorox. “There are no short cuts to getting great work that moves the sales needle.”

According to AHAA Chair Linda Lane Gonzalez, “Inclusive campaigns are merely the basic minimum brands can do to reflect the new mainstream but it falls short of addressing the total opportunity. Without dedicated segment approaches working in synergy with mainstream work, business growth falls flat.”

To help clear the confusion, the trade groups have developed three guiding principles for proper implementation of Total Market:

  1. Total Market efforts need to be comprised of a diverse American Mainstream PLUS demographic, cultural and language segments.
  2. Total Market insights need to be embedded throughout the marketing process.
  3. Reaching the New Mainstream requires both a culturally nuanced mainstream campaign AND integrated yet relevant segment campaigns.

“If you are only doing mainstream advertising, and calling it Total Market, you are missing out on significant market share volume opportunities,” said Michael Lacorazza, EVP of Integrated Marketing at Wells Fargo. “You have to determine the importance of each segment for every campaign up front, budget accordingly, and provide all agencies the time to collaborate and find the best and most meaningful solutions.”

AHAA also put together a short list of what is NOT a total market approach.

  • It’s not a general market campaign with translations.
  • It’s not diversity by means of inclusive casting.
  • It’s not a strategy to lower advertising costs.
  • It’s not handing off segment responsibility to agencies lacking deep cultural expertise.

On Monday, October 10, as part of the ANA Multicultural & Diversity Summit, AHAA will bring together both Reynolds and Lacorazza to candidly discuss how Clorox and Wells Fargo have brought the “Power of AND” to life with successful campaigns that do not fall for the over-simplicity of an inclusive campaign, but rather pursue effectiveness through the power of culturally nuanced mainstream campaigns and integrated, yet relevant, segment campaigns.

VERONA, Va., Oct. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — A recent Hoy Los Angeles (Today Los Angeles) article highlighted how attorneys from Nexus Caridades, one of America’s leading pro-bono immigration legal services, helped prevent the deportation of an immigrant mother and her children. As the article states, Tomasa Cristina Centeno and her children made a difficult journey to the United States from their native El Salvador where they feared for their lives as victims of gang-related violence and extortion.

Shortly upon crossing the border, Ms. Centeno and her children were placed in deportation proceedings. However, thanks to the pro-bono legal representation by Nexus Caridades attorneys, Ms. Centeno and her children were afforded prosecutorial discretion, allowing them to live in the United States.

Mike Donovan, CEO of Nexus Services, Inc., the parent company of Libre by Nexus and sponsor of Nexus Caridades, issued the following statement:

“We are proud of the fine work by our team of attorneys who worked tirelessly to keep Ms. Centeno and her family in the United States. Ms. Centeno is an incredibly hard-working, law-abiding citizen who, like so many immigrants, came to our country seeking opportunities and a safe environment to raise her children. Everyday, our attorneys work on a pro-bono basis to deliver excellent legal representation to thousands of immigrants and their families.

“Whether we are fighting discrimination against immigrants or reuniting families through our Libre by Nexus program, the Nexus family of companies is always committed to advancing and protecting the rights of immigrants in the United States.

“Ms. Centeno’s story is also a reminder of our country’s need for comprehensive immigration reform. That is why Nexus is proud to employ a team of policy advocates that dedicate over 7,000 hours a year toward fixing our country’s broken immigration system.”

Texas Association of REALTORS® installs officers, outlines priorities for 2017

0

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Texas Association of REALTORS® (TAR) installed its 2017 officers last month during the Texas REALTORS® Conference in Galveston. The incoming officers, including Chairman Vicki Fullerton of The Woodlands, Chairman-Elect Kaki Lybbert of Denton, Secretary/Treasurer Tray Bates of Corpus Christi and Immediate Past Chairman Leslie Rouda Smith of Dallas, have more than a century of combined leadership experience within the Texas real estate industry and their local communities.

“The demand for Texas real estate is strong and enduring, and it’s an incredibly exciting time to work in our industry,” said incoming Chairman Fullerton. “Texas’ diverse economy continues to be a magnet for relocating families and job growth, while the Texas real estate industry is a key driver in job growth across the state.”

With well over 100,000 Texas REALTORS® across the state, TAR has experienced record membership growth in 2016 and has continued to advocate for Texas property owners after the passage of statewide Proposition 1 last fall, which permanently banned real estate transfer taxes. The association is actively educating private-property owners across the state on hidden property taxes—increases in property taxes due to skyrocketing property appraisals even when tax rates are lowered or remain unchanged.

Fullerton continued, “TAR remains on the front lines of ensuring Texas remains a great place to live, work and do business. In the upcoming legislative session, you can count on Texas REALTORS® to advocate for policies that protect the rights of private-property owners and strengthen our economy.”

Incoming Chairman Vicki Fullerton is a broker with RE/MAX in The Woodlands & Spring. Fullerton is a committed leader who brings more than 38 years of real estate experience to her role. She is Immediate Past chair of the Realtor Party Trustees for Campaign Services and serves as the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) federal political coordinator to U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady, chairman of the ways and means committee. Vicki is the 2014 state representative on the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Major Investor Council. In 2011, she chaired the NAR Issues Mobilization Committee. Fullerton served as regional vice president on the TAR Executive Board from 2004 to 2013 and was a TREPAC trustee from 2010 to 2014. She served as chairman for the Montgomery County Association of REALTORS® in 1992, president of the Lone Star CRS chapter in 1999, and chairman of the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR) in 2009. She was recognized by HAR as REALTOR® of the Year in 2006.

Kaki Lybbert of Century 21 Judge Fite in Denton is the incoming Chairman-Elect for TAR as well as chairman of the Major Investor Council for NAR. The youngest daughter of a family that was steeped in the construction business, she obtained her real estate license in 1995 and has been an associate of Century 21 since 1998. She has consistently been one of the top producers of her company. Lybbert gives her time and resources to her profession and her community, serving on many committees and boards throughout Denton/Wise County. She has served in many roles throughout the REALTOR® organization, including chairman of TREPAC in 2012 and on the 2016 RPAC Fundraising Forum for NAR.

Incoming Secretary/Treasurer Tray Bates is the president and broker/owner of Bates Commercial LLC. A third-generation commercial real estate broker, Bates has provided real estate services throughout Texas since 1993. Recognized for his outstanding service in the real estate industry, Bates was named REALTOR® of the Year by the Corpus Christi Association of REALTORS® (CCAR) in 2009 and served as chairman of CCAR in 2011. A founding member of the South Texas Commercial Association, Bates served as president in 2012 and 2015. He has been a member of the TAR Board of Directors since 2009 and is a current member of the NAR Commercial Committee.

Immediate Past Chairman Leslie Rouda Smith is a broker with Dallas-based Dave Perry-Miller & Associates and will be the 2017 regional vice president for NAR, representing Texas and Louisiana. GIMLI, Manitoba, Oct. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Crown Royal is adding a delicious offering to its family of whiskies with the introduction of Crown Royal Vanilla Flavored Whisky, a blend of hand selected Crown Royal whiskies infused with the rich flavor of Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla. The result is a unique whisky bursting with the flavor of vanilla and the distinctive smoothness of Crown Royal.

Crown Royal is adding a delicious offering to its family of whiskies with the introduction of Crown Royal Vanilla Flavored Whisky, a blend of hand selected Crown Royal whiskies infused with the rich flavor of Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla.

A drink for all seasons, Crown Royal Vanilla can be enjoyed on the rocks, as a chilled shot, mixed with a variety of sodas for a Vanilla-forward take on hard sodas or as the key ingredient in unique twists on classic cocktails like the Vanilla Old Fashioned or Vanilla Hot Toddy.

Crown Royal Vanilla Flavored Whisky begins with a nose of rich vanilla bean with delicate hints of oak. The taste opens with a delicious, creamy vanilla flavor followed by a smooth, light whisky finish. The mouthfeel is viscous and warm, and the aftertaste is reminiscent of crème brulee.

“Vanilla is such a classic flavor that people around the world crave,” said Jim Ruane, Crown Royal Brand Director. “Infusing our Crown Royal whiskies with the flavor of Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla allows us to highlight the vanilla notes found in many whiskies, including Crown Royal Deluxe, and share a delicious new offering with consumers.”

OSHAB Launches Paperless Online Appeal System, OASIS

0

SACRAMENTO, California, Oct. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board (OSHAB) has launched an online system that makes it easier for employers to file appeals of Cal/OSHA citations. The new OSHAB Appeals Scheduling and Information System (OASIS) allows employers to file appeal documents electronically, receive instant confirmation of a successful submission and track the status of their appeal.

“OASIS brings employers the added convenience of online filing of appeals without the paper and mail process of the past,” said OSHAB Chairperson Art Carter. “The new system makes the appeals process easier to navigate and allows filers to track their appeals electronically.”

OASIS users will create an account in the system’s secure environment before filling out and submitting required forms and uploading supporting documents as part of an appeal package. Filers can save their work in progress and complete it at their convenience.

“DIR is pleased to implement the OSHAB system—it is part of an overall department strategy to be efficient and effective,” said DIR Director Christine Baker. OSHAB is one of the boards within DIR.

OASIS notifies an employer if their appeal is missing any information before submission. Once the appeal is filed, the employer receives details about next steps in the process, updates on their case, and can view the OSHAB calendar to see when hearing dates are scheduled.

More information on OASIS is posted on the OSHAB website, including FAQs and tips. Assistance is available by contacting the Appeals Board by phone at (916) 274-5751 or toll free at (877) 252-1987 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

OSHAB is a three-member judicial body appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate which handles appeals from private and public-sector employers regarding citations issued by Cal/OSHA for alleged violation of workplace safety and health laws and regulations. The mission of the Appeals Board is to fairly, timely and efficiently resolve appeals and to provide clear, consistent guidance to the public, thereby promoting workplace safety and health.

Members of the press may contact Erika Monterroza or Peter Melton at (510) 286-1161, and are encouraged to subscribe to get email alerts on DIR’s press releases or other departmental updates.
